As a Portlander I’d rather have a town hall with the owners instead of city council to show the owners what this team means and get them to help out a little. The city has already pledged over $400 mil and is just asking the owners to contribute a little

They have a petition they want fans to sign and on that petition they frame giving Tom Dundon money as “investing in a historically black neighborhood” which is technically true by the loosest of definitions because the Moda Center flattened a historically black neighborhood. They really are just immensely tone deaf.

Edit: FYI I realized I was somewhat misremembering my Portland history the historically black neighborhood was already flattened by the time the Moda Center was built but it’s still pretty tone deaf to frame renovating the government owned building as investing in a historically black neighborhood just because the land technically used to be that before the government destroyed it.

Blazers ownership seems to be doing just about everything they can to give the city of Portland and their fans the middle finger.

What can city council do? Dundon owns the team and he wants hundreds of millions in arena upgrades or he’s leaving. If the NBA doesn’t approve the move he’s just going to ruin the team and cut costs till it’s 15 plumbers each making just enough for the minimum team basement salary with a high school coach - which is going to make the product unwatchable.

You either have to buy the team from Dundon for $8-10B or Adam Silver needs to grow a set of balls. Both of which are not happening.

I’m not a Portlandian. I would like the city of Portland to try to support the Blazers. But I am not a fan of any city giving 500 million in tax payer money to renovate an arena. Dude had money to buy the team but now needs money to stay? I could see some tax breaks and business deals with the city even 100 million in assistance. But be real.

But in any case Portland is a fun city and MODA was fine when I watched some games there in 2019.

Remember to keep hydrated and the only thing that matters is the almighty dollar and everyone will respect it ultimately. What gear to wear to oppose these dippo-shittos? The Blazers organization wants an unworkable mob scene or a security concern. It plays into narrative of an unworkable situation. 

This ask from the same guy that just slammed the city seems shady. 

No business can be done if there are a bunch of hyped up justifiably angry people yelling etc. 

Portland voters made the environment hostile to big business without a compelling upside and the Blazers are a big business. I won’t debate the policies and I’m not passing any judgement here, it’s the facts. This is a natural consequence of Portland’s civic action.
