You’re at a bar… someone is bound to be on their phone and spoiling it.
You’re with a few friends… same thing.
Unless you’re by yourself, everything is usually spoiled. Even watching the broadcast has spoilers nowadays.
I’m not saying anyone ruined anything, but the moments were bigger and more collectively shared when everyone found out at the same time.

In a re-draft they could have taken:
1996 #11 pick = Kobe (was taken 13th) or Nash (taken 15th)
1998 #5 pick = kept Vince or taken Dirk (was taken #9)
2000 #5 pick = this draft was dog shit. Mike MIller was probably the best option here.
Most teams would probably be pretty happy if 2⁄3 picks hit like they did. Mike Miller was a real good pro. VC is a HoFer legit

A Shaq and CWebb front court had goat potential. One of the biggest, yet never mentioned, ‘what if’s’ in nba history.
Only if shaq didn’t push the FO to get Penny. Chris didn’t want to play the 5 and Shaq wanted the ball. Hindsight but Shaq leaves for LA (where he wanted to go from the jump) and Penny ends up injury riddled and traded. Talk about bad luck for an upstart franchise.
That team would most likely still lose to Hakeem’s Rockets, and Shaq would still bail to the Lakers in 96

Shaq left because the team owner was cheap and lowballed him, and Shaq wanted that LA glamour. The only thing that could have changed that was probably if the Magic won it all in 1995.

This was followed by giving Webber the stupidest contract in the history of sports (10 year deal with an out clause after 1, which led to the trade for Tom Gugliotta, + 3 1sts back.) Gugliotta was a decent player but no where close to Webber, and frankly I think he sandbagged when he was on the Warriors. He was traded to the T Wolves for rookie Donyell Marshall shortly after. Marshall was an OK but not great player. Cohan era Warriors basketball in a nutshell.

I think you don’t correctly understand the deal. First it was not 10 years, it was 15. But that is not the important part. You make it seem like Webber could just leave after 1 year. That is not the case. The option was just to make him a restricted free agent. There was no way the Warriors would have lost him after one year due to the contract. They would have been able to match anyones offer.
He was still under Warriors control which is why they were able to get 3 lottery picks back. They traded him because he and Nelson’s relationship was irreconcilable. If they really wanted to keep him, he would have had to have gone back to the Warriors.
what was the issue between him and nelson?
Webber claims Nelson treated him poorly. Nelson was an old school coach when it came to player interaction and that didn’t seem to appeal to Webber. Also, Nelson wanted to use Webber at center and he didn’t want to play majority time at the 5. They traded to get Seikaly at center so that Webber wouldn’t be the primary 5 anymore but Webber was still unhappy because they traded some of his friends to get Seikaly. Webber refused to report to start the season and the Warriors managed to win their first 8 games of the season without him so they eventually decided to trade him since they appeared to be doing fine without him. Chemistry completely fell apart after the trade though.
Sigh. It was a simpler time. A better time.

Pretty much impossible to say since Penny wasn’t Penny anymore by the time he was like 26. We never got to see what a true in his prime Penny looked like as the #1 option of his team.
His upside was. Unfortunately for him, his body didn’t cooperate.
CWebb was the best player on the Sacramento Queens - the best player in franchise history and led them to their highest high.

Realistically these leaks are only valuable for a short duration (until the commisioner announces it) and an even shorter expiration date. Makes sense to leak it for favours.

webber and divac worked pretty well. there have been some good 2-big pairings over the years, most recently the short AD-boogie duo
Divac didn’t dominate the ball and was a good passer. AD and Boogie took awhile to make it work, but both guys could hit outside shots and 3s. Webber could make those shots, but it wasn’t his game. Shaq and Webber would still be good, but not ideal like an inside/outside game ala shaq/Kobe, and shaq/penny
Magic attached the 96 and 98 picks to Scott skiles so Cleveland would take on his salary so that we could sign Horace grant. 98 pick turned into Vince Carter

Webber was an overrated entitled baby. He wanted to be coddled. Instead, HoF Coach Nellie tried to make a man out of him. Cwebb had his most efficient season under Nellie. Career highs in blks and fg% and won ROY. He demanded out of GS and didnt do squat at Washington despite playing on a frontline with Ben Wallace, Sheed, Juwan, Gheorge, Harvey and other all stars. He had amazing talent, but was not a winner. He was better in Sac, but was bad after 01-02. Sac had their best chance at an nba title in 03-04 when Webber was out with injury/suspension, but Cwebb came back at the end of the season and shot them out of the playoffs in another early exit.
This got the wheels rolling on a 15 year drought, plus losing our good coach not more than a year later
