It’s not all on the teams here lol. Luka hasn’t shown any willingness or ability to play efficient, winning basketball if he’s not the primary ball handler for the entire game. It would be one thing to play 37mpg and have possessions where he’s “just” standing in the corner, but it’s obviously completely different when he’s the one running all the plays.
If you can’t have him off-ball with AR and LeBron on your team, I don’t think it’ll ever happen.

Sounds like his father didn’t want him dependent on his right hand (for dribbling and some shots most likely - to get comfortable with both early so defenders couldn’t cheat) and to be equal on both and Simmons just decided shooting lefty was cool or something [some Inception level idea] despite it not being his natural hand. Redick TRIED to get him to switch… one of the greatest shooters in the NBA evaluated his shot and suggested it and he didn’t listen. He’s a lost cause.

It only happens in odd cases, like Billy Wagner busting his right arm twice at 7 years old, causing him to learn to throw left. But 7 is young enough where the neural connections are still playdough.
That’s because a lot of things are made for right handers so lefties have to adapt.
Most of the time the reason for other way around is some sort of injury. Like I broke my hand and switched to using a computer mouse left handed and never switched back. I’ve also always used a kitchen knife with my left (among a few other things) too, though, so I’m probably not entirely righty.
Tbf that’s how I play baseball. Bat lefty, throw righty. Also, left foot dominant but write my my right hand 🤷♂️

I don’t think you need to be a good shooter. I think he could have been fine the way he was his whole career. What fucked him up was his free throw shooting. At some point he was afraid to get fouled and go to the line.
Prime Ben Simmons was scoring really well in the paint and it made defenses collapse. He was really good at kicking out to shooters too. But since he’s been afraid to get fouled, he basically stopped shooting any type of shot and became a total zero with the ball in his hands.
Not to mention the back issues and maybe the worst slander Ive ever seen in sports. All that combined with probably not LOVING basketball like most who make the league do.
His biggest issue was back health. He also had a falling out with his team. He had a lot of on the court issues too, but his elite defense and playmaking would have been enough to keep him on the court. He was always a bad shooter, so I wouldn’t really attribute that to him leaving.
And what did he have a falling out with his team about? I like how you just casually slipped this in there like it wasn’t a huge story that was 100% Ben Simmons acting like a huge bitch baby toddler because he refused to take any accountability for himself.
Bruh I’m a hawks fan I’m not defending Ben Simmons. We’re talking about why he isn’t in the league now. The falling out was a huge story, but plenty of teams were still willing to take a chance on him. The primary reason is absolutely his back.

he used to have explosive speed and could get to the hoop to score that way, but then he messed up his back and needed multiple surgeries, so he lost that burst and started avoiding all contact at all costs, meaning he could no longer defend or rebound either (in addition to no longer being able to score)
but people desperately wanted to make it about mental health instead of broken backs
but hey, if you want a player who can’t score or defend or rebound or jump or run then ben simmons is your guy
