We look back to this Warriors team as an almighty dynasty but the Warriors weren’t solidified as a dynasty until 2018. Arguably the most dominant team ever built going 2⁄4 in winning titles would be an absurd narrative but it wasn’t that far from happening.
I do think Iguodala’s injury this series opened up a lot more doors than it should’ve, but the Warriors had their fair share of luck as well with CP3 hurt and the 27 3s.

Ariza missed some good shots. Harden and Gordon took awful shots. Harden was also trying his hardest to get fouled. In those days (during the regular season) he would get 2-3 fouls a game at the 3 point line and would just shoot free-throws endlessly, at about 98% accuracy. But those calls dried up in the playoffs so he would just take bad shots
This is what happens when as an organization you punish players for taking mid range shots. They went too far with the analytics and I remember that time because many Rocket fans became religious fanatics with that stuff.

The rockets had spent all year operating off of Chris Paul running the offense and getting them great looks, then suddenly at the most important time, he was tragically injured, and the offense had to continue without the engine that had kept it running. This is what that looks like.
Yup, and if your rewatch that series CP3 was absolutely cooking them, they had no answer for Paul and the basketball gods saved them from the eventual loss. He was majestic in that series and no way he doesnt setup 5-10 easy buckets if he plays.

I forgot about this but a lot of the shots the Rockets took this game were just bad. That started to change towards the end of the game, definitely some open looks they missed, but honestly it doesn’t surprise me that the Rockets didn’t convert some of these possessions into 3’s. Chris Paul’s absence and the Warriors defense definitely helped make this tragedy a reality.
