Could an NBA player still make open shots if they were experiencing severe hallucinations?
I’m talking like a Doc Ellis kind of situation, where he famously pitched a no hitter on LSD. He once said, “The ball was small sometimes, the ball was large sometimes, sometimes I saw the catcher, sometimes I didn’t…I remember diving out of the way of a ball I thought was a line drive. I jumped, but the ball wasn’t hit hard and never reached me.”
I feel like the ball being smaller sometimes would give a shooter a TON of self-confidence (in terms of making the hoop seem relatively big). Isn’t a lot of the mechanical stuff just muscle memory for them?
On the other hand, the counterargument I’ve heard is that diving out of the way of passes would be an obvious disadvantage offensively. Me and my coworker are trying to settle this. Any thoughts?
