Well none of it’s whistling, he’s doing a lot of really insane vocal cord stuff. On that common loon call he has a really clean break from his thick vocal folds to thin folds, the same type of thing employed in yodeling. For most of the high pitched sounds like the cardinal, he’s basically doing a really quiet “screaming” type of thing (physically would feel like it’s coming from the back of the throat I believe), it’s very cool.
I need to see this dude as the lead for a death metal band
I think it will be interesting to see how his voice develops, considering he’s not had it drop from puberty yet by the sounds of it. That kind of thing usually severely messes with vocal control so he may outright lose the ability to mimic some species with the methods he currently uses, or he might be able to keep training them in.
