From tracing down some old newspaper stories/box scores, basketball reference determined that Wilt Chamberlain had a 23 block triple double on Christmas Day, 1968. That’s six more blocks than the official NBA record (Elmore Smith). 15 of those blocks followed a halftime interview critical of Wilt

15 of those blocks came during a second half comeback, after Wilt was asked by a reporter (Hall of Famer Jack Twyman) why he doesn’t play in the high post like his coach wanted him to. Famously, Wilt would continue to feud with coach Butch van Breda Kolff through a blow-up during game seven of that year’s NBA Finals. From a limited number of games tracked by basketball reference, they also found a 22 block game.
