[Highlight] Every Jalen Brunson basket on Victor Wembanyama in the 2026 NBA Finals.
it’s like reliving hell
>>>yeah i have a 22 year old potential goat candidate who turned down the supermax and two other all star level players and just made the finals before anyone could have reasonably expected >>>i’m in hell
Making the finals again is not a guarantee. Look at Harden, CP3, Westbrook
Sure but they’re in a better position than basically any finals loser in history. If you think like this then basically not winning the championship is hell and you might as well stop following the nba and become a Bayern Munich fan
Huge runner-up fan, here (go Dortmund btw)
I mean, Thunder finals loser with Harden, Westbrook and Durant is pretty dang similar.
Not really because OKC traded harden after the finals.
Well yeah, aware of that. Until they traded Harden who just wanted to start, they were arguably better positioned.
Obviously the harden trade was a disaster, but the Thunder were a better team the year after they traded him.
2013 Thunder also didn’t have a deaaron fox level player on a max contract and the aprons didn’t exist.
You literally ignored them
I’ve been assured by Knicks fans that our team is a bunch of chokers so hopefully the basketball gods bless us again
I’m a Heat fan but I won’t try to assure you that your team is a bunch of chokers because I watched the finals and your team isn’t a bunch of chokers but rather a unit of chokers working in semblance to choke under a choke coach.
Or they were just young in their first playoff run coming off a grueling 7 game series with one of the best teams in the league. They can grow
They’re a heat fan that doesn’t know how to flair up. Thinking more than 1 step ahead at a time is asking a lot.
I agree, but this series specifically was miserable. 29 points man
Frankly, if you guys never win a ring with this core, losing this series will not be close to the biggest disappointment, assuming everyone progresses normally / is reasonably healthy
How long was it between the Knicks winning? 53 years? Who knows when you’ll have a chance again.
They just won a championship, I’m sure they’ll be fine.
Dw yall gonna be scary next year fr fr lil bro
Forrealz bruh
Don’t patronize
We evidently can’t talk our shit either, or we offend other fanbases. Especially because it’s the Knicks.
This sub grew up with lolknicks and can’t cope that we’re top dog now
Wemby on defense was heaven, the other side was hell. Both teams had a 108.9 offensive rating and one team did it without playing against Wemby. Wemby should have played way better on offense.
Some dude just posted our 27 missed 3s. I hate everyone.
it’s like reliving heaven
We got you guys back for 1999. It devastated me to see the Knicks lose as a little kid
You got to be trolling
Knicks did a great job of attacking Wemby. He blocked a ton of shots and played great defense throughout, but they refused to play scared.
By challenging him they were able to tire him out a bit. So many teams just don’t go after him and it throws their whole offense in a spin. I get it - Wemby is a beast but you have to force the issue.
Not only that but he’s much more devastating as a help defender at the rim than when he’s on-ball. Spurs entire defense is based on Wemby being under the basket and he is very good at communicating switches so he can lurk in the paint. NYK were very prepared and figured out some ways to force him outside more than usual, and made a conscious effort to attack him any time he ended up on the perimeter in order to get the defense in rotation.
And he’s by far their best defensive rebounder
Every spurs fan having war flashbacks to game 4
It’s like watching an elite boxer in his prime repeatedly jabbing an up and coming star. Its to bad they won’t meet when the Spurs peak.
Most teams don’t have 5+ capable ball handlers, multiple big man shooters, and four guys who can go off for 30+ frequently.
Knicks have an insanely balanced roster
People don’t realize how much had to go right to put together this roster. Everyone fixates on Brunson’s “paycut” but both Mikal and OG had to be underpaid on their previous contracts so that they could be acquired without losing too much depth. And OG had to be on a team that delays trading assets until their value is at their lowest for the Knicks to still retain enough picks for the Mikal trade.
By challenging him they were able to tire him out a bit.
You see that very clearly in the last clip in this vid. Wemby’s knees were buckling like it was the morning after his first ever leg day.
Also if you try and avoid wemby all the time basically their defense worked.
It didn’t help that Wemby got no rest because Kornet was a complete negative this series. Brunson and KAT were at least able to take breathers and have Robinson or Alvarado come in
I dont think kornet played bad, its just that the knicks would play there normal offense because of him. Everything i would watch him check in the knicks played how they have been during the playoffs. Spurs couldn’t take wemby out because he was the only thing they had to adjust for.
I think you’re giving him too much grace. He repeatedly got blown by on the pnr and he couldn’t even grab the ball on rebounds. He would regularly tip the ball on the rebound instead of just grabbing it and half the time it falls right into someone on the Knicks.
Knicks are good rebounders in general, wheb you watched them throughout the playoffs they abused teams in pnr, if kat wasnt in foul trouble in the finals you would see the same thing. Having webmy than going to any other big there would be a massive drop-off that you cant recreate.
Timberwolves started doing it as well, but they just didnt have the healthy bodies to keep it up
Yup great coaching by the Knicks. Almost every other team avoids him on defense. They realized how you beat him is tiring him out bc he gives 100% on D and I feel like he doesn’t deny the switch bc he trusts himself in a 1v1. But that makes him exhausted and he struggles to get boards, make free throws, really do anything end of game.
This puts into perspective how important the pull up 3 is for most of these ball handling guards. Brunson only scores in the paint on 2 of these shots and both are difficult as hell. Meanwhile the 3s are almost all good shots.
I remember back in Dallas his pull up 3 was never this good and how that was the biggest tool he unlocked when he went East.
and pull up middies and long floaters. point of attack defenders will just start hounding from the perimeter all the way to the rim where wemby’s already waiting. so any shotmaker worth their salt has to be able to just shoot from anywhere as soon as they feel there is enough separation.
It’s why I thought Brunson was a little better equipped for the spurs than SGA, the pull up jumper is pretty much the only shot they don’t defend extremely well
It’s partially that. The Knicks also have more consistent shooting and driving threats around him also did a lot. The one play I think back to of this comp is the one at 18 seconds. A play or two before this shot Victor overplayed an OG 3 and OG took him off the dribble. Next time Victor plays for the drive, only for Brunson to pull it without hesitation.
It helps that Brunson was getting a semblance of help from the rest of his team
If you cant get to the paint being able to just purely get up ok shots is massive. Brunson can go 11⁄30 but those 30 shots are shots he can make vs someone like og struggling to put up a shot in iso
And 11⁄30 is still reasonable offense! It’s not elite, but 33 points for 30 possessions (with the added bonus of chaotic long rebounds) is absolutely fine offense for a playoff setting.
Not much you can do about most of these. Just super tough shotmaking.
But the same thing happens to 37 year old James Harden and people try and send him to the gulags
CTFU.
Some viewers base their reactions off the outcome and not the process itself.
They’ll glaze a bad play if it works and then criticize a good play if it doesn’t work.
Results based analysis is the worst part about discussing basketball.
Why? Kobe made a killing putting up terrible shots.
If it’s part of your package and you can hit it consistently it’s a good shot for you. A high difficulty 3 for steph is different from some normal 3 point shooter.
Exactly 💯.
It also forces the defense to play up and creates open looks for your teammates.
Brunson was very effective at this even though his shooting percentage was bad on paper.
He was constantly creating pressure
Exactly. That is why stats do not tell the whole story.
The point is to win lmao wtf are you talking about
If you set up the perfect pass to your team mate, and he goes for a good look but it misses like any 3 point can, and you lose the game, the play was still the correct decision. The outcome of a shot doesn’t change what led up to the shot. You can only control the lead up, but sometimes a good shot doesn’t go in and a bad shot does.
People vilified PG for years for saying it’s a bad shot but their defense was so good they forced dame to take a high risk low percentage shot.
Yeah, if the Knicks had lost the finals, which honestly is not a far-off scenario given the close scores, people would be ragging on Brunson’s 53 TS% in the series and calling him a bricklayer. Instead, he’s an ice-cold killer.
4-1 isn’t close
Its literally the lowest point diferencial in a 4 x 1 series in NBA history. And then there’s the stats that by the 46th minutes of 4 of the 5 games Spurs was winning. It was a REALLY close series.
“That’s a bad shot”
Is James Harden a unanimous DPOY?
No that’s why it’s fucking insane how many times Cleveland left him on an island to defend Jalen Brunson for some reason.
thats making my point big dog lol
Exactly. Wemby did his job on defense. Brunson had to dig deep in his bag to score in the series, as did everyone else on both teams. Really came down to the less experienced team flinching at the knife’s edge
A lot of those shots Brunson is considered open because Wemby is 3ft away.
The first 2 of these are not in the NBA Finals lol.
40 second video and it’s still misinformation lol
not even from this or last season lmao.
Still cant believe Dallas had Brunson and Luka together. Generational fumble.
They made the finals two seasons after the trade. I don’t think that was a fumble.
The real fumble was not trying to improve the team that got to the finals
Thats fair. We just have a small sample size of how good Brunson and Luka were together. If they resigned Brunson, could they have won a chip together in Dallas that year? If they kept both, would they win a chip later? Maybe. We’ll never know. Dallas losing both of them for basically nothing is why I think it’s a generational fumble.
Yeah. That’s a much fairer assessment.
I understand that it’s hard to get into the weed of things in one reddit comment. I think I wouldn’t have said anything if you had this comment at the bottom of your first comment 😄
Well they did try to “improve” the team (according to Nico Harrison)
They tried to improve it they simply decided to make the dumbest trade in nba history after this for no reason
He’s like the Mariano Rivera of basketball. You should be able to stop this… yet here we are.
Dude is just so good. This squad has a nice window as well
5-15 from 3 when Wemby was the closest defender according to nba.com and 33% from the field. I think that’s really good defense for a big on the perimeter
Yeah even these shots none of them are easy, either pretty damn deep 3s or very contested.
More like really good offense for a 6’1 guard going against a 7’6 guy with a insanely long 8-foot wingspan(almost same wingspan to height differential as j-dub), and wembys mobility
I mean historically small guards cook bigs but Wemby is quite unique
Really good offense would be someone like Steph in my opinion tho. Wemby can’t get into your body on the perimeter like a poa defender so truly elite pull up shooters can punish him. Brunson is bothered a lot by wembys length because he struggles to blow by him and also isn’t an elite pull up shooter
Stephen curry…… cooks everyone lmao
Yeah. Another example would be Ant. Even injured he shot 7% better from the field when guarded by Wemby than Brunson. Even tho he went 1-7 from 3
Healthy Ant is one of the worst matchups for Wemby and we struggle with him in the regular season
Yeah it’s also because Castle can’t guard Ant or Curry
Problem is his 4th qtr numbers. Knicks lived with him being wemby for 3 qtrs at the price of sustainability.
Also having 5 guys… they tried to give him plays off on guys like Josh but he also attacked.
That’s wildly impressive for Wemby. Centers are not supposed to be that good against shifty guards
Don’t forget his shooting wrist was all fucked up and needed surgery. Who knows how much that affected his shooting, especially from 3.
Repeats don’t happen anymore bud. And your squad is materially weaker already.
wtf lol shut your bitter ass up
lol Lakers fan
That last bucket was something else in terms of skill, footwork, and technique
The slow mo shot is one of my fav ever. He goes so deep into his bag and just hits Wemby with everything he got.
Wemby still only missed the block by centimeters
Everyone is better than Brunson until it’s time to be better than Brunson
The only guy to pass this test was Haliburton, right?
He gets all the attention for the buzzer beaters, but pascal was the real killer against us
I still think we should’ve had more of Precious on him for defense
Year 1 was all injuries that hampered us, but year 2 was Pascal mismatches killing us on top of role players going crazy. Josh didn’t have the size and OG had a rare instance of not shutting someone down
We win the first year with this years medical team and arresting jaime before he assaulted Julius. Year 2 was lightning in a bottle for them
The Knicks win the series in 2024 if OG stays healthy.
We are at the very least playing a game 7 if Nesmith doesn’t go 6-6 from 3 in the last three minutes of game 1.
Haliburton was a passenger in last years victory over The Knicks not the bus driver
Legendary
Like watching a kid score against an adult
Funny cause it’s more like the opposite
If you’re shooting 33% from the field vs a kid as an adult just stop hooping and hang it up
What the heck are you yapping about
Porque so salty 🤣
The 2nd one was a regular season game
Apparently the first two were as well
Uncalled flagrant on that 3pt shot can’t fuckin call fouls on the NBA golden boy
this shit still pisses me off
and wemby looks goofy as hell trying to block some of these shots especially that last layup
Please stop, I’m already hurt
Im amazed how you all presume wemby will deny 100% pull up jumpers.
I’m gonna pull up some Westbrook playoff highlights. He surely shot super good percentages on those cool ass deep 3s right?
Brunson had a very mid offensive series but nobody wants to talk about that yet lol
Mid but dropped 45 to clinch lmao
happy for you to talk about it 😂
Jalen Marquis Brunson
Still can’t believe the Knicks actually won
I still can’t believe they came back from down 30
Show the misses too.
You just want to see OG’s tip
The man is a wizard. He’s gonna go down as one of the great small guards.
bro just launching it
40 seconds of big game hunting. That’s my FMVP.
33% from the field big game hunting
The very last thing you saw this basketball season was him raining 45 all over your team at your home court on a close out game, how could you forget?
I think you’re also leaving out the FMVP and the ring, too.
FMVP stolen from OG smh
Knicks where the better team tho
I could also be a big game hunter if I was allowed to miss 67% of the time tho
That’s great, man.
According to nba.com he shot 42% from the field and 38 from three. What stats are you using?
Matchup data?
Are you sure you are looking at him on offense vs Wemby. You might be looking at his defensive matchup data vs Wemby instead
This is specifically when Wemby was his primary defender. Brunson evidently had better results against the other Spurs
For 50 years the way we determined the best player was by playoff runs and winning championships while having big moments in them along with stats. Until lebron couldn’t win them consistently enough now it’s only stats that matter. Brunson should be unanimously on everyone’s top 3 but they say his counting numbers are more important than actually winning.
Clealry he should join the wizards and statpad to 32ppg every year if he wants to climb up the all time rankings. The amount of people who swore wemby was gonna win it all to saying “he was too young to win anyways” in the span of 2 weeks is staggering. It goes to show most people create their rankings lists based on how much they like somebody and not based on what happened and what the consensus narratives were before the series started
Some of these were from the regular season
King of New York
The clutch shot over Wemby to bring it to one is so legendary.
I get the sense in the last two months, every general practitioner and ER doctor in New York City has begun to hate the phrase “It’s lasted more than four hours.”
ILY
Guarded by the best defenders on every team and treats them all like food . They can have some good defensive possessions against him but in the end Brunson figures them out
He was automatic. You just knew in the 4th Quarter that his shots were going to land.
Well this is a great sight to start my day!
I think he should press up fully and give up the two
two is less than three
DPOY with that length still gonna get cooked on an island by smaller guards. Theyre just too quick.
Wemby is a lot of things but twitchy and quick arent one of them.
They actually shot much worse on him than highlights suggest
Fuck yeah
the quality looks like it is from 1995 or 2005.
that said, that last basket. crazy.
How my ass taste Wemby
Looks easy!
“it was inexperience bro, they were the better team”
Enter Sandman. The Mo of basketball.
Aside from Jokic and Embiid (when he was healthy), I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else get the better of Wemby consistently. Jalen Brunson was on one
that second to last clip is just dirty as hell, how the hell did the refs not call flagrant on wemby there 😭😭😭 that’s textbook zaza landing space foul WITH clear intent
BBQ Chicken
shot clock at 5, brunson puts up a three….
Brunson drops it into the bowl… BANG!
Born to play basketball 🏀
Hand down man down
Brunson was absolutely terrified of the paint he would always dribble out. Vik could’ve stepped up on these and contested the drive from behind if needed
I means it’s not like Brunson shot amazing when guarded by Wemby. I think most of these where good contests and his series percentages agree
This is a clinic on adjusting play based on defender. Wemby is too lanky to be a wall and obstruct shots. He’s clumsy and large on defense so the arm flies up late and is way too high to block the view.
Wemby will have to work on defense if this is exposed. This happened to Lebron after getting figured out by Popovich and the Spurs in 07. By 09 Lebron was a runner up for DPOY.
Brunson shot 33% against Wemby. Hard to ask for better results from your center
Dude is working his argument around the results. I doubt he’d be saying this if the Spurs won those one-point games, even if the stats don’t change. Might even say Wemby locked him up lol
I immediately got 3 responses saying that I said Wemby’s bad defense is why they lost to the Knicks.
I did not say that or infer that. I said the Knicks and Brunson had timed him and found a single weakness they could exploit. I believe these are bots.
According to this, he shot 11⁄33 on FGs and 5⁄15 on 3s and no FTs (40.9 TS%) against Wemby. How much of a weakness is that really? Seems like your argument is just outcome bias.
And also, just because people disagree with you doesn’t mean they’re bots. It would’ve been better if you actually cited stats to back up your claim that Wemby’s defense was indeed a weakness.
If this is bad defense and brunson only shot 5-15 from 3 think about how good he will be when he actually learns how to be a good defender and not get exposed
/s
Dawg, Wemby has enough PR. He doesn’t need more.
You’re all over the place ITT fighting the good fight, I get it. Just let it go man. You guys will definitely have more chances, tho. Future is bright!
I am bored AF in an airport. Let me troll some Knicks fans in peace smh
Also the Brunson hype has been kinda insane. He’s the face of the team and all but OG and Kat where legit just as good as him in that finals series in my opinion
He dropped 45 to eliminate y’all in your own house
Yes he had a great game
But I also think Kat was better for the first 2 games and OG was better in games 3 and 4
Yeah the Knicks are awesome I love my team 🤗
I’m not a knicks fan and didn’t give Brunson any credit. I was comparing Wemby as a budding player who clearly got figured out parallel to Lebron in 07. I’m a small Wemby fan and just like watching well coached teams.
“Clearly got figured out” is just horseshit bro lmao
It’s crazy bro. Brunson’s hero ball playstyle was the reason they lost any games at all. KAT and OG locking up Wemby and our guards was the primary reason they won.
You don’t know ball even a smidge if you think Victor Wembanyama’s defense was a single reason the Spurs didn’t win lmao
Never made that inference. I’m a Wemby fan who compared him to 07 Lebron and said there’s room to grow. The Knicks figured out how to beat him and I don’t believe it was Brunson to figure it out. I’m hot for good coachable moments and potential.
Brunson’s hot streak goes back to Cleveland, but he was guarded by Harden. Knicks coaches figured that Wemby has a slow recovery time and that forces him to delay reaction time with his giant lanky ass arms and body.
I’m sure Brunson also had momentum from an Cleveland, but watching Wemby against the Knicks felt like Lebron in 07 in the sense that they exploited Lebron’s weakness. Then Lebron brushed himself off and was runner up for DPOY 2 seasons later.
Don’t show this to the poor Spurs fans
lol I think we’ll be fine
No our team led by a 22 year old didn’t win the championship their first play off run :(
The amount of hating shows how scared they are lol
There’s just a lot of Knicks fans. Everything any Wemby fan says will get this treatment. I’d still rather have Wemby on my team and no ring than Brunson lol
This shows that no matter how otherworldly Wemby is most of the times, he’s just a dude and he tires out like anyone else. Just keep attacking. He’s still young and will only get better so we got him at a good time.
Wemby also doesn’t have MJ’s or LeBron’s superhuman stamina. He looked exhausted at the end of games. Signing a real PF should really help next season
Too small.
Brunson cooked Wemby all series. Offense always beats defense. As a Spurs fan I admit that Brunson is better than Wemby
lol he only scored 10 buckets on him over the course of 5 matchs ….
You have to include assists here, Wemby was getting cooked forcing other players to help
3 assists and two turnovers according here
He missed 67% of his attempts when guarded by Wemby
As a fellow Spurs fan, it’s OK to admit wemby didn’t have a great Finals 👍
Brunson didn’t even have a great finals
He didn’t even say Wemby had a great series. He just cited a fact that Brunson did indeed hit only 33% of his shots with Wemby as the primary defender. It’s on NBA’s website as well. You’re just cucking for upvotes
Lmao if you swap Bruson with Wemby the Spurs are even worse in the finals!
Knicks were absolutely the better TEAM.
That baby giraffe one always makes me feel giddy inside
