I saw some of the threads and commentary about what OP is referring to and you’re absolutely right. The vast majority of people do recognize how amazing Nash is despite the comments from the trolls or the kids who didn’t watch him. I’m still happy to see this post though because it’s a good reminder of Nash’s ability to score. I would have loved to see him play in this era.

TBF, that decision was almost entirely about injury risk and the suns medical staff at that time was head and heals above the rest. Grant Hill, Shaq, Vince Carter, Michael Redd and many others went there towards the end of their careers because they were known to be able to extend players health and productivity. That reputation was built on Steve Nash’s improved back.

The frustrating thing about Nash vs Stockton arguments is that pretty much all the “he would’ve scored more in the modern era” arguments for Nash are even more true for Stockton, especially playing for Sloan rather than D’Antoni.

Even then the gap in peak scoring is only 1.5 ppg and Stockton’s efficiency was actually a hair better. Stockton’s probably the most underrated shooter ever, especially from midrange.

I mean, they would’ve competed for a longer time and at a higher level with Nash over Kidd. Kidd was wonderful, but Nash was a legitimate MVP level player during his Suns tenure.

They didn’t pay Nash so that they could pay Erick Dampier.

Them winning a ring 7 years later when the guy wasn’t even on the team does not mean letting a guy who was about to win back to back MVPs walk to sign Erick Dampier was a good idea.

I mean yes it did work out for them in that sense but the Dirk / Nash pairing may have led to more success, and theres really no way to know.

Its just hypothetical but if they have Nash on the team in 2006 I don’t think they blow a 2-0 lead to the heat.

This is a cherry picked ass stat lmao but the closest one off the top of my head was Westbrook vs Harden in 2017 but they didn’t make an all star game as teammates prior but they eventually did together in 2020. Westbrook put up 37.4 and Harden put up 33.2.
