I know he had a remarkably healthy season last season until the playoffs but hes only played 65 games or more in a season twice out of the last 7 (since he tore his Achilles) and I just dont see that number going up much.

I dont doubt he can continue to score at a crazy level but the MPG and Games played are where I think he’ll fall short.

The only thing I would rule out is the first option of 3 seasons at 29.7ppg. He’s only doing that if he gets sent to the Pelicans or some shit.

But I see no reason why weird ass KD wouldn’t stay in the league well into his 40s. Like does he even have other interests? LeBron, Steph, Giannis, Jokic, Luka, Wemby, and more all have well documented extracurricular pursuits (respectively golf, golf, marital sex, horse racing, Overwatch, and mastering the four elements). KD practices his shooting motion at nightclubs.

Time isn’t kind to 7 footers. His legs could go and he won’t be able to get his shot off, or more likely he can’t keep stay on the floor because he can’t guard anyone.

I don’t think KD is going to retire if he’s healthy and only 1000 points away from Kareem. He cares about his legacy, for better or worse.

Steve Nash talked about this, though. He could have kept playing if he wanted to, but eventually his back wasn’t really holding up. It was on the defensive end, particularly, that he said he felt it.

I suspect there are a lot of older players who could keep their career going if all they had to do was run to the corner and shoot when somebody passed them the ball. But getting up and down the court is something else entirely.

To say nothing of having to put the ball on the floor sometimes as your fast-twitch muscles decline.

I don’t see him playing backup minutes.. I do think he’ss going to “keep going until he can’t” as opposed to retiring while still starter-quality, but at the point where no team wants to start him any more, I think he’s done

He was trying to get the Lakers to the playoffs because the entire team fell apart due to injuries. Ended up costing him the last few seasons of his career.

People are downvoting me but they are simply morons. Kobe was 34 with just under 32k points. For reference, KD is 37 with 32.5k points, fewer than 1k more than Kobe while being 3 years older. To say Kobe wasn’t on track to break the record by age 37-39 is ridiculous had he not tore his achilles. He averaged 28 points a game at age 34 in his 17th season with no signs of slowing down.

I think you are misreading the post.

The post isn’t about KD getting anywhere near LeBron’s record. No one is going to confuse KD’s accomplishments with LeBron lol. And while KD potentially passing Kareem would be deserved, because KD earned it, it would feel a bit cheap somehow.

It’s that Kareem is one of the original GOAT’s and LeBron passing him was a transcendental moment. It wasn’t “just” about becoming the point record keeper.

Anyone passing Kareem’s record makes it less special. Like Babe Ruth’s HR record that was passed by Hank Aaron. If Pujols hit 13 more HRs, he would have passed it. But Pujols, like KD, isn’t a top 10 player all time, and them passing those marks imho cheapens the record
