(a) We traded for Jimmy just last year – which has looked great when Jimmy+Steph have been on the court. The pairing has just been hampered by injury: Jimmy’s ACL in ‘26, and Steph’s hammy in ‘25. But it was a good faith swing at win-now.

(b) We went after Giannis and Lebron this year – neither pursuit worked out, but it’s not like the FO didn’t try.

The Wiseman pick made a lot of sense at the time – the lack of a dominant mobile big man next to Steph has been one of our biggest holes in recent years. He busted, but the logic was sound. Kuminga also made sense: drafting an athletic wing was sound logically as well. Same with Moody… and I’d say that pick actually hit, bc Moody blossomed into a solid starting wing before going down last year.

TL;DR: It’s not like the Warriors haven’t tried to improve around Steph. And no, a desperation move like 3-4 FRP for Jaylen Brown wouldn’t have been wise or help us win now.

Even now, our team if healthy is nice (with a magical health wand, Steph/Moody/Jimmy/Dray/KP is a great starting 5, and Podz/Melton/Gui/Yaxel/Horford is a great bench). But more importantly, it’s not like the team hasn’t tried. Sometimes you try to make moves and it just doesn’t work out… that’s sports.

They know that theres no way to win with the roster and assets they have. 38 year old steph curry with a worse supporting roster than Prime SGA and the Thunder is not winning a chip no matter what moves they make.

The Warriors front office did make moves to help Curry win. They were quite competitive after the Jimmy trade. They got Porzingis who can be a serious contributor when healthy. Won against the 2nd seed Rockets with that run ending with Curry getting hurt. Then Butler gets hurt the season after. Not their fault.

What has kinda fucked them is they obviously didn’t think he would be playing at a high level for so long, so they made suboptimal moves during the “two timelines” era that look really bad in hindsight. In the end, I don’t think it was unfair for them to be thinking about the roster after him. He was and still is at the age you expect him to drop off any time

I think they’re trying to win. If jimmy wasnt hurt, this is a legit contending nba team. They would just need health to maintain with KP mainly. 

They’ve got 0 options that could make them a legitimate contender anytime soon, especially none that wouldn’t make them even worse long term.

Being loyal to a fault can be a players biggest detriment even if it’s seen as respectable to some people for trying to win the noble way.

They see him as an asset to extract as much ROI as possible while they have him. Investing in a winning team around him will lower present and future ROI

Loyalty in sports exists but it’s a business lol.

I think my issue with the whole topic of loyalty is It’s totally fine for fans to prefer a player be loyal, but it isn’t necessarily an indication of how good or bad you are as a player just cuz you’re choosing to stay or to leave.

Eh, I think Steph’s iconic legacy is secured either way regardless of where he finishes his career. But I also would never trade him unless he asked to be moved. All on Steph at this point and like FMD says, even if GSW never wants to move him, Steph’s also earned the right to decide if he wants to try and contend while he’s still got some juice left in the tank to give.
