[Fischer] Michael Porter Jr. and the Brooklyn Nets are unlikely to agree on a contract extension. Tyler Herro, Anthony Davis also among eligible players unlikely to sign an extension with their current teams.
Tyler def going try to go to LA.
Welcome to the Clippers!
I mean that would actually make sense. a lineup of Luka, Reaves and Herro would be Swiss cheese
Does a lineup of Garland, Herro and Wagler make any more sense?
For a team that’s perennially butt, it does.
You laugh now, butt not if they can sign the next big superstar free agent đ˛â˝ď¸đĽď¸
Too small for forward spot
They have to trade garland this year. Itâs the only thing that makes sense.
Honestly Luka playing like a 4 on defense would probably be better than him on the perimeter lol
⌠thatâs what he does??? Iâm so confused do any of you watch the games
They donât. They just call him a cone because some dipshit talking head said it.
[deleted]
Eh Reaves just made Ajay Mitchell look like a perennial all-star. His defense is utter ass
Lukas ability on defense is better than he gets credit for, his effort on defense is why he gets his bad reputation for it lol
Luka yeah Reaves not so much
Destined to be a part of the snowtime Lakers
Winter is coming
If we come to dominate the NBA like the white walkers did, and we lose to some random smol assassin (ahem Brunson), Iâm gonna lose my shit again.
Fuck that ending. Final season was horseshit.
Only if there is a blackout in game 7 but the refs are just like “play on!”
Eurobros?
No thanks.
wait why would brooklyn pass on mpj though
Trio of Luka, AR and Herro?
yea if MPJ gets the max and is up there with jaylen brown and cade we need another lockout.
Nobody is giving MPJ a 30% deal lmao.
Iâd be shocked if he even made 20%
MPJ is a classic “empty stats player”. He’ll put up numbers on a shitty team as the #1 guy, but you’re not winning shit if he’s one of your two or three best players. I would like to think front offices have gotten smarter about handing out terrible contracts, but I’m consistently proven wrong, so we’ll see.
He literally won as what the 4th best player and he theoretically could improve. Hes shown that he will gut it out through injury and rebound on a team that cares.
he wasnât the nuggets 3rd option?
Maybe on offense, but AG was the better player overall, so I’d say it’s corret that MPJ won as the 4th best player on the team.
I think MPJ could be the 2nd or 3rd best player on a championship team if he wasn’t scared to drive to the rim or fight for boards. When he fully commits to either, he’s absolutely dominant. I was bummed he never put it all together for extended periods of time in Denver
I think he will always have a bit of fear in driving to the rim with the whole back and foot thing
he is top five in rebound percentage as a wing every single year. its MPJ LeBron Amen Thompson up there every year with the other 2 spots rotating
i Don’t hink it’s fear , it’s that he’s physically disabled. take your left foot and tilt your toes down towards the ground then up towards your shin. he cannot do that motion. you can understand why that would make certain aspects of playing basketball difficult
2nd is a bit of a stretch
He was the third leading scorer and second leading rebounder in every single series when they won the championship, except the finals where he was 4th
A lot of people conflate modern aaron gordon , who is an excellent multitool offensive player with 2023 Aaron Gordon, who was mainly a lockdown defender and dunker spot guyâ. there were 0 people talking about him as the third best player on Denver until 2024 and 2025
Lol. MPJ is 28 my guy. He is who he is at this point. And yeah, he won as the 4th best option. What did I say? That you’re not winning shit if he’s one of your two or three best players. Where is the contradiction?
Didnât he win a championship as the 3rd best player on the nuggets? lol
He was clearly the 4th best player
Ok fine 3rd option then
Is this the part where you tell me what I meant with my words?
Empty stats means just offense
3rd best player and 3rd option is splitting hairs
Except, I’m the one who made the original statement and I chose those words very carefully. You don’t get to tell me what I meant. How incredibly asinine
Itâs still splitting hairs
Not in 2023. 3rd leading scorer and 2nd in rebounds in every series except finals. He was the undisputed 3rd option. Shirts and shit had the big 3 including MPJ. Come on dude, we arenât even half a decade away from the chip and the revisionist shit is starting.
I think heâs a good tertiary player still and can elevate a team there but you need the right team next to him.
Ironically given theyâre now teammates I think MPJ would be a good fit to replace Julius Randle next to Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert in Minnesota. I think 20% is his upper limit as far as his next deal goes.
He has a good 3p% and can obviously score in bunches but heâs a guy that needs a defensive center on the court.
is that why he has positive on/offs every season? he was 13th in offensive EPM? compare any advanced stat to an actual empty stats guy like lavine and this is a laughably dumb take
its like saying Derrick White has empty stats
Literally won a championship as the 3rd highest scorer, what are you talking about?Â
Look at the on-off splits as well throughout his career. This isnât a Zach LaVine situation.Â
Max vs super max is very different. I donât think MPJ would get close to the super max
hes eligible for a 50 mill contract since hes been in the nba for 8 years. cade makes 51 mill. like i said, lockout
What would a lockout accomplish. The player get 51% of the bri. They arenât giving that up. Do you want the billionaire owners to get more of the revenue?
Seriously, players are thrilled that a player of his level is going to make $200M. That’s the dream for 90% of the league.
As long as they like their revenue % theyâll sign
This sub is somehow full of people that donât understand how NBA profit sharing works or desperately want a lockout.
I feel like a lot of these guys are in it for drama and not ball.
I want a hard cap for parity. The players make millions and millions of dollars. Theyâre fine
Yes he has more years served so his earning potential is higher. That makes sense the NBA is a business with employees. You acting like hes eligible to make that because he better than Cade but itâs the a pay scale. Letâs say this is the post office and the older guy thatâs served 20 years makes more than the new guy busting his ass giving quality work. Year 8 Cade will be eligible to make a lot more money than year 8 MPJ.
Adam Silver and Co about to sweat it out
And Jaylen Brown? Cade can also get a super max extension later. MPJ wonât earn nearly as much as them.
Max is 30% supermax is 35%
It doesn’t apply here, but in rookie extension people commonly refer to the 30% for qualifying players as a supermax too.
Super max is being able to outearn your YOS max not a specific %.
Idk we got a valuable first for him, werenât able to move him at the deadline and then he hurt his back again. I think itâs less that MPJ doesnât want to commit to BKN and more that they donât want to commit to him
The Nets FO really hasnât earned the benefit of the doubt so I donât agree with the same conclusion.
Honestly donât see how many terrible moves Marks has made. Moving on from a Dlo-Dinwiddie-levert-Allen core for Kyrie-KD was always the right move. Kyrie and KD forced Marks into DAJ and then they wanted Nash before turning on him. Then they needed a PG because they just wanna score so they traded for Harden and it worked until Kyrie went nuts. Then the picks and moves Marks has made after have all at least made sense.
If not for a global pandemic, Nets may have titles.
Breaking up the big 3 prematurely wasnât a good move. Kyrie trade barely got assets back
It wasnât really premature. Harden gave up on the court vs the Kings to force his move. Then KD requested a trade in the summer, we said no and then Kyrie had the anti-Semitic video and demanded out so we had to deal him and then sold high on KD.
Kyrieâs value after willingly sitting out and then the anti-Semitic black Israelite movie it was a miracle they got anything at all from him.
Should have just kept harden since the Covid rules were about to go away
It was the harden trade to philly that fucked us.
Yeah I got the timeline wrong, harden was traded first which broke the whole thing up. And Iâm pretty sure the Covid rules with Kyrie werenât an issue anymore soon after the trade, seemed pretty premature to blow things up.
His drafting is pretty darn weird. A whole bunch of playmakers (even Wolf had playmaker duties in school) last year then getting another one this year. Now there are multiple camps on who should be lead guard.
It was weird but I think he was just throwing darts at high variance guys and for what itâs worth, Egor played nothing like a PG last year and Wolf works as a second or third playmaker but canât run the offense full time. Traore and Saraf are pure point guards but both may be nothing if they canât shoot.
If they end up with MBJ at the 1, Egor at 2, Wolf as a rotational 4 and Traore as a backup PG, Iâd say thatâs pretty good.
Why would the league need a lock out if some team gives MPJ 50 mil?
Lmaoo seriously, why are all these people so mad that players are getting paid, when the alternative is that money remaining in the billionaire owner’s pockets?
Yes, I think MPJ on a max is an overpay. But if some dumbass GM and owner is willing to shell out and fuck their chances of contending, that’s on the organization not the player.
Calling for a lockout to take even more money out of the players pockets is next level billionaire simp energy. It’s like one level below unironically tweeting AI generated Elon Musk inspirational quotes.
I’m curious what you think the problem is and how it should be solved.
What does this even mean. How is this upvoted. Do you people not understand a lockout.
When the Nets originally acquired MPJ last season, I thought they was for sure going to trade him at the deadline to a playoff team that needed him. Now that strategically tanking is no longer beneficial for the Nets due to the current CBA, I would think it makes sense to resign him.
I think with offer sheets being basically nonexistent, teams arenât afraid of a playerâs contract expiring. They can get value for him in a sign and trade
I only see two teams that would want MPJ if he doesn’t stay with the Nets: Pistons (who’s been linked to him last season) and Magic. Do either team have anything you would want in return?
They both have tradeable firsts, Nets wonât be too picky as long as they get some draft equity. I donât think Nets would want to do anything with Suggs on that contract, though.
I wonder if Paolo got hurt, Magic might say they donât want to waste the season and would trade him for MPJ straight up.
I could’ve sworn the Magic gave up a lot of first round picks for Desmond Bane. I would have to double check. But I could see them reaching a point where they have to pick between Paolo and Franz because they’re similar offensive players and it’s a large sample size on not being able to get over the hump with them in the playoffs.
They own their pick this year and 2031-33. Youâre right that they gave up a bunch for Bane but that was a year ago and two of them already conveyed
warriors too. he was linked there before the jimmy trade and they trying to get curry to stay
Pistons prioritize extending Ausar and possibly Duren, also keeping their draft capital. So they are unlikely to be interested in paying MPJ.
Duren is not happy with the Pistons right now because of contract disputes. He feels like he’s being lowballed. Whether he takes what they’re offering or sign a qualifying offer, next season is most likely his last in Detroit. So they will be forced to trade him.
Ausar will most likely go through the same situation too. His lack of offense will make Detroit hesitate to give him his max and they will try to convince him to take way less than he’s projected to get. He’ll be another trade piece.
One of those two are the answer to a potential MPJ deal if it happens.
They can do a sign and trade since they have his Bird Rights but offer sheets wouldn’t apply here since he’ll be a UFA. If they don’t want to re-sign him their best move is to find a trade partner that he’ll sign with and flip him before the deadline this year
My bad Iâm a dumbass
Nah you’re good bro, your comment piqued my interest so I looked it up and decided to share what I found
I donât know what the Nets are doing. Their front office gets a pass for incompetence for some reason.
MPJ wants to get paid like an all star. Nets don’t think he’s an all star and part of their long term plans. I don’t want to resign him for more than 35,000,000 tbh.
35 seems reasonable for mpj tbh. He’s a top tier complimentary player to a star duo
No, he isn’t at that price. That’s why we traded him. He consistently underperformed in the playoffs except against LA teams
35 million then vs now is a big difference. Cap continues to rise
Yeah. He’s a regular season scorer. The championship year most of the playoffs games Brown was playing the 4th quarter instead of MPJ.
Yea lol ask any other fanbase if theyâd want MPJ at that price and they all say no but for some reason the nets are morons for not jumping at the opportunity just because we have the cap space
Wasnât he good in the playoffs when he wasnât playing through injury?
MPJ had identical stats to 2016 Cavs title Kevin Love in the championship year, Denver fans blame porter for losing in the playoffs when Murray shoots 2⁄23 every other game for the last 3 seasons
Dawg, you’re comparing MPJ stats to Kevin Love when they don’t even play the same position?
Murray has not shot 2⁄23 for the last three season in the playoffs. The two seasons before last season, Murray shot over 40% FG, and over 30% 3P. Last post season Murray did put up a statistical stinker, but they literally only played Minnesota, who matches up really well against them.
Clearly, Minnesota matches up well against Denver, because even MPJ shot some stinkers against them in 2024 when he wasn’t injured. In the game where Minnesota knocked out Denver in 2024, MPJ shot 3⁄12 FG, and 1⁄6 from 3. That whole Minnesota series, MPJ was less than 40% FG.
And this is being charitable and ignoring 2025 because of injury, where MPJ stunk the whole playoffs.
They’re both overpaid, but honestly if you had to overpay one of them like the Nuggets did, then you might as well overpay Murray. If you’re counting out Murray because he sucked against a bad matchup, but overhyping MPJ because he put up some good numbers on a tanking team, then you’re gonna be in for a shock next season.
Wasn’t he injured basically each playoffs? Doesnt really resolve him because thats a problem in an of itself
\(35 million/year compared to the \)58.5 million/year his next extension is worth, that’s definitely a reasonable figure. That’s even less than the $40 million he’ll get next season.
But considering how the current CBA has affected the NBA, I’d be surprised if MPJ gets anything close to the numbers mentioned.
I think you’d want a more willing passer alongside your star duo.
He passed quite a bit more this year. Also passes more than a guy like Lauri Markkenan who makes quite a bit more with a similar skill level
Did he play like an all star last year when he wasnât being held out of games?
He did but he also fell off pretty hard post ASB because he “lost motivation”
âWhere are Murray and Jokic?â
He was close to an all star in a horrible east. This year i doubt he makes it for example with the nets tryna win.Â
eh its hard to say, numbers looked like he popped off but he looked next to useless against the heat so my image of him is the numbers were inflated by the nets not caring if they won or not
This time last year the talking heads were asking if Sean Marks had already wrapped up exec of the year because he got five firsts for Bridges. Guess we forgot that.
Iâll take my âincompetentâ GM any day for not overpaying a role player like a heâs star because he had a good season on a rebuilding Team than whatever is going on in New Orleans.
Why are you saying you donât know what theyâre doing when itâs clear they are rebuilding slowly and donât want to resign a player that will want a contract too big for them to comfortably to spend on?
But then again your a pelicans fan, you wouldnât know what NBA front offices look like considering yours doesnât know what they are doing
And if they give him a bloated extension you all will say “they gave a near max to a guy with foot drop who wasnt even an all star on a bottom 3 team where he can pad his stats”
Drop foot, bad back, hasn’t bothered to learn how to pronounce Egor ’s name, and the only time he defends is when his friend gets arrested for sex traffickingÂ
People just need to say things about their front office being incompetent because thats what the public narrative is.
This is a case of a player who wants max money that brings many questions of whether he is a max player at all. Its not just “give the guy whatever he wants cause he was the only guy on your team who could score last year”.
And the Nets particularly dont have to bend in this scenario because they arent close to contending and the development of Brown and Demin is way more crucial to their future. Why do you need to sign what would be a second or probably even 3rd option on a contending team to a massive contract? There’s no stars in the room to keep happy to take on that type of possibly albatross contract.
At the right price I want to keep him, he can score and having him around doesnt hurt to take pressure off the young guys, maybe in a couple of years if Brown and Demin are studs he can be a nice piece but if the price is too much than so be it.
Not much for them to do but try to make a competitive roster as they dont own their picks. Think they recovered well from the big 3 stint and prob better ran than the pelicans
Everyone would mock them for a long time if they overpaid MPJ for a good two thirds of the season on a horrendous roster that let him have full control and he didn’t have same results this season.
Also he says crazy shit all the time. This franchise is still getting over trusting “crazy era” Kyrie.
What logical sense is it to pay MPJ close to 40 mil now? That contract also removes them from trading for better talent who can be a #1 when new names on market.
This hurts me coming from a pelicans fan
New draft rules incentivize teams to not be in the gutter - I imagine keeping MPJ and getting Randle for nothing will help them be mediocre enough to maximize their chances at a high draft pick?
Houston owns the Brooklyn pick this year so doesnât matter
Bro I don’t think you understand the purgatory Marks saved us from when Billy King got canned. The dude always had a plan and I trust him.
Because theyâre the most irrelevant franchise of the east now, especially after the Knicks won, the nets are what the clippers were before lob city
tell me more
Thatâs because incompetence is whatâs expected from the Nets.
The contract porter jr is going to get is going to be way more than he is worth. Good for the nets to not get stuck with it
Bucks traded Giannis for one season of Herro and Kelâel Ware đ
Ware is staying and Herro is definitely getting flipped by deadline if heâs not signing with us again
Yeah so glad we traded our 2GOAT for a fucking moron/asshole combo who will leave anyway :/
Brown straight up would have been a better haul. Brad stevens must be smoking Crack again
Paul George and 2 firsts??
Snarky comment considering youâre a Celtics fan, your team wouldnât trade for Giannis because they didnât want to give up âkey young talentâ like Baylor Schiermann and Hugo Gonzalez đ¤Łđ¤Ł
Gotta keep JB too so they could get Paul George the ultimate team builder
Says the Celtics fan lol. Yall passed on Giannis for Hugo and PG đ¤Ł
Sometimes that is just the way it goes.Â
Hugo Gonzales > Giannis > 1 season of Herro+Ware > JB.
Lots of dudes who three years ago thought they might get a max are now staring MLEs and Vet mins in the face.
I had great schadenfreude when cam Thomas rejected his 4 year 80 million or whatever for the QO and is now out the league lol
It was 2/\(30 with a Team Option, if he lasted the year on the Nets they were definitely declining the option. Playing on the QO lost him \)9M
Ah okay Iâm prob thinking of schroder numbers. I still wouldnât be happy losing out on 9 mil tho.
Davis for Embiid is going to happen right.
That would be hilariously fucked for Joe
Regardless of my own opinions on the matter, I fail to see it happening if it didnt happen this summer. Going into the season, either embiid plays well and regularly - in which case it wouldnt make sense to trade him, OR he gets hurt again - in which case it would take too much to get off of him
i mean lamelo played well last season, and still got shipped, because hornets wanted to sell high, sixers could do the same thing (if u guys dont make conference finals)
I was convinced, but I think a Brown for AD trade might be a more attractive option to both sides.
I thought Nick Wright was having a different face day.
Why the hell did the wizards not trade AD then
Because Wizards. I guess they can still sign & trade him though, although they obviously wonât get nearly as much
Bruh his contract still has 2 years on it. Itâs early af to be resigning him given his injury history. AD needs to prove his worth if he wants a big deal
Well heâll be an expiring contract after this season so if he balls out you guys still wonât get as much for him, so my point still stands
AD going to Sixers đ
New CBA is boneing a lot of middle and upper middle players. The league and the owners finessed the players
Players as a whole still get the same percentage of total NBA revenue as before lol owners get the same percentage of total NBA revenue as before. It’s just getting distributed/allocated differently among some of the players now. The owners are not somehow finessing the players for more of the revenue or paying out less in salary. A portion of all the player salaries is held in escrow every year and excess is either paid out or a deficit is taken away to make their share 51% of basketball related income for the year. It’s literally the same as before this new CBA. The players actually make more in this new CBA because the list of things classified as BRI got expanded to include more stuff
idk about “boning” the players, most of these people are still being paid generational wealth to play a game where you throw a bouncy ball into a tall hoop
Itâs Burries starting spot
Come back home, baby!
Why are people this dumb in thinking players have decided they are leaving? They need to see the product on the court before they decide to commit. The season doesnât happen in the off-season.
Him and Randle on the same team doesnt make sense unless they are tanking.
The rate we are moving, NBA contracts are going to become at-will employment.
Why would you extend him. He’s worthless towards winning and not a needle mover. Dude could have been a great player but refused to expand his skills and work. Got a ring though
