There’s basically 1 bad matchup for Chet in the league and people will obsess over it as if being the #2 rim protector is a bad thing.

People will tell you with a straight face that a late lottery rookie is going to take this guys minutes in year 1.

I can’t name a third center I would want in the western conference defending Wemby other than Chet and Maaaybe Clingan at this point. There’s nothing wrong with being the second best defensive C in the entire conference.

The thing about being a #2 is they sometimes they beat the #1. So there’s no reason for OKC or their fans to panic.

Look, it’s a rivalry. They’ve been going at since at least the U-17 days. I’m not a big Chet guy, but it’s obvious to me he’s an all-nba ish big man. He can stretch the floor, and he’s an elite rim protector. That being, said, and there’s countless historical parallels to this, Victor simply dominates Chet in every statically category. He’s a better player across the board. If from what we’ve seen from Wemby continues over the now and distant future, where’s he’s matched unreal athleticism/wingspan with an elite work ethic, this could be equated to Jordan v Drexler, or Hakeem v David Robinson. That being said, Chet is on the superior team. They don’t face each other 1v1 every possession. We can call it what it is, Victor wanted it more than Chet did and simply demolished him, and frankly Chet lost some poise over the course of that series.

Nba media is awful. Someone could avg ³⁰⁄₁₀ and have a bad game 1 and nba media say they are playoff chokers. The recency bias in the nba is so much higher than other sports it seems

Probably just a combination of hate towards OKC in general and Chet not being the most likable player in the NBA. You know people in these NBA subs want to over-exaggerate everything imaginable, so calling him a bum is just the typical result to all of that. Chet certainly isn’t bad, but with the contract that he has he’ll definitely need to improve if OKC wants to win again in the next few years.

Yeah he facing Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes defensively. Only 1 center struggles against those two (Sengun)

He has a serious mental block vs Wemby, the entire world can see it. Dude retreats into his shell when Wemby is on the court, his room for improvement is on the mental side.

what progress has he shown that makes you think there will be a marked improvement? 

Because people are stupid.

It comes down to how much you care about one specific matchup. If he’s great against everyone but Wemby, and that’s a matchup you probably only run into in the WCF, maybe you just roll the dice and hope the Spurs get eliminated. Worst case, it’s not like Chet prevented them from making it a close 7 games.

Chet Holmgren vs worse teams = good

He’s definitely not a bum, but far from worth his contract.

Good player but just unplayable against Wemby

17pts and 9reb is not good enough. That’s why.

Chet is going to keep getting better.

Because when a max contract player is forced to be the number 2 option on a team they should score more than 4 points on 2 shot attempts. You don’t get to be a max player and be scared and mid. Nobody would care if he wasn’t a “max contract” player that teams hand out to people they shouldn’t.

Wemby played off Rudy & Clingon. Wemby was absolutely destructive. Randle was embarrassed. Take that criticism with a grain of salt. Wemby is already the greatest defender to ever live.

Who on earth was saying Chet should take the vet minimum?

OKC’s matchup with Wemby is their biggest concern in the West

Chet can’t keep up with him on both ends of the floor

Chet is easy to hate but he’s easily a top ten center

The Lakers series looks great, but the problem is that it’s his career high in PPG.

He has played in 9 playoff series and in ⁵⁄₉ he has averaged under 16 PPG. There should be no reason for a guy with his skill and size to score that little, he could end up becoming the next Ben Simmons.

OKC not getting to the finals unless they beat Spur, and that is not happening if Chet is paid about the same as Wemby but not performed the same

When it comes to OKC, the takes are not logical. They need to feel like the team is just going to fall apart for some reason so they can square things up in their head. Whether it’s the salary cap, or Holmgren having a rough series, whatever it takes so they don’t have to actually accept how good and well constructed the team is.

There’s no defending his terrible performance vs the Spurs, but even the best players have terrible series. Just hope it’s a learning experience, a fluke of inexperience and that he will grow from it.

He’s obviously not Wemby, but at 23 his combination of shooting, size, mobility and defense is extremely rare.

Chet is a damn good player and probably top 20ish player when it comes to team building.

People are stupid. It’s obvious that Chet under performs against the Spurs and that sucks and he needs to figure out how to be useful for them when they play the Spurs but he is genuinely such a good player who gets so much hate just from under performing vs the Spurs.

Chet will be Lucky to be a top 4 Center in the West next year. Jokic, Wemby, Kessler, Sengun. You don’t pay max money for that

I still don’t get why they ever chose not to play him as the only big men on the floor. A little more space for everyone?

Those averages sound great but you have to remember that they will see Wemby a lot in the forseeable future and if he plays like that every time they will have problems

The Knicks were just better, I know its tough to accept. You don’t think Wemby tried to takeover? He just couldn’t.

How come Chet, a 24 year old basketball player, gets talked about

• A lot is from Spurs fans. Major media like ESPN repeatedly ragebait them by hyping up Chet Wemby rivalry post-U19. So they take any chance to sht on Chet’s contract.

• Other team fans have grudge against OKC due to their hyper physical playstyle, ref management and SGA playing Hardenball.

• Jalen Duren is only 22 and got no slack either.

Wemby is shaping up to be the Shaq of his era. Unique body that creates a new problem and which everyone will be remembered/measured against.

Patrick Ewing - pretty forgettable, little older, probably forgotten if he doesn’t play in NY
