[2011] Dwyane Wade dislocates a prime Rajon Rondo’s elbow on a dirty play during the Celtics’ series with the Big 3 Heat. Rondo comes back into the game, and leads Boston to a win playing almost exclusively with one arm
This play and him ruining the dunk contest as a judge makes me a lifetime D-Wade hater
Don’t forget the blindside on Collison, straight up kicking Roman Sessions in the nuts, injuring Kobe at the all star game, and the ninja kick drives.
Wade’s roid rage era lol
Never forget when he had the Hawks radio team hot.
THUGGERY!
THE HEAT HAVE RESTORED TO T*H*UGGERY
As a lifelong Mavs fan, I’m loving this thread
It takes a special kind of hatred for Wade to overcome the Mavs lesser but still 100% valid hatred for Rondo.
Wade is more villainous than Rondo in Dallas
By an order of magnitude. Agreed.
wade was a very dirty player
Storied 2012 trade deadline acquisition Ramon Sessions. I was so dumb as a kid, I really thought his addition might get the Lakers back to the Finals.
Justice for AG!
The only person to win the dunk contest twice without a trophy.
Lavine deserved it imo
Yeah relax Lavine was incredible. AG had the best dunk, but that’s not the contest
AG had the best last 2 dunks, LaVine didn’t beat him on either of the last two, at best he tied him lmao
That statue was karma
And JJ Barea in the finals.
That was DWade? I thought that was Famous Amos the cookie guy this whole time.
haha
Don’t forget him and LeBron mocking Dirk being actually sick during the finals. Fucking asshat
Welcome to the club 🤝
His dirty play on Darren Collison. Wade has always gotten love from refs. How he never developed the dirty reputation is something else.
Some guys randomly get insane PR.
Blake Griffin is one of the angriest, dirtiest players I’ve ever seen but off the court it’s just like “hey there’s Americas favorite black ginger”
I need to see a compilation of Blake playing dirty I guess, I didn’t remember him that way but I also wasn’t watching the “lob city” clippers
He was dirty and picked on smaller dudes. I remember when Andre Miller lost his multiple-seasons long iron-man streak because he ran the length of the floor and just trucked tf out of BG. It was awesome.
Edit: here https://youtu.be/nQrNYIBw3fw?si=JyoLfGpO17Lr3tjC
Bigs were always coached to “punish” guards for going near the rim or into the paint. Those light shoves from Blake don’t really rise to the level of “dirty” for me.
Does bill lambier being coached to be physical mean he wasn’t a dirty player? Crazy logic.
That is quite a leap of logic! Maybe “dirty” has a different definition to you.
And, if we’re honest, Blake’s little shoves on Andre happened within the context of actual basketball. Andre’s tackle was the only dirty play I saw.
Pushing someone 8 inches shorter in the back repeatedly after the play is over is not part of basketball.
One the comments said I don’t think it was a malicious okay by Andre at all. He just wanted to show him this really cool spot on the floor.
Blake got full sent to the after realm on that one lolllllll
I thought he was just aggressive on the court, not dirty.
Off the court in commercials and stuff he seemed like a guy trying to act like he’s not an asshole. Maybe he’s not one, but he looks like a guy who is but is hiding it for marketability.
How can you say this on a thread where EVERYONE is shitting on him for being dirty?
He absolutely has a rep as a dirty player, and it’s fairly well earned.
Someone posted a play that’s 15 years old at random, just to showcase he’s dirty and there’s essentially no one in here defending him.
To be fair, “everyone” you’re talking about is a small population within a niche subreddit.
Breaking Kobe’s nose in an allstar game
Mavs fan here. Fuck Dwayne
Smug ass mfer
Fuck DWade
That time he flopped his way to a title did it for me (at least until 2011)
bro is a piece of shit, even cheating on his wife
06 + 11 my reasons
i’m sure d wade cares that a member of the most racist fanbase hates him
Same! That dunk contest fuckery made me hate his guts
Between this and breaking Kobe’s nose trying to block a layup at an All Star game, Wade should get a healthy bit of flak for being out of control at times.
He was a dirty player
Crazy how he’s remembered as anything but
He’s a really good guy off the court (from what we can tell), and that buys you a lot of good will after retirement. As opposed to Bill Lambier who a lot of people in the NBA still hate, and despite a very successful career as a coach in the WNBA still ran his mouth to the point of hurting his career there, I think my personal highlight of his time as WNBA coach was the season where he said a player (maybe it was Maya Moore) should get hurt for playing in the 4th quarter of a blow out, got fired and then rehired because despite being just such a huge asshole he was the best coach the team could get.
Fuck Lambier forever
This sub loves JR Smith who is one of the dirtiest players to ever exist.
What about warriors fans sucking off Draymond
Draymond is not universally liked at all, not even by warriors fans. in any conversation about him his dirty plays are always mentioned.
Yea Draymond is not a good example. A better example is the thread for when Jokic injured Morris’s neck (missed 50+ games) shoving him from behind and compare it to the comments in here or in a Draymond thread.
In comparison this was just 2 guys feet getting tangled up then DWade getting a little frustrated and pulling Rondo down with him. No way he intended for this to happen and it’s just very unlucky Rondo landed the way he did.
Only warriors fans like draymond lol.
Evidence?
Evidence that the sub loves him or that he’s dirty?
That he’s dirty. But it seems like that’s been answered.
Not saying there aren’t some dirty plays someone could pull up, but the fact that nothing immediately comes to mind makes this feel a tad bit exaggerated. However, let’s wait and see what the evidence shows.
Cause everyone’s a little dirty in the nba, Wade wasn’t particularly dirty.
He also kicked Ramon Sessions in the balls Draymond style
Some ppl pay good money for that
“It was very simple. He didn’t mean to do it. He’s not that kind of person. He’s a nicer guy than I am,” Bryant said after playing with a mask and scoring 31 points”
-kobe bryant on wade breaking his nose
Wade was not a good guy.
That’s just funny
Thus happens a lot. It’s normal when someone’s shoe falls off for players to throw it off the floor. Wouldn’t be good if someone twisted their ankle on it.
he did dirty shit, call it what it is
Rondo was a hard ass
Played 12 minutes with a torn ACL, walked around with it for another day, and found out it was torn when he went to get treatment on his hammy prior to a game
I really fucking hated DWade when this happened. Rondo hated the Heat and had a couple of absolute incredible games against them in those years. There was like a 43/11/8 game where he played all 53 minutes. Think he’s one of like 10 players with 10 playoff triple doubles
Rondo was absolutely unreal during that stretch. Seemed like he was the star times, which was hard to believe in the moment and the guys he was surrounded with. I miss old school (?) PGs like that.
He made being a pass first guard cool, half my highschool team practice his behind the head passes and trying to get everybody open
This is why the Ray Allen thing hurt so much. There was baaad blood between these teams. Obviously it went too far for too long but it sucked to see him go there and win a ring with them
I was so irrationally made when he hit that big shot for the Heat. It wasn’t just that he left the Celtics and went to their biggest rival, it was that he had his worst season with the Cs his last year and then had such an iconic play for Miami. Ugh.
Rondo before the ACL tear was easily a future hall of famer, and we don’t talk about his career being a “what if” enough cuz he still had a very impressive run.
I mean he’s probably still a HoFer
Rondo is still a Hall of Famer
2 rings, 4 all star, 4 all defense, 3 time assist leader
Also Steals leader once!
But he was always overshadowed by CP3. There was a couple years where he might have been 2nd best PG in the league but he was never 1st.
He was a freak athlete pre-injury. I will always remember him dunking on prime Dwight in the playoffs
Prime, playoff Rondo was truly something else, genuinely played like a top five player in the playoffs most of the time from 2009-2012 and was the best passer in basketball.
He outplayed LeBron in beating his Cavs in 2010, and nearly outplayed him again in 2012 (and was through game 5). It was Rondo that brought out game six LeBron.
Rondo lost a lot to his game with his early 2013 ACL tear.
Am I misremembering or did he play like an entire half on that torn acl?
I believe he tore it in the 4th of a regular season game against Atlanta and then came back to play in OT.
No one even suspected an ACL tear until a few days later. I remember Pierce had the new broken to him during a pregame interview.
He did, and he played with 1 arm for a half here, as OP mentioned. Madman.
Philip Rivers did this in an NFL game too for the full entirety of it. Just insane.
Rondo was my favorite player for years… he was locked in during that Cavs series in 2010.
Only Celtics jersey I own, had season tickets back then. Wish he wasn’t such an issue off the court, but on the court he was amazing.
Yeah that whole ref thing…..very shitty of Rondo
Chicago got a past his prime version of Rondo but best believe I enjoyed every bit of it back in 16⁄17
Not to mention Playoff Rondo still showed up on the Pelicans, Bulls, and Lakers past his prime.
He almost single handedly led the bulls to the second round.
Those playoff years were extra entertaining since in the first round there was also some random low seed team that had Playoff Rondo to frack things up.
One of my favorite players of all time, easily.
2010: the highlight of that series
https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/vjz208/rondo_with_the_pretty_behindtheback_pass_to_tony/
For that play, you need the context that LeBron had a ridiculous chase down block every other game back then, and Rondo 100% saw it coming before he got in the air.
The chase down in 2016 was obviously LeBron’s most famous play, but it also used to be routine during his first stint in Cleveland.
I respect prime Franklin
Outplayed LeBron in 2012 playoffs through 5 games? Lol wtf are you talking about. Crazy that this is the first comment to call that out. Shows you how many people actually watched basketball then. I’m not down playing Rondo at all. He played great all series probably outside of game 1. That’s why he went nuclear in game 2. To say he outplayed LeBron while LeBron averaged 30+ before you even consider game 6 is crazy tho.
16-7-10 (on admittedly bad efficiency) in the playoffs those years, vs. 12-5-10 in the regular season (on better efficiency)
Rondo was huge during the Lakers 2020 run too
He was so fun to watch. Underrated imo
LBJ quit on his team at the end of that series. Was bizarre to watch
There isn’t a team in professional sports I hate more than the Boston Celtics. That being said, how did Wade not get suspended for this? He literally tackled the dude with the obvious intention of harming him when the ball was out of bounds
The same way wemby never got suspended this year
In the second angle of the video Rondo pulls his left side that results in his left leg swinging back and him falling into rondo.
He should have got called for a foul for impeding rondo ability to go get the ball but he didn’t fall on him. Rondo pulled him down and then some really bad luck on the landing.
I have no dog in this fight and if anything, love Ray Allen the most on the floor… I remember rooting for them because of him.
Honestly, I have a hard time seeing this as a dirty play. It looked like Rondo was digging his right elbow into Wade or trying to? And then he braces himself with his left hand while Wade sort-of looks like he’s tripping and/or holding back Rondo.
The elbow dislocation seems to be more of a fluke accident resulting from it. Not a safe play at all (from either) but it’s a real stretch to call this a dirty play IMO. I can understand though if you are a major Rondo (or Boston) fan, how you’d see that as a dirty play. Vice-versa, if Wade had gotten injured from that, I could see that being flipped around too.
Agree
Not dirty. Rondo just landed funny on his arm. If he doesn’t land funny,, the whole play would be forgettable.
Oh man I was so fucking furious watching this live.
I still hate Wade to this day. One of the dirtiest players of his era.
I was always a big Celtic hater. This game is what made me a Rondo fan. Watching him come back and play with one arm was one of the coolest things teenage me ever saw.
If Draymond did this, there would be some redditors here would literally go into cardiac arrest lmao
This is a martial arts move
I like how you conveniently leave out that Rondo has his left arm wrapped around the left side of Wade’s waist (while pulling) lol. They were both trying to get physical with one another but neither had the intention of injuring the other.
Guys, what is wrong with you?
He did not dislocate his arm at all. He just took him with him to the ground after hard contact. To say Wade dislocated his shoulders is completely crazy…. tf…
Also Rondo helped pull Wade’s hip so he fell and Wade just returned the favor lol
All true Mavs fans hate DWade. Glad there are reasons for other groups to hate him too.
“Hand down, man down” still works here?
Lol this is so dumb
Oh so we’re at the fuck DWade part of the offseason now…
Love Rondo, one of my favorite Celtics of all time. This was not a dirty play, just an unfortunate accident between two guys fighting for position.
Rondo was such a clean player too. He never played dirty at all. Never.
This is conveniently missing from the thread
Dirty play is a bit of a stretch
The comments on these dirty play videos are always so funny. You’d think Wade stabbed him or something
What’s a little arm dislocation between friends
His intent was to draw a foul on Rondo. Which explains why they were ok for a time due to the intent. The Ramon Sessions knee jerk play is what you want to show. Even Wade immediately knew he was in the wrong.
This is what others were referring to. Explaining away clearly dirty plays. He was mad dirty
They were both fouling , this was not Wade’s fault lol just a bad fall
How is this dirty? OP never played competitive basketball.
That was mutual fuckery. Why is everyone hating so hard on D Wade? That just looks like a very unfortunate landing for Rondo, and I’m from Kentucky.
If you think this is a dirty play you’ve never played basketball, rondo grabbed him and he grabbed him back. Foul? For sure… but grabbing someone who you have your back to while being dragged down isn’t dirty by any stretch
Rajon walk em down rondo
the streets remember. fuck the heat.
How could Wade do this - shot a man in broad daylight, disgusting..
I love the amount of revisionist history attacking de ace as a dirty player acting like rajon rondo don’t kill shit and doc rivers didn’t send his big 4 to go for wades knees play after play,
This is just how these series was fought and played.
Celtics fans can stay crying tho. It’s entertaining 🍿
I remember this play, rondo was holding, stop trying to hang on to a bigger and stronger player…shizz happens. Love both competitors all the same though.
Yea RONDO shouldn’t have fucking grabbed him.
Wade was always a dirty player
Rondo came back and played with one arm. Fav rondo moment Was that the season where d wade was kicking ppl in the balls ?
Fuck Dwade!
Not great by d wade but I remember seeing this game live and man did it make for damn good tv, like the plot of a cheese sports movie, have we gotten iconic moments like these on the 2020s? I can’t pint point one really
He did similar shit Avery Bradley too. Fuck D Wade.
Put it back up mods
Yeah idk where it went for five hours lol
Fairly or unfairly this play turned me against DWade.
And then the Bulls brought them together with Jimmy Butler, and they all had perfect chemistry and lived happily ever after.
I still hate that Heat team
Dirty D
We probably win this series if Rondo doesn’t get hurt.
This game made Rondo one of my favorite players ever.
Him taking a backcourt violation and quitting on the Mavs in the middle of a game made him my most hated player ever.
I tend the reporter after the game asking him hire is arm is and he just looks at it says something like “look at it it’s broke. “
D Wade, dirty player and flopper.
Rajon Rondo. The streets will never forget you
I had so much respect for Rondo after this game.
Why ain’t yall talking about how he skips down court and just elbows Lance Stephenson in the neck when the ball isnt even in play
I think about this frequently. The dirtiest play I’ve seen in recent memory. Definitely hated heat Dwade
Wade was the closest thing to a WWE superstar the NBA had for a long time
Rondo a legend if you know u know
Rondo was such a joy to watch even as a Celtic. I hope that archetype doesn’t disappear over time (Isaiah collier looking at you)
Still insane to watch him come back out and play
Not a dirty play. Just 2 players who got tangled up, and Rondo fell awkwardly. Boston fans need to get out of their feelings about this. Y’all were going to lose that series one way or another.
Not dirty at all, Rondo was holding him and Wade simply pulled him down from his hip.
Classic Wade in action
I’m a big Rondo’s fan. One of the highest IQ player. But where is the dirty play? Help me understand what part of this play was dirty.
hooked his arm and pulled him down
I must be blind because i don’t see where he hooked Rondo’s arm.
Are we watching the same clip
Are you fucking joking
It was a physical play and it was a bit reckless of Wade to grab his arm while falling. But yeah people exaggerate how bad this play was all the time.
Rondo pokes away the ball. Wade falls back into rondo and wraps around him instead of trying to get the loose ball. Rondo falls because of Wade and dislocates his arm. Wade probably wasn’t intending to dislocate his arm but it was not a basketball play
Im watching this again slow motion and it looks like some typical aggressiveness you come to expect in these kinda game. Rondo pushes on wades back but it slides into his neck/head area so then wade understandably gets more physical back and the arm that is holding onto Rondo, also gets pinned by Rondo himself, which would make it kinda hard for Wade to pull it back no? His elbow getting injured didn’t seem intentional or much to do with Wade or am i just not looking at this correctly? The 0:57 mark Rondo gets his neck/head which i why i think the wrap happened.
celtics fans wont give away to common sense when its obvious theyre playing hard i mean look at what rondos doing to wade after the balls away as theyre falling yet wade is the dirty player. It was a physical play where rondo dislocated his arm due to how they fell.
He obviously wasn’t intending to dislocate Rondo’s arm. He didn’t even touch the arm that got injured. Rondo tried to catch himself with his hand while falling, which is a great way to get injured.
Again, all ready said he probably wasn’t trying to hurt Rondo. Still wasn’t a basketball play
It’s not what these idiots are saying. Wade does lock his arm on the right side, but he gets hurt on his left arm when they both stumble backwards. It was a messed up thing to do on Wade’s part , but it’s not what causes the injury or neither can it be deemed intentional.
he held onto him and pulled him to the floor to prevent the TO
Rondo dirty af, no one remembers all his reaches and super physical plays leading up to this.
Wade dirty for doing this even though I too don’t think it was intentional to dislocate Rondos elbow, but it was a response to Rondos play
Celtics fans love to rewrite history with Rondo and the big 3 Celtics in general. He was incredibly dirty. Pushed Kirk Hinrich into the scorer’s table for absolutely no reason.
Its not that dirty of a play. Wade grabbed him as he fell to prevent Rondo from getting around him to the ball and to probably try and draw a foul as there was some contact Rondo initiated to try and get around him. People focus on that Rondo getting injured and Wade’s history, but the injury was more a product of Rondo using his arm to try and stay up when that is always a bad idea, although usually due to potential wrist injury.
Dirtiest player of his era
D wade was arguably the dirtiest player in the league during the late 2000s/early 2010s. Constantly making non-basketball plays like this that should have been beneath him considering his talent. Caused several injuries over the course of his career doing things like this and I don’t think he ever really faced any repercussions for it.
Fuck Dirty wade.
heck of a player , but a piece of shit on the court,
Why is this a dirty play? Looks like 2 guys playing really hard and getting tangled up. One guy falls funny.
You see, grabbing someone and pulling them down with you, with extra force, so much so it causes the other players elbow to dislocate, due to them not being able to properly brace them selves, because you’re pulling them down, is indeed dirty.
Pulling someone down with you (who was hanging on your back, elbowing you in the neck, and taking you down first).
Rondo was trying to dislodge from wade to go after the loose ball, Wade used both arms and his body to prevent Rondo from doing so and pulled him down in the process. Rondo was never trying to stay connected to Wade after poking the ball loose. He was trying to rip through and push off.
Sure. You are the arbiter of what players were trying to do 15 years ago. Congratulations.
I’m sorry your ability to understand what you’re looking at is so poor that you think there is any debate about what Rondo was trying to do in this clip. If you had any clue who Rondo was as a player, there was 0 doubt he was going for the ball.
Yeah, man. I’m really impressed by you. I’m sure your opinion isn’t influenced by your Celtics fandom.
Show me the Eugene evidence rondo didn’t try to just win. Or was dirty. Nope. But plenty of evidence wade was. Case closed.
Case closed. You guys have done it again. Checkmate. I yield to the masters.
Well the plenty of evidence didn’t convince you. But whatever. People believe lots of crazy things, despite evidence to the contrary . Nothing new here.
It was just a freak injury. The arm he dislocated was the one he was bracing with. You arent supposed to lock your arm out and brace like that when you fall anyway.
I hate Wade for this. To this day. Nice guy? I don’t give a shit. Good father? Fuck you, go home and play with your kids.
Idc peak Rondo was the best PG in the league. Idgafffff about no CP, rondo had that dog in em
This play ruined d wade for me. Would sometimes root for the Celtics because I loved Rondo. This has to be one of the most under-remembered, egregious dirty plays as far as series-altering events goes. Just look at how well they played the Heat in 2012, Rondo had some monster games. I don’t care what anyone says, Rondo was a top 5 PG in his prime, and is probably the best pure passer the league has seen since Nash. Rondo > CP3
Wade always was a bitch
Dwade is and forever will be a huge bitch
3RD GREATEST SG OF ALL TIME. WE DO NOT CARE
SAVE YOUR TEARS. ESPECIALLY YOU, BOSTON FANS.
CHARLOTTE FANS, IM DEEPLY SORRY YOU DONT HAVE SHIT ELSE TO BE MAD ABOUT.
Dwyane Wade was a pretty dirty player
