Kevin Durant is now the last remaining player drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the NBA
Russell Westbrook was drafted number 4 by the Supersonics in the 2008 NBA draft.
Kevin Durant was drafted number 2 by the Supersonics in the 2007 NBA draft.
KD def gonna stay in the league as long as it takes to rejoin the SuperSonics
Probably the only franchise that’ll fully embrace him if he does
Do the Warriors not?
Most of us are still cool with him. Most of us would have gladly taken him back when he looked to leave Phoenix, despite all the weird social media stuff.
The Warriors subreddit is really fucking weird about him though.
They probably do but KD doesn’t want to go back there
He made a big move going to GS, thought it would make him happy, and got endless abuse for it. The abuse is still ongoing (“snake”, “weakest move ever”, “fake rings”). For someone who is terminally online like KD, it’s hard to believe that didn’t affect him. You can split his career into two halves where he’s the loyal-to-a-fault lovable small market star in OKC for the first half. Then he decides to be selfish for once in his life and it backfires spectacularly from a PR standpoint. Everything since then feels like compensating.
When GS tried to get him away from Phoenix, he made some lame ass excuse about how he didn’t want to be traded in the middle of the season. My theory is that he just doesn’t want to go back to GS because it’s connected to all the online abuse and he didn’t want to relive that. I don’t really hold that against him.
As the other poster said, there are some weirdos in the fandom who try to make Steph vs. KD a thing. For most people who support the team, he’s associated with a very fun era for the franchise when they dominated everybody and won everything. You can’t hate him for that run, especially when he put his Achilles on the line in 2018 and paid a steep price for it.
I look at it like an extended version of Deion Sanders on the 49ers. He joined a powerhouse, they crushed everybody, and it was fun af while it lasted. You can’t hold any ill will about it.
I won’t say it has nothing to do with him being labelled a “snake”, but I think that has a lot more to do with him trash talking his teammates in fan groupchats and on alt accounts vs him joining GSW.
He achieves nothing by going back to GSW. Even if they went on to win another ring it would just cement that he couldnt win one without Steph. He will get money wherever he goes, he plays for legacy now, and only thing to push him further/add to his legacy is to win outside of Warriors/some super team. If he could lead the team to a ring or just be 1B but to a younger guy where KD takes majority of the scoring load would be great for his narrative. Going back to GSW would be the worst thing for him. So just play couple more seasons trying to see if the luck smiles at him, if not just go back to Sonics to finish career there/get jersey retired etc
That Superbowl against San Diego was like a Globetrotters game for the 49ers
Really depends what you mean by embrace
Lived in the bay during the KD era and most warriors fans I knew held guys like Iguodala and Livingston in higher regard than KD
weird
Constantly taking shots at the franchise GOAT will certainly help lose that luster
For a long time, I would have loved him back. However, at some point, the amount of shade he threw at the Warriors franchise and players left a sour taste in my mouth. Him veto-ing the trade from Phoenix to the Warriors was the last straw for me personally since it meant he REALLY did not want to come back even with how bad the situation in Phoenix was.
No, they really hate him for some reason. Resentful that one of the best to ever play wanted to play for their team.
We never “fully” embraced him. Because he joined a team filled with home-grown stars. He was always a hired gun. But we appreciated his contribution. Now he’s just a bitter old bitch. If he came here and we somehow won a chip I would appreciate it. If he came here and nothing improved he can fuck right off. And I don’t hink old ass diva KD is putting us over the top anymore.
The guy helped your team win some rings and killed his reputation for you all and this is how some of you treat him. It is just a game and you talk about someone like they’re a horrible human because of it.
It’s the things he says and does.
Yet you say things like that about someone you have never met. How are you any better?
Are you suggesting you have to meet a person who says and does a lot of things publicly to have an opinion about them? How do you decide who to vote for? Do you go meet every candidate?
Meanwhile Cavs fans burned LBJ jerseys when he left for Miami, only to repurchase them a short while later.
Oh no, god forbid someone checks notes win basketball games!
Why don’t the Nets?
KD absolutely did his best for that team, he played really really well when Kyrie and Harden were fucking about and even with the toes has the greatest shot in modern Nets history
Warriors already said they’re retiring his jersey in 2019
I mean would they? I feel like there would be a lot of people switching from OKC to the Supersonics. And I don’t think I need to explain why they would be sour lol
deadass we’re probably the only fanbase that still likes KD
which is sad because we dont even really exist
The Sonics will always exist!
Rooting for you guys to get your team back asap
I know more Sonics fans than Clipper fans if that makes you feel any better.
Unpopular opinion, as a nets fan i still love KD
And also burn his remaining goodwill there KD-style one last time?
Totally forgot Jeff green was traded on draft night
Yep, he was a celts draft pick
The Bobcats went on 6 years after the Sonics and the only guys left to ever play for the Bobcats (Biyombo and Temple) have been end of bench veteran mentors and nothing more for half a decade. And neither of those guys are under contract now either.
KD’s longevity is insane
I think KD is already top 5 longevity ever and obviously only climbing. Bron, Malone, Kareem obviously have better longevity so far but KD could easily be your 4th slot (and Steph is also right there probably at 5. Obviously Steph is older and better but he also started so much later that the total amount of all-time level seasons is lower)
I’d fully believe in 5 years we say KD is the 2nd best longevity ever only to LeBron
Kareem is obviously still in the discussion as well
For sure, I think it depends on how long KD keeps up the current volume. Right now, in terms of his age when he was playing, Kareem was around 22 PPG, but he also was having much less offensive load so I think thats fair to say is similar to KD’s mid/high 20s.
But after the next season in terms of KD, Kareem’s fell off and his last few seasons were very limited. I would say in order for KD to surpass Kareem in terms of longevity, he needs one more season as good as this last one, and then at least one more really great season, and then to play 2 more years at least at a decent starter level.
Obviously that is all super subjective tho, and you could also use the argument against Steph against Kareem if you wanted, which is that Kareem entered later and so had less total seasons. I personally wouldn’t use that argument though, since I think you just gotta judge relative to the standards of their time and in the 60s/70s most rookies started at 22ish, so it isn’t fair to hold that against Kareem, but if someone wanted to I’d hear that case
I’d argue KD’s longevity is better than Kiddy-diddler Malone, given level of production after the same number of seasons. Granted, once he joined the Lakers in 03/04, the guy who put the “pedophile” in “pick and roll” had a reduced role due to the Lakers’ stacked roster. But KD has played with plenty of other stars in his career.
I think thats definitely a fair argument
Steph is better? At what.
Basketball.
Have you watched the last 5 years?
You mean where KD has been hopping Teams, crashing and burning, while Steph won a Title, Finals MVP and Scoring Champ? Those 5 years?
Pick the better player
.459 fg% / .401 3p% / .923 ft% / 4.7rb / 5.6ast / .4bl / 1stl
.539 fg% / .408 3p% / .867 ft% / 6.2rb/ 4.5ast / 1.2bl / .7stl
Lmao dude really used FG% as the first stat for a Steph Curry comparison. Using FG% in 2026 for a primarily 3pt shooter vs a mid range shooter is hilarious.
Holy cherrypicking. Kd is almost a foot taller as well
Shooting ball through hoop = cherry picking stats
TIL
You literally didnt include the stat based off of shooting the ball though the hoop?
All but midrange and defense (though that depends)
KD has better stats in everything except free throws and steals…
I truly hope we never get another team moved out of their hometown
Besides the Clippers
Back to San Diego, they never should have left.
after a few years there it’s back to Buffalo where giants like McAdoo and Ernie D braved the snow to roam the hardwood…
They can finally retire that Tony Gwynn number.
I hear Buffalo is a great sports town. Maybe they can go back to their ancestral home?
I mean. The Clippers have moved a lot.
Their history is littered with old hometowns.
Its going to happen sooner or later; looking at you Sacramento!
Memphis is most likely at this point
The grizzlies hometown is Vancouver
And they’d be welcomed back there
Best I can do is Ottawa
Nashville is the more likely outcome I think
memphis fans hate to hear this but nashville would treat that team well. snowbunny capital of the worldddd
Wtf we do?
I mean you are the team that’s moved the most while retaining the same continuity ie the Rochester Royals up to present as the Sacramento Kings with, like, three moves off the top of my head in Omaha, Cincinnati and Kansas City
Sacramento isn’t losing the team anytime soon lol
Jeff Green will find his way to a team soon enough
Mr. Green was drafted by Boston
Is he not on the Rockets roster?
In terms of Russ’s longevity, there are only 10 other NBA players who were on a roster through the end of the last season who came into the league in 2008 or earlier.
Here is a quiz if you want to try to guess them all. Multiple have now retired in the offseason.
Kevin Durant: r1 p2 Carl Landry: r2 p31 Glen “Big Baby” Davis: r2 p35
Is Brook Lopez the last active New Jersey Nets player?
Yes. I thought maybe they were still the NJN when they drafted Mason Plumlee (who played last season) but I checked and they were already Brooklyn Nets then, Mason was the first BKN pick and every player the Nets drafted before him has retired other than Lopez.
Brook has been the only NJ drafted player left since 2022 when Favors retired.
Russ & KD never quit on the Sonics. howard was the quitter and will never be forgiven.
You think KD plays long enough to play for the Sonics again when they come back?
2008-09 was first year in OKC
The move happened after the draft
2008 was a nice draft for them too, getting Ibaka
Did Jeff Green retire?
He was drafted by the Celtics. I thought the same thing and double checked
I always forget Jeff Green is a Celtics draft pick (cause he was immediately traded to the Sonics for Ray Allen).
I’m glad I didn’t miss Jeff Green’s retirement announcement. Although he hasn’t signed with anyone yet this offseason. Maybe Maccabi Tel Aviv is interested.
If he actually finally went back to DC and led them even just to a Finals appearance (dont even have to win) his legacy would be enhanced like 100x overnight.
my cousin still talks about sonics all the time
I hope it works timeline wise for him to rejoin. If Seattle gets a team next year I wonder how long it will take to get the arena ready.
Did I miss the Jeff Green retirement?
Drafted by Boston
my bad i lost the plot btwn drafted and played for
Has Jeff Green officially retired?
Drafted by the celtics then traded to the sonics
Did KD spend a year in Seattle? I thought he went straight to OKC. So, are you saying Seattle actually drafted Russ or they technically drafted Russ as OKC?
KD played a season as a supersonic. Westbrook was drafted the following year right around the time that the team relocated
Gotcha. Thx! Crazy it was almost 20 years ago now for sure.
Freddie Brown > KD
