Russell Westbrook’s full retirement announcement. Narrated by Michael B Jordan
MITWestbrook - your watch is finally ended
We’ll see you in Valhalla
This will never get old
But yo seriously we might have to call in a wellness check on bro
Turning Point USA about to get sponsorship deal with Lakers to have their patch on Lakers jerseys next season lol
Charlie Kirk about to be a logo
Salute!
Every team’s sub will be on blast for not signing him now
nah it’s revisionist history time
rose colored glasses time
Oh we talking about Kobe again?
What a legacy. I really hope he is remembered by his prime. He was unreal.
His legacy will be his MVP year, busting his ass in OKC after Durant abandoned them. Some real fun basketball to watch.
He gave his all that season .. left every drop of sweat and blood on that court .. never will forget that buzzer beater against the nuggets and breaking the triple double record that very night
WHAT A PERFECT ENDING
TO A HISTORIC DAY
GOAT call
Was just talking to a coworker about that game. Prime Russ was scary AF.
Just made a comment about that historic game in another post about his retirement. One of the best games I’ve ever seen out of any sport.
You couldn’t have scripted a better end to that season if you had tried. Last game against the nuggets, for whom it was an elimination game. He breaks the triple double record, but they’re down by 14 with 4 minutes to go and they claw back and he hits a buzzer beater 3 to win it. Couldn’t believe the appreciation he got in Denver that night despite him knocking them out. I still watch highlights from that game time to time
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLwLoicdKsI
I was at that game and even as a Nuggets fan I couldn’t help but smile. It just feels special to witness a legendary game in person.
That’s the thing I LOVE about attending live sports. Every once in a while, you see something that you know will go down in legend.
2017 really encapsulates the whole Westbrook experience. The Herculean carry job into first round playoff loss.
The true biggest what if in NBA history isnt D.Roses legs, or Len Bias
Its what if that thunder team stayed together
With the leaps that Westbrook and Harden took after, its not crazy to think that team could have been as good as the dynasty warriors (the 73 win season aside, thats still obscene)
I mean if they stick together there’s a good chance the Warriors don’t get to 73 wins
Damn that was a decade ago..
I remember keeping track of his triple doubles during his MVP season when the triple double record was considered one of the “untouchables.” Good times.
History will definitely remember Russ well.
I think he’ll be remembered for his prime. When we talk about AI, we talk about how cold he was on Philly / early Denver. I’m sure people will bring up how bad the Lakers run went with it being attached to Lebron; but Westbrook will be remembered mean mugging from the free throw line to the rim in a Thunder jersey.
Appointment viewing at one time
He will be, the statpadder stuff will stay with him, but everyones “bad years” get forgotten after a bit of time passes
prime Westbrook was a force of nature. just felt like he was always playing at 200% intensity.
18 seasons being a PG is an incredible career. His athleticism obviously dropped off the last couple years but 18 seasons is nothing to sneeze at. Accomplished everything you could besides a chip.
And his athleticism today is still more than enough to stay in the league, its all the other skills that aged badly. Too bad
I really thought that he and the nuggets looked good, shame it was only a season.
He may have had his ups and downs in the season but he was a DAWG in the playoffs. Really wish we could’ve brought him back… we needed that energy this year, and he’s still our there meeting up with Gordon and Watson.
I loved Nuggets Westbrook. Kinda felt like he had found his team during that time. Kinda went back to his roots a little and had that corner 3 down.
The biggest killer of his career was his shooting.
He became unplayable when he didnt made the 3 pointers as role player.
If he played next season he’d genuinely still be in the conversation for the most athletic point guard in the league.
I wish he and CP3 had their last farewell season after they gave the game and fans so much over the years
Legend for sure, also Legendary way of retiring.
Hall of Famer
He was already named to the All-Time top 75 list so yes he’s a first ballot shoo-in. Hopefully OKC retires his #0 as well
It will be retired, and he will have a statue.
What will his statue be doing? I hate OKC, but a recreation of that deep three he hit off the Steven Adams purposely-missed FT would be nice
The dunk over thon pose or the deep MVP three on denver would be my guess. But that adams play would be a great one to put in bronze.
The three is an iconic play but when I think prime Westbrook, I will always first imagine how he tries to murder the rim with one-handed tomahawks.
It’s one of my favorite plays ever is why it came to mind. Now I’m watching Westbrook career highlights lol
I’ve always been partial to this picture of him
Patented Westbrook snarl for sure
I doubt it, one finals appearance and only one MVP. OKC only retires greats like Collison
never forget the best player to wear 35 for OKC too, PJ Dozier
Collision is retired by OKC? Maybe Im having amnesia but that’s kind of crazy and cool. lol
I get what the thinking is but seeing a guy who averaged 5.9⁄5.2 as a big is hilarious at the same time. Solid defensively though.
Kyle Singler erasure
Zero in this case means the origin. The team first guy with zero quit. OKC couldn’t do better for a cultural anchor.
KD was always the best player on our team in that era, but Russ was the heart and soul of the team and made OKC, a town that only cared about college football, a basketball town too. I taught there for a few years during the KD Westbrook era and so many kids were into basketball because of him. Just as many had him as their favorite as KD.
If Russ ain’t a hall of famer no way im making it
Easily
Thanks Magic
Russ must have been thinking about retirement for a while after the season ended. What a great video. Can’t wait to see what good he can accomplish now with his philanthropist foundation.
I suspect he was. I also think his only option last season was the Kings. Had another team approached him, he’d be on a roster, but the NBA market also pushed him in this direction. Nonetheless, one of the all-time great careers is done.
Wizards offered him too
I’d retire too
Bullets catching strays
everyone sad he’s not in the league but everyone is glad he’s not on their team. says all you need to know.
He could’ve came to minny as a back up and I’d be happy
Damn bro people are so miserable and can’t just stop and appreciate someone for being great
Man was one of the only players who consistently gave a damn on the shit-ass Kings last year
Thanks for the memories Russ
Russ always gave a shit. He was always great, even if his performance wasn’t. Nothing but love for the man. Glad the Kings fans got to see him, even during a tough season.
Ps- I know he had tons of amazing performances. I was referring to end of career.
I never really got the hate for him. I live in Portland and Blazers fans have a deep hate for him. I always thought he was entertaining and fun to watch.
Pepple complain players mail in games and Westbrook played hard everyday and got hated for it…
Hatefulness flows through people that are miserable and people who are jealous… plenty of those around
I feel like that Lakers stint really tanked his PR
damn my heart hurt bro
i genuienly started crying man. I’ll never forget what I saw in 2016-17.
One of my all-time favourite players. No one brought more energy to the court than Russ.
That goes hard! Hell ya Brodie! Thanks for your stop here, you were a badass, unique talent, and fun as hell to watch!
I rolled my eyes when I scrolled and saw this and I thought it was great by the end. Well done.
Thank you for everything Russ.
Most important thing anyone named Michael Jordan has ever done for basketball
Your move, Lebron B. James.
LeBron “Bronny” James, the Laker??
People are going to remember the name
Chills. Thanks Russ 🫡
One of the last players to really give his all night in and night out. Never questioned his effort and was a guy teammates loved for a reason. Great career
Nothing needs to be said. Westbrook made me a Thunder fan. OKC owes him everything.
One of the greatest players of his era and one of the most exciting and fun players to watch.
He played a huge role in building OKC into a place where players want to be and a team that fans want to cheer for.
No way subject is a fellow Raptors fan. I hate this discovery lol
One of the players I’ll never forget, probably my favourite non Piston ever, and one of the most unique players of all time.
One of the guy that kept my love for the game alive
One of the truly electrifying players who could get you out of your seat and pump you up.
Amazing career.
This is actually so sad. Dude was one of the main guys that got me into basketball as a whole. Has to be up there with one of my favourite players of all time.
What a player and what a dude. Wishing him all the best in retirement. So weird to see Westbrook and retired in the same sentence. I genuienly thought he was going to play forever. Feels like yesterday I was watching his MVP highlights and arguing against Durant on the court.
Again what a player. End of an Era.
I’m so glad for everyone that was wrong, that the league would force his retirement. He chose for himself. Good for him. He has way too many haters. His lakers time wasn’t great but so what, the man has an impressive storied career. He deserves his dues.
Edit: his video last season where they asked if he was gonna hang it up, and everyone took his response as his fighting spirit saying he wants more.
I watched that video & saw a guy staring down something he was well aware was right in front of him. Something he just wasn’t quite ready to admit to the media & fans yet.
He looked down & away, with no eye contact, and just quietly said “Yeah, right.” Nothing fierce or spirited about it. It just seemed very telling.
Go watch it again, I’m telling ya. I’ve never understood what else people were seeing in that clip.
No one wanted to sign him. He didn’t choose himself, it got chosen for him.
You got downvoted but it’s true
There will NEVER be another play like him. Love him or hate him and I love him like a brother. I’ll be running highlights all day long. My favorite.
Love him or hate him and I love him like a brother
Reminds me of Pete Weber right before his last roll “love me or hate me, you watched. It’s all that you could do”
I can totally see Russ yelling “Who do you think you are I am”
the reason i got back watching the nba around 2017 after years of not caring too much… thanks for the delight that was seeing you play russ
Say what you want about him.
in an era with load mangment and player phoning it in the regular season
Westbrook always played when he could and always gave everything he got.
I remember playing 2k back in the day I would always play with the Thunder and Russ was my favorite. I never understood the hate and wish him the best on whatever he does next.
Damn what I sad way to go out
I would have thought the thunder would have signed him just to give him his flowers. But oh well
One of my favorite PGs of all time and is one of a kind
We won’t see another Russ for long time.
At least he got to choose when to step away, and ended his career as the best player on his last team:)
And not injured
Definitely one of the most entertaining players to watch! Will be missed!
I’m going to say it one last time
Russ>KD
In terms of ease of rooting for? Absolutely.
What playing for the kings does for a mf
Back when Sportscenter used to actually show highlights, there was this UCLA guard named Westbrook who was always on SC Top 10 every week posterizing some poor Pac-10 player.
That was how I first noticed him. He was coming off the bench for Darren Collison at the time. Russ kept playing the same way for 20 years and his drive never slowed down, awesome career and will have legendary highlights to show his grandkids one day
Hurt 😫
I hope only terrible things happen to that old fucker skip.
That was dope! Hell of a career.
Thanks for the entertainment Russ. It didn’t always go your way, but I never doubted how hard you tried.
One of my favorite players sad to see him go
Hall of Famer - 1st ballot baby. Thanks Russ.
He never suited up for my favorite team but he is one of my favorite player of all time. He was always worth the price of admission when he came into town.
Smashed the career triple-double record which I thought would never get broken.
THE KING OF THE PRAIRIE
I love Westbrook. Win or lose you always knew he was going to come out like a madman.
Self producing and starring in a retirement video you paid someone to produce to hype up your legacy is weird.
and so the elusive Supersonic Westbrook jersey becomes even more elusive…
Who writes these things?
Mr. Triple Double. It was an honor.
Dude couldn’t even get Michael A. Jordan.
No more Westbrick memes
They’re hurtful and they’re destructive.
thats pretty dope having micheal jordan announce this
Thank you subject property
Lmao I kept waiting to hear Michael Jordan’s voice
“On your own terms”
Sure…
Very glad I got to experience Westbrook on my own team even at the twilight of his career. A guy that I always admired for his effort and explosiveness. His biggest weakness was that he couldn’t turn off his motor and that alone is something to be appreciated. Insanely entertaining player in his prime and had one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever seen in a player. Absolute dog and 1st ballot hall of famer. Enjoy retirement Brodie, what a ride.
I regularly look up his highlight reel of dunks, specifically driving full court and slamming it harder than maybe anyone else has. Doing it at his height is insane, and he’s still more athletic than a lot of the league.
I’m not crying you are
Mr triple double. Mr why not
Mr triple double
Russ was one of my favourites when he started. Helluva run Brodie
It ain’t for all that. Just retire and call it a day
It took me way too long watching this video going “man this is what michael jordan sounds like these days? Theres no way, im so confused”
Only players jersey I’ve owned that never played a game for my team.
LOOOOOOOL
Wow
He played almost 20 years
Random tangent but you know how every sporting event has that one stupid caveat about streaming or using the contents of the NBA without their consent or whatever? I wonder if this video goes against that and the NBA just turns a blind eye towards it or if the players first get permission lol. Could you imagine Russel Westbrook posts this and twitter/NBA takes it down for copyright infringement lol
That was nice! i think he is going out in the right way for sure. Happy for him
Great career
Hope you have a good retirement Russ
Love you, Westbrook!
Oh wow. At least he was able to go out on his own terms. Westbrook doesn’t strike me as a “retirement tour” type of guy, so this is a nice touch.
I was kinda hoping there wouldn’t be an “untitled” episode about him, but I respect that he retired like this. I don’t think folks would’ve criticized him for “ring chasing,” but he didn’t wanna do that anyway.
This goes hard ngl
I’m sad Brodie’s run is ending. He played with so much heart from beginning to end. Dealt with so much unnecessary hate. And by all accounts was a complete gem of a human off the court as well. Looking forward to his next chapter.
What a career for Brodie! HOF coming. F the haters.
Why not?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVtER-e-cw4
Tks for all the heart and effort you put on the court, Russ. You made many of us love basketball 🫡
Truly an icon of the game!
One of the most electric players of all time. This dude gave it all every single time he stepped out there. Thank you BRODIE
All the best Westbrook!
Go enjoy the farm!
I really loved that farm…
For all his faults he was a hell of an electric player. I don’t think we’ll see another like him.
I work for an education nonprofit and recently participated in a Career Fair at one of his Westbrook Academy campuses here in LA. I was only there for a day, but I was really impressed by the school and the caliber of what they’re doing there. Made me respect him in a new way.
Imma shed a tear when they retire that jersey in OKC
I honestly think he has a couple more years in him. But his kids are at that really fun age so it makes sense. Full-Time dad mode activated
I’m crying in the club
Westbrick
Sneaky excellent pick on 82-0 for his Wizards run. Something like 22/11/11.
Can’t help but feel that his time in LA accelerated this. Either way Russ is a total badass.
My favorite Westbrook mixtape
Gonna miss his dunks man
See ya, Brodie! It’s been real blast, wish you the best and hope to see you again!
Damn. 😢
One of the GOAT for “yes yes yes no no no you piece of … yeesssssssss” players.
Who will this sad as sub have to hate on for everything now? End to great career
I wish and was hoping he would get his first championship ring with Clippers.
Monkey’s paw wish for Russ as a rookie: “I hope Michael Jordan narrates my retirement video.”
*Westbrick.
His averaging a triple double has gotten so underappreciated and buried. It’s fucking insane and he did it 4 FUCKING TIMES.
Only 3 people in the history of the league and he did it 4 times… that’s crazy.
Sonics legend.
Brody
Dam, im really going to miss Brodie. One of the most honest, genuine caring dudes the league has ever seen. Never lost sight of who he was.
I’ll never forget an interview where he talked about his parents working and saying “I buy them everything, their job is to relax and enjoy life. For all they went through, for how hard they worked.”
lakers fan even tho he played terrible here, its cool that he played for the lakers
Not many people can say they were an NBA MVP.
He is one of them. And they can never take that away from him.
He was one of the most explosive point guards I’ve ever seen. Dude was a freak athlete. When he drove from the perimeter you just knew he was about throw down from wherever he took off. Really fun player to watch in his prime.
I won’t remember you by what everyoke called you as a stat padder, I’ll remember you as someone who played with the greatest chip on their shoulder in my lifetime. Love you Brodie
What a sad day in hoops
Last of a dying breed. I have started to care (and remember) less and less names in this soft and increasingly unwatchable NBA.
Brodie was the last player I followed that played with heart and put his body on the line… and seemingly in a softening league, maybe the last we know.
He brought that fire and served it up to your face. He had many faults and shortcomings, sure… but I will miss him and his competitive spirit. Rest of these cats are just flopping and flailing around. They are playing with the fear of injury so they can extend their career and paychecks…
Professionals who are scared of the nature of their own profession. It is a contact sport, and Westbrook was not one to shy away from contact.
Old head here, was a Westbrook hater, but he finally won me over, not with the highlights, or the spectacular plays or ungodly stats, but with his passion for the game and his humbleness off the court.
Russ, you deserve the best. 👏
Dude was a beast. All the fast twitch fibers firing
So he’s becoming an architect or painter LoL 😆
So this leaves Serge Ibaka as the last person from the Sonics last draft class that has yet to retire and KD & Jeff Green the last active players from Sonics?
Incredible career and LA legend.
Honoured to have lived at the same time as Beastbrook. A fuckin force of nature on the court.
Special dude, I’m sure he’ll do well in future endeavors
The game will miss Westbrook enjoy retirement Brodie!
This is not fair
Love u Russ
Top two most explosive 6’3” and under players I’d ever seen (him and DRose), he really made the most of his career based on how raw his game was coming out of college.
Sad that that rivalry got cut short so early, but regardless of all the memes Russ should be proud of his body of work.
So what is the greatest thing he left behind that couldn’t fit into a museum? I thought his family based on what he has said in the past, but maybe I am misreading that part?
Triple double after triple double after triple double
Rock the cradle taunt, I’ll always remember that too
I love the game. I love Russ.
100% effort guy. That’s what made him different.
grading on a curve, all those effort guys out there…sorry you can’t claim 100.
