Pablo Torre EXPOSES Kushner Lakers Purchase Story
Adam Silver going to be doing everything he can to silence Pablo soon
Pablo Torre is proof positive their is a desire for more investigative journalism in sports. I hope others try to get back into it.
I’ve been speed running his Youtube archive this week and it’s been amazing. I’ve learned so much about the Riley Gaines nonsense, the Onion’s acquisition of Infowars, and most recently the Sophie Cunningham story.
Taking recs about what to prioritize next.
The recent one on FIFA/infantino is really informative, especially with the kushner ties to both that purchase attempt and the Lakers purchase
Oh yeah fuck Infantino. That’s on my list for tomorrow in the morning if my work calendar stays meeting free!
Just don’t go to work bro, tell your boss you’re spending the day with Pablo
The Life of Pablo
TLoPT
I work from home so ¿porqué no los dos?
If you want to lighten it up a little, the Hamburger episode is great, and most of the chats with Katie Nolan and Dan Soder
Katie Nolan is such a fun guest to have on.
Them talking about fetishes after the Sophie Cunningham part was hilarious. The segue using feet stuff was so smooth in hindsight.
Katie and Dan rehashing Katie’s Jeopardy! Finals run is such a fun saga
Harambe was fun though not sports relate. Along with the hamburger comedian.
DICKS OUT. Now and forever.
Idk what the hell the hamburger comedian is but now I’m intrigued.
Quick short about it:
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tJ6YY2_xUD0
But he subs hamburger for a lot of words.
This is so wholesome. It’s like a combination of Butters and Crip Mac.
The stuff about the NFLPA and the MLBPA is also super fascinating. And crazy.
Those are so good. Then Dan Soder sneaks in with Ronny Chieng hiding in corner.
Ronny Cheing?? He’s great on The Daily Show.
Yes sir. https://youtu.be/fX5AnWhP65s?is=igN7FmO3HyARWzEq
All anyone needs to know about the “protecting women’s sports” movement is that they are using transphobia to manipulate people.
It’s complete and utter bullshit.
Worst of all, it was wildly successful. The mega-wealthy now know that they can hoard more wealth if they lead with transphobia.
The birding one, The one with Rony Seikaly, and the one with Charles Flores.
don’t skip the birdwatching episode. You’re not ready for it.
Don’t sleep on the cheating in birdwatching episode. Or the cheating in fencing.
Pre-World Cup episode on the FIFA asks was a fun listen. Also baseball players who traded wives, Belichick series was soapy but a good listen
The Cowboys fan on death row was another great one.
There is an amazing episode on widespread cheating and corruption in fencing that is a must watch
Pablo Torre is proof positive their(sic) is a desire for more investigative journalism in sports.
Pablo Torre is proof positive their there is a desire for more investigative journalism in sports.
and the crazy thing is he isn’t even that serious of an investigative journalist. He spends a lot of time on unserious gossip and his content is structured as casual conversations that often go on unrelated tangents or must adhere to arbitrary time constraints where a video about scottie pippins’ ex-wife’s dating life is equal parts long as one on white house corruption.
My point is he isn’t even focusing all his efforts on exposing corruption and he’s currently the best I’ve seen at it.
Yeah, I think what Pablo shows is that there isn’t really an appetite for investigative journalism, there’s an appetite for entertaining content (obviously) and Pablo has figured out how to make real investigative journalism into entertaining content.
Need more legitimate investigative journalism in general.
Pay for your news and they will appear. Investigative journalism is expensive
Doesn’t matter what we want, it matters what narratives the people with the most money to gain/lose want.
That’s my point. Torre generates clicks. Others should capitalize on that.
It’s called learned helplessness and it’s sort of contagious.
The desire for authentic investigative journalism back with receipts and facts is what the world needs now beyond this sport
There*
Pablo isn’t committing suicide anytime soon.
These exposes are a cry for help, clearly.
Pablo is faster than FBI
In a battle of wits between Kash Patel and Pablo Torre, I know who I’m picking
Exactly, Kash Patel all the way.
No one can abuse their FBI power and waste taxpayer dollars to get to important things like their girlfriend’s concert better than my man Kash. That’s proof positive he is a top man and very high IQ.
Never forget that a homeless person on Reddit solved the Brown U shooting case before the FBI
The only thing Silver will ever take action on is Pablo reporting facts.
Actual journalism like this that speaks truth to power is such a good thing in our fucked up country right now
Pablo gotta stay away from open windows
He’s not even competent and running the NBA what makes you think that he can do anything about Pablo?
I’m legitimately worried about our sports leagues crashing and burning
Oh it is definitely going there.
ALL the top organizations are either getting bribed or bought out by the worse people alive.
It is gonna be unsustainable.
Simmons was spot on when he said sports ownership is just a place for disgustingly rich shitheads to stash money. It’s just another wealth asset. They don’t give a fuck about sports at all.
I’m pretty sure Ballmer gives a fuck, and he’s the one currently doing the most to undermine the NBA’s integrity.
Yet he’s not even close to being the NBA’s worst owner. He actually paid for his own stadium and gave back to the community instead of using it as a vehicle to loot state and local budgets like countless others
Plus have you seen how red his face gets? He may suck idk but he doesn’t totally not care
I’ve seen how wet his pits get when he’s fired up
Perfectly normal amount of sweat, get a new slant
Love a good cocaine sweat
Or you are an evil regime that is trying to sportswash themselves.
Which ironically are usually some of the best owners
Balmer definitely gives a fuck. You don’t cheat like that if you don’t care. I think like 20% care a good bit, 30% care but not a ton, and 50% barely care at all.
Yeah I’ll begrudgingly throw in the Kroenkes too. Can’t argue with results, they spend aggressively, paid for SoFi and they win everywhere.
Still suss because of what they did to the Rams and the Super League fiasco.
Arsenal fans for two decades up until recently would vehemently disagree with you
We are going to miss the days of meddling owners - guys that were in the draft room, actively participating in the nitty gritty. It was sometimes self-sabotaging, but they were always motivated by the foundational desire to win. Steinbrenner, Cuban, Davis, etc.
There are still plenty around, but the soaring value of franchises is going to price out many potential owners that can treat their teams like passion projects. Replacing them with ownership groups motivated (and bound) by their fiduciary duties to investors and shareholders. They suck the passion and magic out of the sport. I mean, is there evidence that Kushner and Iger are even basketball fans?
Anyone else waiting to see a player throw a finals game
It’s gonna happen sooner or later
that shit already happened over 100 years ago in baseball.
That’s pushing it…the guys who would even be capable of doing that (star players) are already mega rich, so it wouldn’t/couldn’t be a financial motive. I just can’t imagine that lol
Doesn’t take a star player to throw a game. Remember when JR Smith single handedly lost a Finals game?
If Malik Beasley ever makes it into a finals game you know he’s throwing it.
lmao can you imagine if something like that happened in todays sports betting era. anyone other than JR and it’s an instant investigation
How many tens of millions a year does Kawhi make from his NBA salary alone?
Yeah, people that have a lot of money never commit crimes in an attempt to make more money!
did you not see Deaaron Fox like 2 months ago?
De’Arron Fox says hello
Gonna be an “injury” where a player has to sit out
The problem is that the only people who can afford to run a team are billionaires and billionaires are by definition evil people. Good people don’t accumulate that much wealth. It’s impossible. There’s no ethical way to make a billion dollars.
Pablo is doing important work, but 99% of people have never heard a thing about any of this
And won’t care even if they do
And neither do we. When the previous owner gets pardoned by Trump or the DOJ drops the charges, how many Laker’s fans are going to tune out for opening day?
There’s 99 more important things in life than sports. Just the reality of life.
I don’t know about sports overall but the NBA ownership has looked suuuuper sketchy the last year.
It’s just a matter of time. Billionaires and private equity ruin everything. Especially private equity. Every single thing private equity has ever done has been to make something cheaper, shittier, and more expensive.
Like Pablo said it’s going to become a luxury class expense and regular fans are going to be pushed out, especially in bigger cities.
I mean the rich are inherently bad people. Owners of these teams are the worst of the worst. You used to be able to buy a team without being ridiculously rich. One of my friends great grandparents owned a part of the Yankees in the 70s. They are well off, but by no means even kind of close to these owners these days. Like it was just a successful person could buy a team.
You’re seeing the effects of neoliberalism. Deregulation, weakening of unions, austerity, etc have all allowed for shifting huge amounts of wealth to rich people. Wealth inequality in the US is at greater levels than the gilded age.
Neoconservatism killing our reputation abroad. Neoliberalism killing our domestic class mobility.
We need less neo ideological movements.
It doesn’t really matter what label it gets or the reasons for people supporting it. It’s just the natural conclusion of capital acting in its own interest.
Looking up the numbers, they were sold in 64’ for essentially 14 million, my friends great grandpa was part of that group ( no idea how big of stake) and sold in 73 to Steinbrenner for 10 million, it actually went down 4 million or down 30% or so. I can’t do math well, correct me. That was 50 years ago, now the Yankees are worth about 10 billion. Or went in value 1,000 times. These are just different people buying these teams ( and seeing what the lakers sold for, Yankees probably more than 10 billion) I think it went up 99,900%. It went down 30% the last time it sold.
Like not even comparable.
Bro…you’re sort of right but dont sugar coat it too much, those people were fucking loaded for the time.
Loaded but not like today.
Enshitification comes for all.
I’m legitimately worried about our *country crashing and burning
In a weird sense, I think the owners having so much power in the NFL kind of protects it more than the NBA and other sports leagues.
College football is especially fucked though, private equity is already worming its way in and the conferences can’t agree to work together in any sensible way. Only a matter of time before it collapses.
Agreed. College sports is in big trouble
I am excited about it! It will be a catalyst for the downfall of this hell of an American regime we’re living in. Can’t pacify us with sports if leagues are imploding. We’re less than 8 years away from NCAA collapsing, MLB and WNBA will be in a lockout next year, and NFL is a house of cards ready to fall.
Pablo nailed it calling it “the fracking of sports…that will eventually poison the environment for all of us.”
Feels like everything is crashing & burning
Just wait until the MLB CBA negotiations this winter. The sport may change massively if the owners get what is reported that they want (hard cap).
Getting in bed with all the sports betting companies was the beginning of the end
why, the NFL had a concussion crisis where playing their game could legitimately ruin someone’s life, and adding more games to the season would cause more injuries… and we all decided to keep watching and make the league stronger than ever.
Let them burn. We had sports before we had owners.
Pab Save America
Pablo is the goat sports journalist
Of this era, which doesn’t exactly have a high bar.
Still, Pablo is raising the bar (or setting the bar higher)
Absolutely. It means more because so few are willing or capable of reporting the truth about the oligarchs of our country like Ballmer.
Pablo cares more about telling true stories than he’s worried about making billionaire enemies, and that’s a fucking amazing breath of fresh air we should all appreciate.
Ronan Farrow’s Catch and Kill podcast is a great listen if you want to learn about how risky it really is to take on people like that as a journalist. Harvey Weinstein hired a private security company staffed by ex Mossad agents to stalk and threaten Farrow while he was in the process of investigating that story. He also interviews a few of Weinsteins victims so you get a good look at how he used his wealth and power to silence them as well.
Having billionaire enemies is something I would brag about all the time
Jokes aside, he does have a team of people that work with him and he collaborates with other journalists too. Thankfully it’s not just him doing this. There’s way too much shit in sports for one man to remain sane doing it alone.
And I like it that he gives those journalists props multiple times during the podcast
Fuck around, Pablo finds out
Pab going to Philippines
Pablo should hire security. He’s pissing off a lot of insanely wealthy people. I’m worried for his safety
What exactly is going to happen to him for presenting findings that were already public knowledge? It’s not a secret Kushner owns a venture capital firm where he gets the majority of his money. A VCs portfolio of companies they’ve invested is literally posted on their homepage
Thrive Capital isn’t even close to one of the most unethical firms. This sub better be glad no partners from Founders Fund bought a team
Something being public knowledge and buried in a mountain of legalese really doesn’t mean anything unless a journalist is able to transcribe what it means for the public
This was on the front page of Bloomberg, how is that buried under legalese?
I think it’s more that Pablo is a part of the New Media ecosystem, meaning he’ll reach younger audiences more divorced from your conventional news system.
Because most people on this sub exclusively get their “news” from this sub, they’re not reading Bloomberg or anything else lol
90% of the people commenting in this thread didn’t even watch the 13 minute video.
They’re just reacting to the Ben Shapiro-esque title.
Yeah, I watched the whole thing and I’m not sure what exactly he “exposed” here.
He’s fine lol it’s not Russia here yet despite Trump and GOP’s best efforts
Sure but isn’t there Middle Eastern money involved? They don’t have a great track record with journalists.
Yes but in an American system. And so far, that holds up in protecting interests. But idk in a few years.
I mean I think he’s fine at the moment. But genuinely if someone like Jared Kushner decided he wanted Pablo Torre dead and payed someone to do it even with evidence do you think right now he would actually suffer consequences for that? Even something with as much evidence as the Esptein files has resulted basically zero arrests. If one of Trumps friends was behind it he would absolutely make sure that the case got dropped. No one is going to be held responsible for all the FDA cuts that are now resulting thousands of people getting sick. We may not live in Russia but not a single billionaire has been held accountable for anything since Trump took office. I don’t think a blatant murder would change that.
lol you’d be surprise
Talmbout Polo Toro? Great guy never meddim
water weed dune hair b
Give us an example
Boeing whistleblowers were getting suicided a few years ago and you’re confidently saying that?
Lmao buddy is watching too many crime thrillers.
The NBA loves Saudi money.
The owners and the players.
Nah the is Emirati money. Totally different /s
It is actually quite different. They be fighting proxy wars over this shit.
Can someone give the tldr?
This dude who’s selling the team, who also owns the Dodgers, got a bunch of money from someone in Abu Dhabi to finance the buying of the Lakers. He’s under investigation for a bunch of shady money laundering shit, selling the Lakers, or flipping them essentially, because he hasn’t even owned them for a year, to fund his legal battles.
Isnt Kushners fund also funded by a lot of sketchy foreign money?
Yes. Definitely
But he’s brother to the President’s son-in-law so totally and legal
His weapons manufacturing company got an unfortunately totally legal \(20 billion no-bid contract from the Pentagon for what will probably end up being \)1 billion worth of collateral judging by how quickly we’ve burned through our stockpiles. Or less, could also end up delivering even less than that.
To get the facts right, NBA teams can have a maximum of 20% of private equity money from any one firm. 30% in total. Meaning Kushner’s thrive capital can only contribute 20% of the total ownership stake.
Kushner’s own personal funds (yes, largely derived over the years from Thrive capital) are uncapped.
I guess my question is, who cares if he sold it to fund his legal battles? That doesn’t seem like a crazy or controversial thing to do.
His legal battles are directly tied to his purchasing of the team.
His insurance companies are being investigated over $16 billion in private-credit loans and whether they were improperly disclosed.
How does that directly relate to the Lakers?
I think the allegation/conspiracy is that he buys the team, knows he’s under federal investigation, gifts Trump a world series ring at the Dodgers White House visit, then sells the team months later to Kushner’s brother in a matter of three days with no one expecting him to sell the team whatsoever
It could seem from the outside that he’s looking for a pardon from Trump given his ring gift and now sells the team to someone in Trump’s extended family seemingly out of nowhere
Except isn’t he selling it for tons? It’s not like he’s giving it away…
It doesn’t matter. Trump’s son-in-law’s brother wanted to buy an NBA team, and suddenly Mark Walters made the Lakers available. The profit he’ll make is just the vig. Or like a tip for good service. Trump doesn’t crush other rich guys, he just compromises them and uses them up when he wants something, then sends them home with a pat on the bum and a bag of candy.
Is the takeaway that it’s good that he’s selling it then? Or should I watch the video to understand more lol
Of course you should watch the video to understand more that’s just inherently true
The owner is also under federal investigation, gave the president a World Series ring, and then sold the team within 72 hours to the brother of Jared Kushner, a senior White House advisor.
Yeah, that’s the key part. The man behind the investigation into him is Donald Trump, as he’s in charge of the FBI and the DOJ. So Mark Walter selling to someone in Trump’s family a month after the investigation was announced is sketchy as hell.
I’m shocked at how many people in this thread skipped over or didn’t catch this part.
That’s the bribe. Thanks for spelling it out. I needed it and am not the best with vids.
I mean at the valuation the Lakers stake is going for, other owners aren’t going to complain. But this along with Portland goings on should really call into question the process for some of these ownership groups in acquiring a franchise.
Like did the NBA know how much of Walter’s actual money he put into buying his stake, or how much was sovereign wealth?
In selling the Lakers into Trump’s orbit part of the deal is undoubtedly killing any investigations into the old ownership group. So bribery via sale of favors from our justice system as i’m sure we’ll find out about in a few months or years. Just another Thursday afternoon with the rise of fascism, corruption and oligarchy.
But how about Dijonnai Carrington and trans athletes, amirite?
So he didn’t expose anything?
Don’t ruin the circlejerk
not to mention the new guys buying has close connections to govt. that’s investigating the guy selling. must be nice to get 20B tax payer money to spend on fifa and nba teams.
He didn’t say anything that isn’t already known but suggested possible dots that could be connected. Lakers owner was under federal investigation by Trump doj and possibly financially supported by Abu Dhabi, suddenly sold team to Kushner (who is linked to Trump), which makes you question whether there was some shady deal here to get out of federal investigation
In 72 hours after a meeting was set up between Walter and the purchasing group by Silver. Walter recently was seen at the White House giving the president a World Series ring a few days after the DOJ started their investigation into him since he also owns the dodgers.
Walter also owns a nascar team along with the dodgers and has been everywhere in the world of sports recently. The Abu Dhabi connection is much bigger than just the NBA, but I think what Torre is reporting is that a sale of this nature shouldn’t take just 72 hours, shouldn’t be set up by the commissioner, and shouldn’t involve the White House.
It’s amusing to me that we’re starting to even lose the understanding of what “reporting” means. Making connections is what journalists do. Present the Five Ws and an H and work accordingly from there. A lot of people here seem to think Pablo should have presented some major scoop, just like in the movies, even though most non-sports fans don’t have a single clue about what any of this is or means or why they should care.
Former laker owner commit big fraud, trump son in law buy laker, former laker owner big fraud sweep under rug
I’d hate to see major sports teams go the way of WWF selling out to private equity and pricing out true fans in favor of casuals with deep pockets just there to be present at the event barely knowing what’s going on. Sadly with hindsight this ball started rolling when media contracts started getting out of control and they started blacking out local markets.
pricing out true fans in favor of casuals with deep pockets just there to be present at the event barely knowing what’s going on.
Haven’t been to a game recently have you?
Things can always get worse, and they will. These guys are going to extract every cent out of you to pay that $12.5 billion
Hope Pablo doesn’t have any skeletons in his closet. Anyways the NBA is becoming corrupt. Never thought I would see it.
Then you haven’t been paying attention
People forget the Nets were owned by a russian oligarch
Yeah dude must be squeaky clean if no one has put out a hit piece or threatened to in order to get him to stop
Stop what? This is all public knowledge.
Pablo does do good work, but people also buy way too much into his hype.
The league has been corrupt for decades.
SLAMS
ANNIHILATE
CLAPS BACK
Add on some more attention grabbing gibberish
Clickbait headline lol he’s literally just saying known information on here
Pablo about to accidentally fall out of a 10 story window
Did anyone watch the video? This is all public information
I don’t think anyone did, yet they’re quickly rushing to glaze the man.
All info that’s been rehashed on this sub even lol.
Trump strikes again. lol, these dudes really be on their knees a lot.
I want Pablo to go after the Trump admin; forget the NBA. Go find out what is in those Epstein files.
Another scandal has hit the NBA
Uh, sorry, what exactly did Pablo expose here?
So the Saudi money said we want out of the Mark Walters business and into the Iger/Kushner business so they move it from their left pocket to their right.
Pablo is just repeating things that were published elsewhere.
The guy is a good reporter but y’all are getting real weird about this.
Edit: Jesus fucking Christ these comments. We legitimately have no hope as a society.
I would say ‘MAKE PABLO THE COMMISSIONER!’ but the corrupt owners would never want that.
[deleted]
I still don’t get why people think Silver can do anything in these situations. He works for the owners. Might as well expect Luka to do something, or Austin Reeves or some other Laker employee. If the other owners don’t want anything done, he can’t act. And the Lakers setting yet another record for franchise value probably isn’t something owners care much about.
People just seem to have this fundamental misunderstanding of Silver’s role in all of this. He’s not some independent basketball authority running some NGO of basketball, he’s an employee of league owners given power to administer league affairs.
Ya know, been watching sports for decades but gradually less and less. Seen the ups and downs, the players that I’m familiar with are almost all gone, it might be time to stop over time.
After all it’s just entertainment, if the systems start to increasingly disgust you then what’s the point?
The close connection between gambling and sports makes it much worse too, imo.
Daddy Kushner was a crook who was put in jail by Chris Christie of all people.
The Kushners have always been crooks.
The ultra-rich fucking love the idea of American pro sports teams: 1. Revenue sharing; 2. Salary caps; 3. Government funding for stadiums and transportation; 4. Captive audiences with almost nowhere to turn for food and drink for 3 hours; 4. Guaranteed income from media rights; 5. Attention.
What exactly did he expose?
“”Fracking the Fans”” pin this phrase for later
He was already able to find this much info in such a short amount of time. Imagine he put all his energy for a few months on this. Oooof
This was all easily available lol. Covered by severe news sites
We should be trying to make the lakers lose money. Stop watching, stop going to games, stop supporting. Completely unsustainable if we all worked together.
I’m glad I got to witness and celebrate a Knicks championship before the entire professional sports infrastructure of the world imploded in on itself like a black hole.
On it’s own, I might’ve thought it a coincidence. But with how many shady and illegal things this admin has done, it’s sus as fuck.
What’s the TLDR? I can’t listen rn
So the Kushners got kicked outta Albania and decided to team up with Disney to buy the Lakers lol
Fuck Adam Silver for allowing all these slimy ass people to buy beloved franchises.
Guy is a real investigative journalist. They are a scarce breed.
