76ers announcers thank Russell Westbrook for bricking the game winner
One of the darkest periods of my fandom.
Edit: Folks, I understand that some of your teams had worse records. Westbrook was just frustrating to watch. That is all.
For real. Genuinely made me feel like basketball hated me for showing me that
Basketball can hate you a whole lot more than this, let me assure you
Yeah you’re right. I could’ve been a Clippers fan. Dodged that
Trevor lane said it best: the 21-22 season is one of the worst lakers seasons, relative to expectations. On paper, we should’ve been a playoff team at minimum.
Turns out, it was a murphy’s law season. Everything that could’ve gone wrong, did.
It was absolutely dreadful to watch as a fan.
My darkest is Chris Kaman laying on the bench all alone
[deleted]
Westbrook era was worse. I had no expectations in 2016.
This is one of the darkest periods of your fandom?
Lakers fans live in their own world.
…Do Knicks fans not also live in their own world?
I don’t think any other fanbase would claim that a 33 win team and getting to watch one of the greatest players of all time every night two years after winning a championship are the darkest days they’ve experienced as a fan.
Westbrook was frustrating to watch.
My team won 17 games twice in a 5 year span…
Personally I don’t wanna hear shit from either of y’all because neither of your fanbases knows true despair
I mean it’s not Clippers level but the Knicks were objectively the losingest team of the 21st century up until like, 2023.
Definitely not watching your whole team go into the stands and throw punches…
The team went from 58% winning percentage despite injuries to 40%
As a Laker fan it was much more enjoyable when the team was actively tanking because the expectations I had for the team were significantly lower.
You won the championship and fell to a pathetic 40% two years later? How do you even manage to get out of bed in the morning?
I don’t know why you’re pretending to not get it. It’s worse when your expectations aren’t met. The fact that they were a championship level team with the same top two guys is why it sucked so hard. Maybe you’ll understand if the Knicks win 33 games this year
Kobe and his daughter died in a helicopter crash but that’s nothing compared to having to watch Russell Westbrook for a season
Bruh that’s completely unrelated to basketball… Again I ask why you’re determined to not get this?
I’m just wondering if Lakers fans see how they sound saying these are the dark days
He was retired at the time, so it’s a big deal for fans of the player, but pretty insignificant to fans of the teams he played for.
Knicks fans may be somewhat fucked in the head but at least they know true misery, a feeling Lakers fans have never known
I’m not even arguing Lakers fans have never had it bad. They were objectively bad from when Kobe tore his Achilles up to getting Lebron (and even the first Lebron year).
I’m just saying if your worst days are that the team was kinda bad two years after winning a title you probably should have some perspective.
THE for me. What was worse in your opinion?
Honestly with Westbrook on my mind now, it’s tough to think of anything else😂
Kobe Achilles tear up through getting Lebron, which included your first round draft pick breaking his leg in Game 1 of a season.
Not really the point I’m getting at. I’m just saying do you see how ridiculous you sound saying your darkest days are that you won a championship but the window was shorter than you thought it would be.
Honestly my bad I didn’t even mean to respond to you. I was talking to op. I have no interest in your opinion
Get em.
😂 yea I didn’t mean to reply to the struggle Olympics gold medalist
They didn’t say it was THE darkest lol
That is absolutely wild.
This was his entire Laker tenure in a nutshell. It was 1.5 years of whatever the fuck that play in the clip was every single night.
Thanks, Pelinka.
Win, lose, or draw
Keep having fun. Except no one was having fun :,)
There’s a reason everyone called him Russell Westbrick during that entire run.
It always amazes/angers me when I see people on here saying he was the scapegoat for that team. Of course he wasn’t the only problem but holy crap was he easily the biggest.
Did he even look for a teammate? Bro just was in his own world. Passing was never a thought.
I mean did you see the video? Nobody was doing anything
Just like they drew it
yeah it’s kinda surprising lebron didn’t try to set a screen for him or get the ball, did he have a press conference post game where anyone asked?
Bluds standing there like the Sadar Patel statue of unity in India
Because they knew Brick was going to keep the ball and do some dumbass shit like he always does
You right, should have ran up to him and took the ball out his hand since no one was requesting the ball when wide open like Dennis when Russell looked at him and decided to iso against a big man.
Sentence hurts my brain
I know common sense does that to some people
Read your paragraph bro, it’s gibberish.
you might disagree with it but it’s clearly understandable what he’s saying
Ngl it’s a bit hard to understand but it’s definitely not gibberish. All that’s lacking is punctuation
He was trying to pass it out to the corner, Niang made a nice rotation to break it up
Dumbest and most selfish player during this time
keep having fun bro
Brons reaction always kills me bro😂😂😂
Brons “be greedy” speech was hitting hard the team was ready to run back onto the court and wait there for their next opponent. It was going to be something you put in the background of a motivational video to get your mindset right. Then Westbrick interrupts him mid sentence with that bullshit and completely brings the whole rallying cry to a screeching halt. 😂
Getting paid tens of millions of dollars a year to have fun
Russell Westbrick
Magic said it himself!
thanks, Magic
but all the basketball heads on reddit are telling me westbrook deserves to be a starter right now and any team would be lucky to have him.
I haven’t seen people arguing Russ should be a starter in like, 3 years. Just that he’s still decent off the bench.
He needs to run that whole bench and the ball. There’s a reason why the nuggets asked him to decline his player option lol and the Kings potentially might not resign him on a MINIMUM. That says a lot. I love Russ passion for basketball, but it’s sad because his style of play isn’t winning basketball at his age.
That’s a completely different conversation than saying he should be a starter.
“Why did the lakers make Westbrook the scapegoat?”
OKC would have had a title way sooner if they didn’t have Westbrook ball hogging. He lost them so many playoff games when all he needed to do was give the ball to KD.
Deep down, I’m pretty sure KD realized this too
I disagree. I think they are both losers. Regular season giants who come up small in the playoffs. KD has constantly blamed everyone else his entire career but he’s the one always losing. Kyrie won with out him and at least got to a finals. The warriors won a lot with out him. I think it’s clear the rockets would be a better team with two 25 million dollar players than 1 Kd. He’s just not a championship player. Neither is westbrook. That thunder team had they stayed together may have ended up the buffalo bills of the nba.
Peak lakers Russ
Should’ve called a timeout.
They had 2 timeouts, surely no one on that floor thought an isolation against Joel Embiid is the best they could get
Darvin Ham had his hands in his pockets
Ofc the Lakers had a timeout, Hamas must’ve had his hands in his pockets
Wasn’t this ruled a foul post game?
Westbrook was fouled here
gotta start having trigger warnings when you post this kinda shit bruh
Seriously. This is trauma I’ve already let go. I can only never forget the side of the backboard shots unfortunately
you can’t take the bonehead out of the player.
whats with all the westbrook hate posts recently? lol
He supplies lot of material
In fairness, the sixers left Westbrook one on one with Joel embiid in an iso. Westbrook should be able to get by him and score pretty easy. Embiid played really good defense on that play.
Don’t get em wrong, I would never have Westbrook taking a final shot and that’s probably why the sixers left him in that position so he would. But it wasn’t a terrible shot selection overall.
The charitable read is that he was setting up a lob pass
Russ was passing it
Super smart to pass it after dribbling for 8 of the 10 seconds that were left in the game.
Typical Brick.
He’s not a pass first person, just someone who looks for either a point, rebound or assist. Russ is about Russ, winning and losing is just an after effect.
this is the guy Bron wanted
He was going hard on them dudes
The Russ period sucked. I am absolutely a hater of his still after that period
And ya’ll wonder why he hated this fucking clown. Typical Brick boneheaded ass play
WB had a 22 11 11 season and got the wiz into the playoffs and joined a team with 2 supposed top 10 players on their team as lebron thought he’d be making another superteam. And they still missed the playoffs. That 2022 lakers team was fuckin hilarious
I’m fine with a woman doing play by play, but could the Sixers find one that doesn’t sound like a ten year old boy?
6ers announcers are some of the most obnoxious and biased in the league.
Westbrook haters are the worst and lowest among us. Genuinely I think they’re awful people.
How does disliking an inefficient, overpaid, low bbiq player mean you’re a Bad person? It’s basketball, dude
Y’all are cancer and don’t know crap about, or like, the sport. Plain and simple.
Weren’t Knicks fans just beating up fans of other teams? Lmfao
If for some reason the Knicks FO collectively dropped IQs and sign Westbrook, I hope you have that same energy.
