Oz The Mentalist pulls a trick on Steph and Ayesha Curry backstage at the ESPY’s
I don’t like to destroy the magic but I’ve done this trick and it’s actually extremely easy/obvious you just need an invisible assistant
I’m an idiot! This whole time I was sure it was magnets.
Magnets? How do they work?
Theyre mined from the depths of the earth, so they have little pieces of gravity inside
This is my new favorite description of magnets
Is that from a scientist? Because those mfers lying and getting me pissed
From a well known brologist.
Typo. He meant maggots.
Maggots?! How do THEY work?!!
Surprisingly well
Typo. He meant mammoths.
Whoop whoop
No, it’s mirrors.
How Can Mirrors Be Real
Windows into an alternate dimension…
#Sue Storm’s days are numbered!! Her racket couldn’t last forever
John Cena
This is awesome, you just explained the trick without explaining the trick 😂
You had me in the first half
You weren’t suppose to expose the secret but that is the best way. I did this all the time but I lost misplaced my assistant a while back.
“Go have some fun”
🦶🦶
Ayesha has 2 right feet?
She must be my other half, cause I have 2 left feet.
Go to her, King
Steph take a seat over there.
Curry about to really enjoy the chair now
He gets to feel it AND watch!
People were more angry about Pablo Torre’s video about this guy than they were about the episodes about the Clippers or trans athletes
People also get mad when you tell them wrestling is scripted.
I think the more appropriate analogy would be if the WWE was selling books about how to defend yourself in a street fight using Stone Cold Stunners.
That would actually be extremely effective.
Also just imagine someone tries to rob you and you drop a people’s elbow on them
the problem with the people elbow is they need to be laid out before you drop it on them
You need to give them the Rock Bottom, then you People’s elbow them
You also need something to bounce off so you can skip over guys head then bounce back then drop the elbow. Dont forget that exaggeration of the leg kick
Throw in a frog splash off some trash container just in case
He rock bottomed him? That’s a finisher
Robber: Give me the loot
Me: 🤨…🖕🏿🖕🏿🦵🏿
Random passerby: 🤠STUNNER‼️ STUNNEEERRR‼️
bro, everyone know the move you should use on the street is the curb stomp
Brother, even wrestling fans know it’s scripted that’s not the point. I don’t watch Marvel movies and then stare out my window to see if Spiderman is going to sling across my neighborhood.
Speak for yourself, Mystique about to come any moment
I go to my local sauna spa once a week to see if black widow is there
To hold meetings?
Is there a friendly neighborhood Gravedigger?
At a certain point the only point of doing that is to rain on other people’s parades. Why go out your way trying to ruin other people’s hobbies and interest?
I think wrestling is super boring and uninteresting because it’s fake but I just keep it to myself because there’s no benefit to me volunteering that information to people who actually enjoy it.
The spectacle is real. Enjoy the showmanship and tricks, just don’t get invested in the actual winners/losers.
You can be invested in the winners and the losers too. It’s theater. Most stories have a protagonist and antagonist
Exactly. People will say this then spend their entire Saturday on Reddit arguing about the philosophies of Darth Vader and Thanos
Oh I get that. I’m just saying that if you’re feeling disinterested because it is fake, then just don’t worry about the winners/losers thing. Just enjoy the spectacle and amazing athleticism of the performers.
Aisha Curry is just straight up fire
If you really think about it it’s similar to an action movie. You know people aren’t really being hit and being shot in an action film and way more people enjoy those than wrestling. No one is saying “I don’t understand how you can enjoy watching these movies, they aren’t real”.
Yes. And I’ll preface by saying I’m a lifelong wrestling fan, so I’m biased.
But there are some major differences in your comparisons, which is why I think pro wrestling is so great.
It’s live and in front of an audience. So there’s no post-production, editing, stunt doubles, CGI, and so on. A lot of the time, most of the matches aren’t fully scripted either. They have certain things planned ahead of time, and fill in the rest with basically improv. Pro wrestlers have to basically be a weird mix of combat athletes, gymnasts, film actors, stage actors, stunt men, comedians, and so on.
And also, while normally in an action movie nobody is actually being hit at all, that’s not really true for pro wrestling. It’s fake, the opponents are helping each other, and the finish is predetermined. But it’s not completely fake in that it doesn’t hurt or all punches are completely pulled. A lot of the strikes are open-handed slaps that are real. Closed fist punches and kicks sometimes are completely faked if they’re to the head, but often it’s faked by being a real kick to the shoulder and pretending it’s the head, or being struck with a shin and pretending it was a knee. And the slams are fake in that the one being slammed is helping the person slamming lift them up, but they’re actually being slammed. And the ring is really just wood planks covered in canvas, so it’s not like a trampoline or something. If someone is hit with a chair, they’re just actually being hit with a chair. If someone bleeds during a match, it’s usually because they purposely cut themselves in the forehead with a razor blade because they thought bleeding would add to the story of the match. So in a sense, it’s a lot more “real” than people who aren’t fans at all would imagine.
It’s just a really weird and unique form of entertainment that has a niche, sometimes incredibly toxic, but also really passionate fanbase.
His case is different, and that makes mentalists sort of looked down at in the magic community. He doesn’t do a trick telling you the trick is there but not how he did it. He’s making you think he has special skills, that are not paranormal, that he learnt over time and hard work.
It’s because he’s a magician who pretends to be a Mentalist, therefore he’s a dishonest magician and breaks some of the “rules” of magicians
Is there a professional “mentalist” degree I’m unaware of? You’re mad he’s pretending to be something fake while actually being something else fake
no people are mad he’s a fraud and selling misleading books
it’s an Masters in Mentalism of the Arts degree. Lot of good schools out there for it but most of the online degree in it are just pure money grabs.
Right they’re performers just like magicians
But he’s a performer who is also selling a book claiming people can actually get his magical powers for real.
That’s kinda on the buyers ngl
Huh?
You don’t believe con men ever do anything wrong because their victims are stupid?
I’m not mad, I think he’s entertaining.
I think you missed the point of the episode. No one cares about magicians not being real.
It’s a superiority/ego thing. Some people just feel real good about themselves by letting people know how beneath them certain hobbies/activities/lifestyles are. I don’t get it, but you’ll certainly find quite a few of them in this subreddit.
No they don’t, and no it isn’t. Fuck you. /s
What the fuck did you say?!
THE SACRIFICE IS REAL THEY PUT THEIR BODIES ON THE LIIIIIIINEEEEE
THE BIZNESS!
Hold up
It would be like if someone posted a wrestling clip and the top comment was about how Pablo Torre exposed that it wasn’t real
Why would Pablo need to expose that when it’s a known fact?
Expose something suggests an intent to hide that fact… which makes sense when he’s trying to sell a shit book on the back of his fake skills.
About Steph curry?
The trick works like this: Oz uses invisible string (very thin string) to touch Ayesha on her nose. He does it while he has an excuse to be around Ayesha’s face like saying “ok close your eyes” with his hands spread like 🙌 with the string in between and grazes her nose. That’s the impressive part. Oz has amazing sleight of hand. This part isn’t shown on camera. Oz’s videos are highly edited and stitched together. Notice it’s not all one continuous shot. Then 30 seconds later, he touches Steph’s nose and asks Ayesha what she felt. In Ayesha’s mind, she’s thinking what she felt 30 seconds ago but to the audience it looks like it’s immediate. Then he does the same thing with the chin.
Correct. For all the people stating answers you have it. Although I disagree Oz has amazing sleight of hand.
The sleights he does are not complex or difficult.
That would be a guy like Richard Turner.
Roy Donk, Thaddeus Finx, Mookie Kramer & Tiny Boop Squigg Shorterly - he was a frequent guest on the Colgate Comedy Hour.
I remember Oz doing the tutorial videos for different tricks on penguin magic. His slight of hand and ability with a deck of cards IS world class.
For those who don’t know, Richard Turner is blind and is the guy you least want to find across a card table from you.
Pablo already exposed this fraud
Exposed what lol, everyone knows mentalism is just psychological tricks. Or did you actually believe in magic? It’s about entertainment.
It’s more that he’s turning it into a grift where he’s now selling self-improvement books on how to “hack” your mind.
That to me is what turns me off about this guy, obviously he’s a good magician but he’s drinking his own kool-aid
Well damn, now him performing at the white house dinner makes sense.
As soon as I saw him at the WH dinner, I wondered if he had a scam going. Then it was immediately confirmed when I looked him up. These people are so predictable.
He’s went from a good magician, to a con artist. He’s basically Uri Geller at this point
It’s a bit too on-the-nose for this guy and Dr. Oz to pick the stage name of a fictional power-hungry grifter like the Wizard of Oz and also be chummy with the current administration, isn’t it?
Idk man I feel like most of the fault lies in anyone buying those books.
Okay fair enough, but I don’t have much sympathy for suckers who buy that shit anyway. From what I’ve seen, Oz seems to make most of his coin from celebrity shows.
It’s not even that. The whole conceit of mentalism vs being a magician is that mentalism is a “skill” and that you can actually read people and influence behavior or w/e, rather than being mostly just magic tricks.
Oz takes it even further in that he sells his mentalism as skills he can teach people to use in their real lives like he’s a self-help guru or something.
If someone takes my phone unknowingly and sets up a fake Google search that pings his phone with my searches, is that psychological tricks?
Fuck no. You can tell which people commenting haven’t seen the way he performs some of his “tricks”.
Buddy did a whole ted talk about how he has broken down the human brain and understands it to a deeper level, then releases books on how you can do this and change your life like its a self help book.
I’m sorry to say this man, but I don’t have sympathy for people who get conned by painfully-obvious shit. TED talks were exposed as stupid long ago
Still a classic to this day: from CBC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZBKX-6Gz6A
I watched the video. While highly entertaining, if what you got out of it was that TED talks are stupid, then I’m afraid you’re the stupid one. All the presenter did was showcase how presenters can use body language and stage props to impact the audience in ways they might not be aware of. That has nothing to do with the contents of the speech. There you need critical reasoning to evaluate its merits and if it’s stupid or not…
I don’t think ALL Ted Talks are stupid, in fact I frequent rewatch Celeste Headlee’s one on communication. I just think the format is definitely geared towards infotainment and therefore privy to nonsense proclamations borne out of anecdotal experiences.
If you saw Pablo’s episode you’d know it’s not just psychological tricks. He literally asks the participants to do things behind the scenes to make him look like he’s performing “tricks”.
lol you fell for it too. It’s not “psychological tricks”, it’s just regular tricks. Same as any magician except magicians tell you it’s a trick
It’s not “physiologically tricks” that’s the whole point, it’s just magic tricks and gimmicks wrapped up as psychological tricks
Please actually read into and do research on things instead of just emotionally reacting. He’s using his “magic entertainment” to scam people with some shitty book. You can really see the fall in reading comprehension when looking at these comments, please just do the bare minimum and actually be knowledgeable of topics instead of just reflexively spouting your uninformed opinions
lol he tricked you too I guess.
They are psychological tricks, they are sleight of hand tricks or ones relying on physical trick items/technology. You give him too much credit.
I’m not sure if you meant to include a /s at the end, but it’s kinda hilarious that you’re getting upvoted when it is absolutely not psychological tricks. It’s literally just magic tricks - slight of hand, misdirection and camera cuts like any other magician. Nothing different. You got fooled lol.
Yea but he preps the trick - instead of manipulating live. He gives you two option backstage then onstage manipulates you into picking one. It’s not impressive at all and he uses iPhone apps to cheat. He’s a fraud bro
They’re not psychological tricks. That’s what was exposed.
100%
what an stupid take!! it’s just illusions, tricks, misdirection, etc, did that yet another dumb stupid idiotic youtuber thought he had mental powers!? That’s dumb af
Wait I watched that episode but I don’t think they explained this one?
No he didn’t, he brought on the guy who exposed this fraud. Give credit to the right people.
Lol he’s a magician
Fraud? What is he defrauding them of exactly?
Is there any fraud that Pablo hasn’t exposed?
The best magic tricks are the ones where you can see the disbelief on everyone’s face afterward. Steph looked genuinely impressed.
Can someone explain how he does this?
Is it really being a fraud if everyone knows there’s a gimmick to every trick?
I don’t know how he does it, and neither do these other commenters.
There’s like a four hour video out there on YouTube of a guy who exposes how all this does every single one of his tricks. So yes, I think a lot of people do know how he does it.
Care to share the link to the video bruv
https://youtu.be/FnwcU-XDyJ4
He is using string between his 2 hands (and cuts in the video posted in order to make it harder to tell). If you pay attention to his 2 hands at times, you can tell by their positioning.
It’s a rather easy and a common trick. Moreover, one of the reasons I often don’t like mentalism tricks, there’s some pre work vs what you see in the clip. There’s other stuff that happened beforehand.
I am guessing he has something that blows air at her face while he touches his, maybe?
Or it could be prompting based on the way he asks her what she feels.
This is really random but I just saw a crowd work comedian randomly call on a magician that came on stage and did a variation of this trick while the comedian stood behind the two volunteers. In this instance the two volunteers weren’t holding hands, they stood about 5 feet apart. He did the same thing of tapping on different parts of one volunteers body but they both had their eyes closed and they both felt what happened. He even traced his finger on one of their backs to draw a letter and they both said the same letter.
It seemed genuine that the comedian didn’t know about this. It was an intimate set, not a big hall. I don’t have any clue how it was done and it’s been bugging me.
I mean I assume it’s a plant, one of the two people already knows what he is going to touch
That is not how it’s done
That is how Uri Gellar’s phantom phone book is done
I don’t know how it is done, I was just brainstorming possibilities
His fraud is not being a funny magician, it’s selling self help books and shit based on funny magic tricks.
Not a fan of this guy, but watch his hands as he diverts the attention to Steph before he even touches him or she closes her eyes. He most likely has an invisible piece of filament in his hands he’s using to tickle her but his timing is really impressive to take your attention away from when he gets her.
No, and also yes…. Some of what you said is correct, some of what you said is incorrect.
[deleted]
Not exactly, but not entirely far off. They are extremely standard magic tricks. He also invents tricks though, but not this one.
And what he does is worse. The step to having people sincerely believe you have powers is the worse part.
I think the difference is the lying. Most magicians have no pretense; they will tell you they’re doing a magic trick. You may not know how they do it, but you know deep down there is a logical explanation. Oz is different because he doesn’t call himself a magician. He tells you he can pick up cues from your body language or how you talk, which leads you to believe he can read your mind, when he’s not doing that at all. So if he’s going to say it’s not a trick, it’s fair for others to call him out if they want to.
There’s a guy in a green suit he edits out in real time
Many of his tricks require some type of prep before he performs it, and sometimes the participants don’t even know.
Honestly, he could have just prepped Ayesha for this performing the same trick on her while she was alone, and then cued her, unbeknownst to her, when he asked “What did I just do to you?”
He does prep tricks. He did not pre show this one.
They are in on it.
This isn’t even remotely true.
So the real trick is to turn literally everybody into good actors. Fuck that’s even more impressive
Only babies should be impressed by this.
I don’t think babies would even comprehend what’s happening in the video and would probably just want a bottle
Some adults won’t comprehend whats happening in the video and want a bottle too 😉
There is no way they are in on it. You would have half the NBA and NFL and celebrities etc… be in on it and never tell a single soul about it for the rest of their lives
Yeah, whats more likely is this guy is part of the x-men
It’s a magic trick
Have you seen pastors cure possessed people at their mega churches?
Do you believe that they are getting rid of the devil?
This is the same shit minus the seizures.
You are replying this to someone who’s literally telling you it is a trick bro
And I said the trick is that they are in on it lol. He said they are not. Follow along buddy!
I’m not sure what you are missing
You said they were in on it, OP replied they weren’t, you replied acting as if the only way he could claim they weren’t was if he believed Oz had superpowers, he replied it was a magic trick, you replied as if the user believed in magic.
You are the one failing to follow your own conversation.
Nope, and if you actually care beyond acting like you’re right when you aren’t, go watch Stevie baskin, he has a YouTube video showing how he does it all.
They are not in on it
He doesn’t use plants. Otherwise, you are basically on the right track.
i think he uses plants as well, but that’s not the main point. I think the trick you see there is one of the most honest he does.
He doesn’t use plants. I’m not sure how to convince you of this.
I know every trick he does. There are no plants. There are very few magicians who use plants.
One is that British magician, Dynamo. He uses plants.
I also wouldn’t call this one honest at all, it doesn’t show you all parts of the trick. That is one of the most dishonest things of videos of tricks to magicians.
One of the most honest, not saying it’s honest, as the clip is incomplete.
Yeah, depends on how we define honestly within a dishonest art form, but I think we are in agreement
No cuts, no pre work, no plants, clear message it’s a trick
I don’t think pre work is dishonest at all. Plants are. Cuts Are. I don’t think it has to be a clear message it’s a trick, but it cannot be a clear message it’s mythical or religious or whatever.
The trick is usually a sleight of hand maneuver done off camera beforehand.
Specifically he will often do the start of the trick pre-show off camera, and then do the reveal on camera, but present the reveal as the whole trick. So the subject sees a pretty cool trick but nothing truly impossible, while the audience sees something impossible.
Yup. Exactly. Not sure why I got downvoted. It’s literally what the Pablo torre story shows.
Apparently this is why he watches her have sex. He feels what she feels.
And he’s got to hold her hand the whole time.
I had to check which sub we were on
Forgot which sub I was in for a second
Nah this subreddit sometimes man 😂😂
Are they a swinger type couple? Did I miss something or is it a joke
“And for my next trick, I will make Curry support affordable housing!”
The bull felt it too
This guy sucks
mossad agent
Pablo Torre found out that Oz is not all he’s cracked up to be https://youtu.be/yhvzmIDdUVY?is=X_M-8vqCiYGbaTeu
23 seconds in, you see the little string between his hands being lit up red (as he’s behind Steph), visible for a few seconds. Very well done, with a bit of editing.
Half of NBA fans just realized Steph isn’t a short man.
Showed this video to my gf and she was surprised he was taller than most of the people in view. He really looks small on the court lol
constant camera cuts and zoom ins make this very believable
Easy trick. It’s based on dual reality.
Mehnnn a lot of you in the comments are sad smh. Just overanalysing and hating on something that genuinely made the participants excited.
I wonder if…. nah nevermind
This guy would definitely get stoned in the 1500s
I think David Blaine did that to Will Smith and Jada. It freaked me out then as well.
The video is clipped.
You can see the string he’s holding to perform the invisible touches on Ayesha.
Connection lasts up to 45min.
“I’m 100% hitting on guys right now” - Steph
https://youtu.be/Cgx9naMFyv4?is=6_J7OMvQ2YuvF2a-
Invisible string (and editing)
The editing is the important piece because he cuts out any of the parts where you would have been able to see him touch Ayesha with the invisible string
Black Mirror super sex incoming?
I’ve lost all respect sorry this is absolutely rigged for money… Or ratings in not sure which. I won’t be silent . Just saw it live sry.
The way I thought it worked is he actually subtly touched her nose and chin before this video started. That’s how David Blaine did it anyway
If anyone is interested Pablo Torres has a pretty good video debunking this type of magic… not sure if it’s the same guy… but this mentalist stuff 😂 yea that Pablo Torres…
BLACK MAGIC. DARKNESS!
ok but what if he touched his dick? Then what hmm?
Love to see the bewilderment in Stephs face, this dude is literal magic on the court
She’s in on it
it makes me sad that Steph has fallen for this republican grifter.
Squirt!
Wait til Pablo finds out about this
pablo torre already explained his tricks. he loves to get peoples phone passcodes before filming
“Bro has a 100% success rate with NBA players 😂 Steph looked genuinely confused.”
Okay, that’s amazing.
“Trick” is literally in the name “magic trick”. Everyone knows that there is deception involved in magic tricks, no one actually thinks magicians are doing real magic
These mentalists are seriously insane
If it’s all so obvious I then why don’t I understand? That’s the point. It’s not obvious until someone walks you through it. By then the performer is long gone and the event over. So… it “worked”.
She is looking nice. I love it when people do the work & go to the gym or eat better
