Nikola Jokic shoves Suns owner Mat Ishbia after fighting for the ball [2023]
Good
Phoenix’s last playoff win. Was it worth it Mat
Millionaires violence on billionaires
I doubt Jokic is a millionaire, look at his grocery bill with his brothers
He must be on food stamps after his horses
And his Umamusume addiction
“Mambo.”
-Nicola Jokic
“Omatsuri Mambo!” - also Jokic
I’m still waiting for cygames having enough balls to make an ad with Jokic
Does Jokic want to do those ads though? It’s a two way street
If he did it with minions, he will happily do it with horsegirls.
He’s in the perfect city for it, he can hang out with those Broncos fans
For what it’s worth, there’s a massive difference in the amount of power and influence that exists between a millionaire and a billionaire. A shove is a shove.
Knowing what we know now about Ishbias finances he may have been asking Jokic for money
He deserved it… give Joker the damn ball. He needs to take an acting lesson on the art of flopping from some of the NBAs stars
I don’t think he flopped much. I reckon a chicken wing push like that from Jokic is still pretty strong, and he has a chair or whatever behind his legs.
All that said, I agree he deserved it
It’s not so much the falling, but flailing his arms like wacky waving inflatable tube.
Mat played at MSU. This is a completely normal body control motion for them. Izzo teaches it that way. See Draymonds entire career.
The flailing of the arms is theatrical.
I mean, they were still trying to help the Phoenix player up. Did Jokic think they were stalling the inbound or something?
I think I remember him saying he was trying to quick inbound the ball while Phoenix was out of sorts.
He needed the ref to hand him the ball for that inbound. And no ref is going to do that while a player is lying in the stands.
Nothing pisses off Jokic like making a basketball game take longer than it absolutely has to be
Then why do nuggets games always end up as nail biters and OT
Because their point guard plays hero ball for 3 quarters
It’s because they have bottom 10 defense in the league - amazing offense but cant get stops reliably so games can have giant momentum swings
We’re too reliant on a now chronically injured AG to have a survivable defense. The only downside to Jokic is that he pretty much kills your ability to be an elite defense
you guys should’ve gotten giannis 👍
It is the double edge sword of having your offensive savant also be your center.
Hey. It’s because our GOAT level perennial MVP candidate just chooses not to score the ball at will..
Suns fans with their 0 championships “😠😭”
I’m actually a nuggets fan, joker is my king and savior. Long time DNVR subscriber. No need to shame other teams, you embarrass us.
lol ok
I don’t think anyone, even owners and NBA execs should be involving themselves in the game on the court like that.
Crazy that this didn’t result in a punishment. He tried to impact the game by holding on to the ball/preventing player from inbounding. Anyone else in the crowd would have been booted out of the stadium for this.
Not the front row seat fans. People with money do stuff like that all the time.
Regardless of how long he holds onto the ball he’s not preventing shit, not sure where you’re coming up with these conclusions.
At the most he’s impacting momentum and/or emotions, and I strongly doubt even that was on his mind. Just some rich guy reveling in the opportunity to feel like the main character and looking like an absolute tool doing so.
What are you talking about as soon as Jokic gets the ball and gives it to ref they can inbound the ball what the fuck are you talking about? If Josh can’t get up they can play 4v5.
He doesn’t watch or play basketball, obviously
i’ve never seen a ref let a player inbound an out of bounds ball while another player was tangled in the crowd. do refs actually do this?
Yes they will only stop the game to wipe the floor if it’s wet to call a foul or subs
Why do people speak on shit with authority when they are absolutely clueless?
Jokic is a notoriously fast inbounder, he frequently gets his team easy buckets ahead of the defense being set. Here he is trying to inbound the ball because his team would have a 5v4 advantage. Matt Ishba knows this so he holds onto ball to let his Suns player get back on defense. This is a violation of the fan code of conduct, any other person would be ejected and would be considered for further ban. There are league standard cards with code of conduct on all the courtside seats in every arena for every game. There is a bullet that calls out giving up the ball to player or refs immediately if you have it specifically to avoid interfering with the flow of the game like this.
Any other fan doing this would get thrown out of the building.
Everyone should be spaced 10 feet back like in the Bubble
Fine him for flopping
Tax the floppy
Based
Owners are the worst of the worst people in the entire NBA. And it’s not even close.
random but you would think the owner would choose a more central courtside seat idk
It’s so he’s close to the tunnel. He can run up to his box whenever he wants
fair enough
He’s probably got lines of blow up there ready to go
he should have to do it in the bathroom stall like the rest of us smh
Paul Allen’s seat was right on the baseline beneath the basket closer to the home bench. It must be a decent spot.
Nice. Now let’s see Paul Allen’s baseline seat…
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful thickness of it. Oh, my God. It even has a watermark.
Same with Balmer. Cuban also mostly sat on the baseline near the Mavs bench.
Owners are usually in box seats. Don’t want central courtside seats empty on TV
Ishbia was, is, and always will be a bitch
You doing ok dawg?
As a fan with a bitch owner I just wanted to let you know that ishbia was, is and will always be a bitch
Doin better than you dawg
Please change the caption to ‘Entitled NBA owner stalls the game by holding onto the ball’ 😂
I don’t even think Jokic knew that was the Suns owner 😭
He wasn’t even looking in his direction.
Suns fan here. After having an owner who didn’t give a shit, we loved this.
May they bless the White Sox too (sooner than later we hope).
With him growing up as a fan of the Bad Boys Pistons, you can see the influence on him. He was trying his hardest to do something to give his team an advantage. Especially with how Jokic was abusing Phoenix.
34/13/10 averages in that series. 22-23 Jokic was an absolute MONSTER
Goddamn I’m glad I’ve watched my team win a title so I don’t have to look at bullshit like this as a sign of a good owner lol
Ishbia also broke a streaming contract with Bally so he could broadcast nearly every Suns game for free. A $20 antenna has allowed me to watch the majority of our games without having to futz around with any apps, subscriptions, or shady websites. For that alone, he has my gratitude.

Joker is so damn funny
that look to the camera
I remember Wilbon trying to act like Jokic brutally assaulted Ishbia.
Ishbia is a douchebia
Another reason to love Jokic - Ishbia should have been ejected.
That’s our Serb !
This ain’t even a shove
When this happened, people who have never watched Jokic playing basketball for more than 5 minutes were commenting like he lost his mind. He still does the same exact thing trying to quick inbound it when a defender is out of the play. The refs have had to tone it down themselves because of how sneaky Jokic is at doing this.
Lmao that dumbass flop in his courtside seat?
If you inject yourself into the game like that, expect it.
Lmao at the owner flopping
If a fan did this, they’d be ejected and possibly banned from coming to games in the future
You’d think the fans would start cheering
He fell faster than the stock he put up for loan!
We need more of this energy
I wish he had actually shoved him. Caused actual damage.
He flopped
That POS put his hands on the mother fucking king
Flops like his player ffs
I was at this game. Good times.
“GAWD PROMISED ME THAT BALL 3,000 YEARS AGO!!”
Btw in this game Jokic had 53 points and 11 assists on 74 true shooting just a ridiculous series in part of an already great playoff performance
Jokic is so funny.
He knew what he was doing and got exactly what he wanted.
All time flop
Somewhat related but if a player tumbles out of bounds and into the stands (colliding with fans), seems like refs should not check the ball in until things seem okay.

rent free hyperbole
2 yrs ago? Really? What are we doing here?? This thing wasn’t even named. ‘The Malice in the Palace’ was more interesting.
Tbh this was the best suns team since nash amare days. They had a shot and were probably better than every east team and behind nuggs only those playoffs
The 2022-2023 Suns team was the best post-Nash team? I’m surprised you would say they were better than the NBA Finals AND the winningest Suns team ever. Why exactly?
When you look at (and honestly in the moment) it was clear the Nuggets were by far the best playoff team that year.
The team that made the finals wasnt good ir contender level. They never beat 1 good team that wcf as everyone was hurt but the finals were close as it was 2 teams that both made it due to injuries to the better teams. Making finals means nothing. Nash suns never made finals but no one is putting them behind 2021 suns. 2022 suns were better and more experienced but lost to the first healthy west team they saw.
2023 suns did better vs the best playoff team than anyone else. KD booker cp3 was a good trio even though short lived.
KD booker cp3 was a good trio even though short lived.
I honestly forgot how insanely short lived it actually was.
Kevin Durant played 15 games as Chris Paul’s Suns teammate (12-3)
Kevin Durant played 16 games as Carmelo Anthony’s Olympics teammate (16-0)
Getting downboated but suns were favorites to make finals out of west at start of playoffs and never lost with KD playing after the trade. They did lose CP3 to injury but were losing at that point anyway but still KD and Booker went off with insane TS% that series.
People just like to downplay every team Nuggets played that year to diminish their championship.
People are salty that 2021 was a joke of a playoffs while 2023 nuggets did face a healthier nba than most seasons the past decade lol.
Look I’m always going to support a billionaire getting pushed, but Jokic getting pissy when he can’t check the ball in 1.2 seconds is so annoying. The refs aren’t going to let you throw it in that fast anyway dude!
a fan has no business holding onto the ball, even if they own the team
That’s for the refs to handle, not players.
He had it for three fucking seconds before Jokic immediately charged at him to rip it out of his hands like kid stealing a toy
Yeah a fan can’t hold the ball and delay the game. Tf?
Do you actually think the game was delayed because he was holding the ball? Okogie hasn’t even fully stood up yet and is helping the camerman who he barreled over. give me a break. Nothing was delayed here. In fact if anything the cause of the delay was jokic trying to grab the ball aggressively making a bigger deal out of it than it needed to be.
Yes?
Jokic tries to play with pace any chance he can, dead ball or alive. And Ishbia delays him here.
The ref has to touch the ball when it goes out of bounds after a dive like that. You know that right? Jokic can’t just pick it up from isbhia and throw it in, and the ref isn’t going to let Jokic do that until okogie is back on the court
Yes. And Ishbia still slowed the game down and prevented the Nuggets from playing with the pace Jokic wanted.
Ishbia was trying to give more time for Okogie to catch his breathe and less time before the ref gave the ball to Jokic, both advantages for his team.
This is pretty obvious lol
I feel like you’re approaching this from the wrong angle. Even if Ishbia holds the ball for only one second and doesn’t give it up, he’s deciding to become part of the game. That’s objective, it doesn’t matter if the game was actually delayed or not due to it.
Oh ok so you just want to get mad over something that had zero effect on the game? Whats it like always being miserable?
Spectators can’t insert themselves into the game. It’s pretty simple. You’re the one getting mad over it.
Jokic saw the sprawled Suns player and wanted to inbound to get an advantage. do you watch the game bruh? Mat is clearly hanging onto it and then tosses it before trying to body Jokic, what a clown. honestly didn’t realize that Minny fans were this bitter about Denver
Jokic so good that he has more court awareness in a split second than this jabroni has after being able to review a play for 3 years
imagine watching basketball and thinking 3 seconds doesnt matter lmao
For a while they were letting him inbound it in 1.2 seconds. They are way more aware of what he’s doing Since this happened though lol
Yeah I never been Jokic’s side on this one either. The ball bounced to Ishbia, who then is making sure Okogie and the guy he landed on are okay getting up when Jokic aggressively runs in and tries ripping the ball out of his hands, which causes him to instinctively clutch it a little, as anyone would do. Jokic was out of line.
But he does it all the time 🤣 it’s literally part of his game. When you go flying into the stands (maybe not this bad) but enough to get behind the play Jokic is trying to get the ball back up the court as quick as possible to capitalize on that man Advantage.
Just because he likes to get the ball in fast doesn’t make his aggressive actions okay.
They weren’t going to let him throw the ball in right then anyways. They kind of need to make sure the player gets up and the fans are okay before play continues. He had no regard for anyone’s safety.
Plus first he could and should have just said “Ball?!” Not try and aggressively rip it away and get pissed from someone clearly not expecting that because they were checking on other people.
I don’t see any way to excuse his chicken winging of Ishbia either.
I don’t think people would give the same consideration/excuses for any other player.
Jokic was wilding here.
Nah dude he got away with this quick inbound shit WAYYY more back then compared to now 😂guys flying into the stands after smoking a fast break he did the same shit. Just because play stops doesn’t mean he is gonna reactive different. The only reason this happened is because it went to Ishbia. If it was a normal fan they would threw it straight to Jokic and he would have threw it to the ref. I’m not gonna argue whether or not the refs would have let him inbound right away but I wasnt surprised at all to see Jokic try to get it back cuz like I already said he does that shit all the time.
Also keep in mind Jokic isn’t the only athlete in thinking if you’re a FAN then don’t get in my way if I’m a player. You’re not playing. I ask for the ball. I want the ball. Think about it if that wasn’t the owner they are probably getting kicked out. You’re not playing lol
That still doesn’t excuse his actions. If it was a regular fan he ran up to, ripped the ball away, and chicken winged then the fine probably would have been even worse. Curry got thrown out of a finals game for inadvertently hitting a fan with his thrown mouth guard. Think about this objectively.
I think you need to think about it objectively. Why would a FAN be refusing to give the ball to a player? You aren’t playing so what exactly are you going to do with the ball? Jokic doesn’t even need to rip it out of a fans hands to make his case for fan interference.
Ishbia on the other hand knew what was going on. Sure there is some empathy to make sure everyone is okay but objectively speaking he just spent 6B on the Phoenix Suns. Why would he give the ball to a player actively trying to take advantage of the situation that hurts the suns? I understand both sides. Jokic always does this. Ishbia wasn’t having it against his team. The reason why it’s never happened with a regular fan is because fans are just that. FANS. They give the ball back to the guys who are…ya know PLAYING IN THE GAME?
Edit: loser blocked me but got his little kiddie downvote in first 😂😂
I actually watched the video with objective eyes and what you’re saying isn’t true so I’m not going to continue this back and forth.
