It takes a certain prism to see the world through, and while all players witness many things they probably don’t see them as interesting. When Open Court was a thing I didn’t like them changing the original season 1 guys, but the ones they brought in like Nique had a ton of stories.
But even in season 1 you could tell that they started off with retelling the famous moments and then as the episodes slowly progressed they’d also get more comfortable sharing a bunch of “trivial” things that they’d realize were weird. I bet you most of them if not everyone on that panel was slowly realizing for the first time ever, that the things they witnessed would sound amazing to tell.

I think for somebody who’s about giving max effort, it doesnt matter if you win or lose; you’ve already won AND had fun by giving max effort. And I imagine with that comes the core belief and confidence that if you do that, the wins will come.
Perhaps certain efforts put forth by Westbrick shouldn’t have been prioritized over winning.

Westbrook can’t really help that he has a high motor but also low BBIQ. He probably spends his extra time working on physical training or practicing at the gym since he doesn’t understand the intricacies of the game to get much from studying film.

Never paid him too much attention as a hooper, but he’s all time as a podcaster.
Every basketball player has a podcast now and they all want to tell cool stories, which is fine, but Jeff is one of the only ones who is willing to let himself be the punchline

Smaller role than he thought he would? When he got to Minnesota, he started every game and played more minutes than he had in 5 years. Was he expecting to fly the team plane too?
The real issue is that he just wasn’t that good. The original D’Lo prototype. He didn’t play better because he wasn’t capable of it.
He played great his first season with us. Especially down the stretch after Butler went down. The years after that were so garbage I don’t know how anyone can blame any one person.

The process of doing the same thing over and over again can be soul numbing? That applies to countless jobs that don’t pay a fraction of the salary.
Yeah realistically a lot of us regular people are doing something on a spectrum to “I hate this and it’s killing me literally” to “this is soul-numbing but its a good enough fit and pays the bills”

Yea, I mean, that’s not true. People will break their backs to do shit they hate just to take care of the people they love. So many people are doing less glamours jobs than being a pro athlete and getting paid far less as well doing shit they absolutely hate,hell, some might not even know that’s why they’re miserable every day.
Another factor is money, they might like basketball but the driving factor is that it pays very well. So yea, if they’re in HS and everyone is saying they got what it takes, recruiters are all over them they might as well continue on because the payout is worth it (even more now with NIL money). I mean, I don’t love IT but it’s what I do and I have a pretty good work ethic, plus I like to help people, so I’m good at my job the money isn’t bad either and that’s mainly why I’m still doing in this field, money and taking care of my family.
So they do it because they care about taking care of the family. The why doesn’t matter.
