Like, I get the idea but this actually isn’t nearly as compelling as you think.

In the year Durant averaged 32 and won MVP Westbrook played less than half of the games, and KD’s scoring went up. I will give you Paul George. The Beal one is fools gold, because the year before he averaged over 30 PPG, and in 2021 that team was terrible and their offense was like middle of the pack. The Jokic example is particularly odd as Jokic averaged his highest points and assists I believe, and Westbrook was a role player. Harden disproves your point in a way, he went from 36 PPG to 34 PPG with the addition of Westbrook. LeBron is an especially odd one, because think of the context - AD gets hurt and LeBron tries to carry the Lakers but their record sucked and their team offense was in the 20’s…and Westbrook was a role player. Not to mention the whole “LeBron hadn’t scored 30 since Cleveland” well yeah look at the offensive talent he played with (Wade and Bosh, Love and Kyrie, AD in 2020), so when AD goes down and they have almost nobody else to scorer LeBron scoring 30 isn’t shocking and I don’t think we can give Westbrook much credit for that.

And I mean I’m not trying to be rude but if the idea is Westbrook drives great offenses the only top 5 offensive teams he played on was with Kevin Durant (and I mean if we want to count role player Westbrook with Jokic then that). Just look at Houston…two years before they were number 1 and the year before they were 2nd. With Westbrook, it drops to 6th.

We’ll never know if this correlation is because Westbrook made them better / their lives easier, or if this correlation is because these players had to compensate for having Westbrook on the court.

Can confidently say kd and lebrons is the latter with how much heroics they had to play and how much kd iso’d when playing with Russ.

I mean, this points out that Russ played with some greats while they were still capable of being great, but he still never grabbed a ring. It almost frames it as him being the problem everywhere he went. For the record, I don’t think that’s the case.

As a player he had his flaws, everybody does. However, I’ll always appreciate how hard he worked. I loved his final act where he worked out super hard, was as fit as a 20 year old, and earned a few more seasons. The man played on a vet minimum contract for the love of the game.

I like that guy.
