Magloire is probably 2nd, but 1st is James Donaldson and its not even close. 7 pts 9 reb averages in his all-star year. He was the 8th leading scorer on his own team.

The kid was a beast in college and they wanted a college player. He was the player of the year and I think National champ… Was he the best? No, Shaq was alive, but he was good and deserved the nod.

Kaman was serviceable in an era when the 5 position didn’t have any depth. Like after Shaq and often injured Yao Ming, name another center during the latter 2000s besides Dwight Howard… maybe Marcus Camby and Tyson Chandler…. no one was getting Scott Pollard or Chris Mihms on the ballot and no one liked Brad Miller

I remember going to a Blazers game against the Cavs the year after LeBron left for Miami. Mo was the last guy announced during starting lineups… those Cavs teams were very, very sad.

He was money from 3 in the nba live 07 demo.

Eh. He was the second injury replacement that year and the people he was competing with were:

David Lee who was on a 32 win team and was averaging less points than Mo Williams

Vince Carter who was on a 34 win team.

Rajon Rondo who was just breaking out and the other injury replacement that year was Ray Allen and Stern couldn’t pick two Celtics.

Mo was good for the Bucks before going to the Cavs. But the Bucks were terrible.

Those Cavs LeBron teams were so bad in hindsight. No wonder he left.

It took Jameer Nelson (replaced by Ray Allen) and Chris Bosh dropping out for Mo to get added to the team. It felt like a charity case.

And he was a reserve replacement for Chris Bosh that year. People were mad that he got it over Ray Allen until Jameer Nelson couldn’t participate and then Ray got it

As a giant Cavs fan in that era, I was coming to say the exact same thing 

James Donaldson was worse if you are just going by counting stats. He was an All Star in 1988 averaging 7 PPG, 9.3 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. He was an okay defender but nothing special that year as he wasn’t All Defense any year of his career. 

I would take Magloire over Donaldson any day. I would actually take Magloire over Donaldson and several other centers in that era. It’s especially more egregious when Donaldson wasn’t even a top 4 player on his team that year, since at least Magloire was a top 3 player on his team. Nor was Donaldson even the team’s best big men, as that was the ridiculously talented but haunted Roy Tarpley. 

In fact both Donaldson and Steve Johnson made the All Star team in 1988. It was a joke for bad centers to become All Stars in that era. Donaldson, Steve Johnson, and Kevin Duckworth were all All Stars somehow in a short span. That’s why I have no doubt a player like Okafor would have at least played 10 years in that era. 

He deserved to be an all star that season.

If they actually went with 3 frontcourt players like they do today, Lamar Odom probably takes his spot that year.

Odom averaged 17ppg and 10rpg for a Miami Heat team that would eventually make it to the 2nd round.

He was really good. Then he was gone.

The only thing I remember about Josh Howard is burning their last timeout too early in the Finals so Dallas couldn’t advance the ball later.

I dunno. Norm has shot the lights out the past few years on teams that you don’t care about and don’t really matter. He’s way more deserving than a Jamaal Magloire.

The reason he got picked was cause Dwade (who was selected as an all star that year) was injured so they got a replacement.

Now, the reason why it was Kyle Korver specifically? No idea

90s Warriors were a revolving door of some dodgy guys who made All-Star teams elsewhere. BJ Armstrong, Tom Gugliotta, and Chris Gatling are some of the lowest tier All-Stars you’re ever going to see.

Buse was the 34th overall selection in the 1972 draft, and that was a 3rd round pick at the time 😁

He was a legit All-Star though. He was 2nd team all-ABA in 1976 and led the league in steals and was an All-Star. The next season in the NBA he made another All-Star appearance and led the Association in assists and steals per game.

Buse made 6 consecutive 1st team all defensive teams too (first 2 in ABA, then 4 in a row in the NBA), was a Division 2 champ, and an ABA champ (73’ w/Pacers).
