Rip. Wild career
Underrated coach. RIP
And player
I mean he’s second in wins behind pop, don’t think he’s that underrated.
Do you know what underated means
Damn. Rip Nelly, and shout out to the Nellie Ball Warriors. Franchise legend for sure.
There was a great couple games back in the early 10’s where the warriors were forced to sub in injured players (who were suited to play just to fill minimum roster slots), because our healthy guys had all fouled out of the game, and Nelly told them to go in, get a foul, pretend to have become injured, and sub out again. It led to us being one of the only teams ever to be able to play players with more than 6 fouls, and I want to say that happened twice that season. Nelly didn’t want to risk the bench guys actually re-aggravating their injuries. Rest in peace Don.
Pretty sure it was Devean George that remained in the game with 6 fouls, and had the chance to (but didn’t) pick up a 7th personal foul.
Coach was really letting the refs have it too, when they tried to force him to sub in Ronny Turiaf and (i think) Anthony Tolliver, one after the other. Think 3 people played all 48 minutes that game.
We did our against the cavs and won
Before gsw, there was no D Dallas. Dallas was so fun to watch during Dirk’s prime years
RIP. Sucks he never got a real chance at a title.
Won five as a player, though
Yeah, but would have been neat if he got a couple as a coach, with how he revolutionized the game and whatnot.
Probably because he didn’t coach defense
its very unusual to have that much success and not coach in the Finals at least once
RIP to Basketball’s Coolest Uncle.
RIP
Time to watch his winner in the 1969 finals vs the Lakers again
Rip Nelly
Nellie ball will always live on. RIP
Rest in peace king
Streets remember this killer ripping his old teams eyes out as a 8 seed
Fucking hell, Mavs fans still have nightmares about that series
Damn dude… RIP. Loved that We Believe squad
Remarkable career in basketball. Beyond his coaching, where he revolutionized small ball, he went from being released by the Lakers to playing an important role in five championships in Boston.
Don Nelson doing 2-3 playoff postgame press conferences with a can of Miller Lite next to him was peak coolness. Of all of David Stern’s sins, putting an end to Nelly drinking beer during press conferences was the most egregious.
RIP to a real one
🫗🫗🫗🫗🫗
He’s the reason Dirk Nowitzki became Dirk Nowitzki. He truly revolutionized the game and seemed like a great guy as well. He was also cool as hell.
Damn this is making me feel old
Excellent coach in Milwaukee. His tenure just coincided with the 80s Celtics and 76ers.
RIP coach.
RIP Nellie.
RIP.
Unconventionel gameplans always have been something that fascinates me. This guy made a living out of it on one of the biggest stages possible. You definetly will be remembered!
R.I.P.
Fucking hell. I was sure that Hawaiian air and weed would keep old Don live to be a 100. Here is lighting a joint in your honor, coach. We lost the wrong Don today.
Rest In Peace Nelly! That run and gun is still in effect today!
RIP. Great coach.
Great coach.
I always thought him and John Madden were long lost brothers or cousins as a little kid
For us h e was the franchise. I revered that man. Rest in peace
Nellyball was fun.

RIP. Great guy and coach
Loved the Nelly mavs and Nelly gsw, condolences to his friends and family and fans.
Rip
A pioneer of the game. Nelly was one of the early adopters of pace and space ball along with positionless basketball. He was called eccentric for it but damn did it work and was fun to watch.
A legend of the game that left his mark.
