I used to have a friend who would do Yelp reviews and her focus was always on stuff like the decor of the restaurant or the look of the servers, it was never about what the food actually tasted like. I once made the mistake of taking her to a place that had been around for almost a century and was a local landmark, known for its amazing food, and she gave it a horrible review because of how “old” the place looked. Her favorite restaurants were places like the Cheesecake Factory because she liked the decor.

I am friends with a Clippers season ticket holder (hard to believe but they exist). He’s super delusional of the Clippers every year. And of course he’s trying to deflect the investigation by saying every team does this.

The tribal behavior in sports gets tiring

All fans are delusional. There is no difference. If anything, you can see how some of the raptors fans changed from “ban Kawhi from the NBA” to “15 games suspension” after the trade. That’s just sports fans in general.

It is a genuinely thoughtful thing to do. Especially considering other potential uses of the space could be more purely commercial either as places to put ads or merch stores and such.

It’s kind of sad that we get an owner who’s cool with paying for his own stadium, and put a lot of work into making it super customer friendly, but then goes and does this shit with the obvious cap circumvention.

Makes it pretty clear how ok these guys are with cheating to win, and makes you wonder what other examples are out there in their business lives. Pablo really is the man for digging this up because surely there have been examples of foul play in Ballmer’s business career that journalism in those industries have been too afraid or in bed with Ballmer to report on.

This is a funny take to me… this guy has essentially all but photographically been proven to be ruining the spirit of the game and written rules of the league to put other teams (and players who seek contracts) at a disadvantage but he’s a good owner because he didn’t fire people and is a billionaire who decided to not reap more money from the public…

The honest answer to your question is the other owners would be the ones to take someone’s team away, and they don’t want to set a precedent that could lead to their own team being taken away from them someday. Lost in all the shit with how Donald Sterling sold the Clippers to Ballmer was that it was his wife who had him declared incompetent and then sold it out from under him, rather than that the other owners forced him to sell it. The owners voted to ban him from attending games, but that’s all they did.

This was an offhand bit meant to explain why Ballmer was seen as a likable owner, and good for the image of the nba. He really does care, and he privately funded a state of the art stadium with nice toilets. Its also like .0001% of the episode lol. I’d recommend watching this episode in full, it’s good and more concise than the aspiration saga.
