Former NBA standout Monta Ellis, who played in the league for more than a decade without playing college basketball, will serve as general manager at Alcorn State this season, the school announced Friday.

Alcorn State, an HBCU that finished 9-23 last year, is near the home of the Mississippi native who starred at Lanier High School in Jackson, Mississippi, before the Golden State Warriors selected him with the 40th pick in the 2005 NBA draft.

Kerr chose the Warriors because of the talent on the roster. He said it was hard to say no to Phil Jackson since they’re close from their time together in Chicago, but he ultimately went with which team had the better roster. He did an interview once where he said that many of his friends (including Rick Carlisle) told him to take the Warriors job for that very reason. He said the thought process was “Don’t go to a place just because Phil is there, go to where Phil would go if he were in your place.”

I’m not sure which Carlisle interview you’re talking about. But in the one he did on Draymond’s pod recently (based on just the clip I watched) Carlisle said it was because the Knicks didn’t give him a fourth year on the deal, and that the Warriors roster was talented enough to go to the conference finals already. No mention of the triangle.
