Teaming up was the worst mistake of both their careers.
LeBron ruined his chances at another ring by trading away a championship roster for a supposed Big 3 to combat the Nets.
Westbrook completely ruined his reputation, the vitriol from Lakers fans was insane. Although I’m in the camp that it was mostly deserved because he was making $50M, refusing to listening to coaches, taking terrible shots, and was ultimately a cancer in the locker room.
Sometimes the thing that seems like an obvious bad idea, is actually an obvious bad idea.
It’s unfortunate that Russ and Bron wasted those precious years.

Pelinka was going to pull the trigger for Buddy Hield until LeBron and AD lobbied for Russ, but apparently LeBron really wanted DeMar DeRozan (which got leaked during 2022 All-Star Weekend, in which DeRozan was an All-Star starter).
Either way, Lebron/AD/Klutch didn’t force Pelinka to include a first rounder for Russ. Show me any other team offering that much.

Then the season after that, when all 4 of those guys were gone, their centers rotation was AD, Wenyn Gabriel, Deandre Jordan, and Melo/Bron lmao.
Well they won with AD, Dwight, Rondo and others. Rondo didn’t re-sign with the Lakers. Dwight didn’t re-sign with the Lakers. There were a lot of injuries after the extremely short offseason, nevermind the Solomon Hill thing that took out LeBron. Lakers front office freaked out and blew up the team.
They signed a washed Melo, who was forced to play center half the time lol. They traded their role players for Westbrook — other reporting said they were going for Buddy Hield or DeMar, that didn’t pan out so they went the Westbrook route. Westbrook was both a bad team fit on the Lakers but also played horribly lol, go watch lowlights of the wild passes he threw into the stand, or all the dunks he missed because he couldn’t jump high enough/lost the ball on the way up.
A season later, they fired their championship coach Vogel and replaced him with Ham, who was supposed to be the Westbrook whisperer. Dwight also came back later, but he was super washed.

Yes there were reports before the trade saying LeBron, AD and Russ having private dinner at Bron’s house discussing how they could make this work.
There’s also reports saying that Lebron/AD initially wanted Derozan, but the lakers didn’t want to give Demar a 3 year contract, so they pivoted to Westbrook.
I mean most people have had ideas that didn’t pan out and then stopped trying to make it work.
