Russell Westbrook Wholesome Encounter With Fan in Beverley Hills
Russ was trying to be nice. cam guy is a paparazzi following celebs around like a leech
Camera guy is a creep.
He was upfront with Russ from the get go about his purposes. Props to Russ for giving him the time
It would’ve looked bad with liberals if he didn’t act cordially
Projection from the right, as usual
I’ve read this sentence like 6 times and it just doesn’t even seem to mean anything.
Looked back.
He’s right. I would’ve looked back at this but luckily he was cordial.
I prefer to look front but to each their own.
I’m pretty sure the guy is an influencer whose content is to take portraits of strangers and chat with them.
[removed]
They’ve officially normalized it to the weak minded like yourself
Goofy comment ngl
Paparazzi take pictures of celebrities for tabloids. A person who makes social media content of mostly strangers is not a paparazzi.
I’m sorry but calling someone “weak minded” for knowing words have definitions is just dumb.
Not a fan of the “weak minded” BS, so its hard to take this guy’s side.
But if you follow around celebrities with a camera, trying to make money off their existence without them agreeing to it, paparazziis a fair term. I dont think the distinction of selling it to US weekly or TMZ vs making money off YouTube or whatever is much of a difference.
The reason paparazzi have a bad reputation isnt who signs their checks, its harassing celebrities in public for personal gain.
But if you follow around celebrities with a camera, trying to make money off their existence without them agreeing to it, paparazziis a fair term.
It’s a fair term if you do this all the time yea. It would be fair because that’s the definition.
One person doing it once isn’t that.
Bro, what? Lol. What this guy does existed WAY before people started doing it on the internet. He’s essentially doing some special interest journalism on a small scale. He’s not a paparazzi, that’s very different and also has existed for WAY before the internet has.
“Weak minded” for knowing two words and the difference between them is wild, especially when you clearly don’t understand the difference between what this guy does and what a paparazzi does. Lol
I do think there is a difference between the two that’s all
Proving the point further
That’s not what proof is - you made a claim, he said something that aligns with your claim, but you never actually proved your original claim. It’s just an opinion.
cam guy is a paparazzi
paparazzo*
Calm down, Jordan Schlansky.
I appreciate the grammar correction but these scum don’t deserve that attention to detail and frankly they don’t deserve to be dignified by it. In a better world they would be non existent or at least correctly identified by 99% of people as subhuman.
Yikes
Sorry, what would you like my reaction to be? These people are scum. Bottom of the earth. But if I’m wrong, please elaborate instead of just saying “yikes”.
Never realized there was such a crossover between this sub and fauxmoi before. Whoops.
Yikes.
The photographer was polite and respectful though.
Take that TikTok background music off and it’s some dude pestering a guy while he’s trying to pick up his kids.
Nothing respectful about putting a camera in someone’s face like this.
It’s all phony
He sounded exactly like that
Polite and respectful is saying nothing and telling your buddy you saw Russell Westbrook walking sround in Beverly Hills.
I was working at a Hollywood Video the summer after Jason Richardson won the dunk contest the first time (I’m old). He came in and my buddy and I just keep making ‘holy shit’ faces at each other. My buddy checks him out and says “nice dunk” on the way out. JRich just says thanks and we all continued our evening.
I’ve treated that as the absolute limit for any time I wanna geek out about seeing a celebrity. If you must say something, say something nice very briefly and discreetly. Don’t stick a fucking camera in their face and follow them down the street asking questions while they’re trying to pick up their kids.
This happened while at Cocino De Minio (spelling). Vince Gill came in for dinner while we were eating. He tried to disguise his look. My dad’s friend walked up said “nice try Vince”. Both giggled and that was it.
Saw Coach Popovich walking around by himself in downtown sf some time ago. He greeted people, signed stuff, and even laughed with a few people. It’s ok to talk to people in public
Not really wholesome. Russ was basically pretty kind to a terrible paparazzi trying to get a clip or pic he could sell for money.
I’ve always been of the belief that you just say something in passing if you see a celebrity, maybe a fist bump or dap. Chasing them down with a camera and berating them with questions is just subhuman behavior.
I saw Troy Aikman at a breakfast spot when I was in Aspen for a concert. He caught me by surprise when I walked in and we made eye contact (sensual). In my head I was thinking holy shit it’s Troy Aikman. I didn’t bother him. When I was leaving, he gave me a head nod. Which I interpreted as appreciation for not bothering him lol
I bumped into Damon Stoudamire once when he was on his way to practice when he was Boston assistant coach. It was one of those, I recognize who this is but I need to make sure. So I’m like, you used to ball before, yeah? He was like, I was okay back in the day. I’m like, didn’t you win rookie of the year, and play for Portland, etc. He laughed it off, gave me a dap and I told him it was great to meet him. And that was it. I didn’t ask for a photo or try to talk his ear off. This lasted about 35 seconds and I already felt I bothered him too much, haha.
I need to take a picture with you so my friends will believe me!
I had pretty much this same interaction with tom Brady lol
Yeah man i saw the guy who plays Finch from the american pie movies riding on the subway, and i didn’t do nothing because no one cares about the american pie movies. Just let him ride didn’t even make eye contact.
Tell me how sensual
Our eyes met for at least 0.7 seconds. I don’t want to get too graphic
Best thing you can do w a celebrity I think. I remember being at the Westchester mall food court with my brother and sitting exactly across from Ben Schwartz (Sonic & Parks n Rec). We accidentally made eye contact at the same time, I cocked my head and pointed at him, he smiled and nodded, I gave a thumbs up and we both went about our business. When he was done he went out of his way to walk by and say “thanks guys, have a great day.”
One time though I did get stuck behind Anthony Rizzo and his big ass family walking around the Upper East side, and after he apologized and let us pass, I turned around and said “Ya know I’m a Mets fan, and my Mom’s a Cubs fan, but despite all that you’re impossible to hate man” and they all cracked up
So idk. I guess you just gotta be cool.
I’ve got a controversial belief. Just ignore them the way you would any other person that doesnt know you. Why do you need a fist bump so bad?
idk i say hi to strangers often and fist bump plenty of ppl haha. depends on where you are ig but i think the world is a warmer place when we’re being friendly and establishing a feeling of community with each other.
Agree - leave them alone
You dont need a fist bump, but you could say something nice thats quick, like hey Ben, I really loved your acting in Gigli
this isn’t controversial in LA — it’s basically taught by our parents the first time we see a celebrity out in public
Neither of these opinions are controversial, its probably the two most common ways people behave.
I saw Deamau5 in London a few days ago. Made eye contact, subtle nod and a smile, and we moved on. For me that’s the best type of interaction.
Was he wearing the mouse head?
obviously, duh 🐭😵
Met Gene Ween at the Denver Airport. We were waiting at the gate together, so I struck up a conversation about visiting my dad in NY for Father’s Day. No talk of music, no talk about fandom or anything. No pictures. We caught each other’s glances after deboarding in NY and did a quick “what’s up” nod and parted ways.
The boognish
but if you don’t tell people on the internet about it, did it really happen?
Shut uuuup
RAISE YOUR GUN
I saw Steve Blake at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Especially in LA. Normal people know better. Ignore them; give a head nod if your eyes catch; fist bump or dap if you’re a real fan and you just can’t help yourself.
Russ is allowed to give his time to whomever he wants to. I don’t care how anxious you are about meeting celebrities.
At the end of the day, the fans, media and influencers like this guy are why he has millions.
He has millions because he is more talented than 99.999% of humans at basketball and capitalized on that talent. Nothing about that says “sign me up to be harassed everywhere I go”. I would agree with you for show business related careers (actors, directors, musicians, etc.) but not for athletes.
Exactly, weird redditors have this idea that the richer you are, the more harassment you’re allowed to experience
Gotta chase him down with a camera recording that would piss me off you could tell Russell was really struggling not to be an asshole to this guy. I’m sure this guy just walks around Beverley Hills waiting to film the next celeb. “I’m a fan” bullshit
I think its worse. He was prepared to run into Russ and ask him specifics on Westbrook academy, so this dude was stalking him and knew his schedule.
There’s a fucking fantastic John Cena fan interaction that calls this out perfectly. Dude politely comes up to ask him if he can get a picture, while already filming him, and John absolutely puts him in his place!
He doesn’t want footage of him going Barkley on this guy.
Don’t know why people do this
Money over morals
It’s their income believe it or not
social media and influencer shit so cancerous
Paparazzi pre-date social media by a lot, believe it or not
Social media has honestly been the most regressive “innovation” in awhile.
It’s a net negative to society, yet these tech giants reaped in billions for it.
Because places like this sub eat it up.
It might be pre planned to look normal
basically a paparazzi pretending to be a fan.
He is a big tik toker. I think Russ might be in on it.
Social media is so fake
Leave him alone.
I don’t see how this is really wholesome. Dude literally walks up to him filming and with a professional camera asking to take pictures and having specific questions already lined up. Dude stalked him
It’s very wholesome for the two brain cells rattling around in the OPs head.
Bro did you even listen to the music??
This is from like 4 years ago right? I remember seeing this a while back
Used to see him in OKC all the time. He was nice. Just fist bump and move on.
Adding nostalgic background music doesn’t make you any less of an annoying paparazzi
“Hey I’m already taking a video sticking a camera in your face can I take a video of you tho…. oh wait hold up I gotta edit in some shitty music”
Can’t park there Russ
when you’re rich you can park wherever you want.
sad but true. their parking fine is the same as yours and mine
Sad how so many will joke about westbrooks career when looking back at it.
Dude was absolutely a top player in the league for a decade straight but gets clowned on like he was always overrated.
Papparazis are fucking weird
Surprised there’s no security with him. I could never just pull up on someone lol.
I don’t know how people could do this. I have social anxiety and me running up to somebody especially a celebrity would be a big no no lmao.
But it was cool how he allowed him to take the photos🤷🏿
Social media age has just imploded self shame and we need to bring it back.
I saw Spencer Hawes at the mall in high school and was like hey Spencer and he shook my hand and said Merry Christmas man. I felt awkward in hindsight and should have just left him alone.
I am once again asking Russell Westbrook to drop the skincare routine
Nothing about this is “wholesome”
And it’s not on Westbrook why
That’s a nice ride
That’s not a fan
If I’m a public figure, I’m steering clear of talking to any dude who just walks up with meta glasses on
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about Africa?
“im not from Africa you’re from Africa you African booty scratcher”
you African booty scratcher
Brother, tell me you’re about 45 without telling me you’re about 45
People run to Reddit to make their corny jokes and act surprised when they’re addressed
Brother tell me you don’t enjoy the quotes of an LA classic without telling me you perhaps are a African booty scratcher yourself
Agree with all the comments re leaving Russ alone when he’s made it clear he doesn’t wanna engage… but what’s with the parking in a red zone!! Im at Rodeo every so often and wouldn’t dare. Tsk tsk Russ
No that wasnt wholesome. That is just another piece of shit paparazzi trying to leech money and harassing someone in public.
Russ is totally parked illegally (in the red). Nice guy though.
It could’ve been “wholesome” if he didn’t continued to follow him after Westbrook mentions that he’s going to get his kids from school.
With that being said, and it’s been known for a long time, despite his on court personna, it really feels like Westbrook is a super chill dude off the court
Russ literally tells him he can do what he needs to do while he is walking to his car. Do people comprehend things anymore?
This wasn’t wholesome and the pictures aren’t even great lol what
always a nice guy Russ…
He asks “Can I take your photo?” while already filming him.
I couldn’t handle being famous, you can’t even snap at dickheads
Absolutely love Russ
I love Russ so much. I know he’s a flawed basketball player, but damn was he fun to watch and damn if he’s not a good human.
Balling like a motherfucker…
You kow if any of these players or celebs said no, they would be crucified
Wouldn’t want anyone coming up to me and film me while asking questions
Real spiderman
Was Rus parked in the fire lane?
Shoutout Westbrook
We love him here in OKC! ❤️
This is like years old lol
Beverly Hills, that’s where I want to be
I’ve made fun of Russ for his adventurous fashion sense over the years, but I’ll admit he looks cool as hell here.
lol my dude parked in the red
Sleezy but Russ was very kind
Great guy !!
Ive met him a few times over the years and hes always super nice.
Imagine having to deal w that shit everything you step out of the house to go buy something
Hes an LA boy born n raised leave him alone
Edit before y’all get snippy about long beach not being in LA county.
What up Urkel.
Is this the same guy on social media that goes around taking portraits of people, then prints it out to give to them?
He was nice for 2 minutes and now he blows up. Karma.
Just let the man be buns in peace
Love seeing moments like this because it shows the person behind the superstar, and Russ always seems to make fans feel seen ❤️
Russ looking like he was bricking it
“Wholesome’? This is corny as fuck..
People acting like the camera guy is the asshole, when it been for decades the viewers/fans who get the camera guy paid to do this. Stop obsessing over “celebrities” lifestyles and every move.
No one is begging for this trash “content.”
You think making money from something means you can’t be an asshole for doing it?
i thought westbrook would be rich enough to buy a car better than a maybach (Lambo / Ferrari)
What a stupid take. Is he supposed to take a Lamborghini or Ferrari to pickup his kids from school? And nobody worth hundreds of millions of dollars is obligated to buy those types of cars, lol.
I wouldn’t buy a supercar if I was rich, I don’t care about going fast and would much rather ride in comfort/luxury
Maybe he doesn’t give a f about meeting your standards for what kind of car you think rich people should drive
