That would be funny but unprofessional. A good leader should never back down from a challenge, but should also not throw personal attacks at a team member in front of the rest of the team. It would be better if LeBron said something like “Yeah, have fun, but don’t forget we’re playing for a playoff spot, so like Coach said, give it your all and leave it all out on the court.” As soon as a leader starts personally attacking team members they start to lose trust. And a team that doesn’t trust eachother isn’t a very good team.

The season would end with LBJ finally connecting with his teammates and finding a way to fuel their desire to win. But ultimately fall short of making the playoffs.
Season 2 will introduce some player trades and other personalities. But same old laughs and nuances that attribute to a losing season. Maybe there’s a golden state or OKC esque team that is dominating the league. Season 2 they get knocked out at first round playoffs.
This could go on indefinitely for 20+ seasons, but ultimately never win a championship. Well… maybe they win the championship at the series finale. Or, better yet, lose the championship but LBJ learns that it’s the friends he made along the way that matters most.

Some people respond badly to pressure. So it could be he was trying to alleviate some of that pressure by contextualizing it as having fun. It definitely came off a little tone deaf, but that’s what I perceive he was trying to convey
It’s super clear he went through a period where there was too much weight, and he found a way to take that off him mentally. This is that, IMO. He’s spent a lot of time trying to do that for teammates over the past few years. What I don’t understand is why people can’t see enough nuance to things to acknowledge that Russ is a flawed basketball player AND ALSO trying his best for himself and for his teammates. I know there are limitations to how much you can win with late 30s Russ playing significant minutes, but man, I’d love having him as a teammate.
