poor LA Illegal Streams, never having home court advantage

I made a deal with my wife last year that in lieu of paying for all the streaming services needed to watch the NFL (Sunday Ticket, Peacock, Netflix), I’d just go to the local bar on Sundays. It was mostly a joke but then I ended up doing it and keeping track of my tabs, and it was in fact cheaper than paying for all the streaming services needed.

I do fear for my liver if I try that with the NBA, but I’ll by doing it for the NFL again this year. 

Didn’t Ishbia make watching Phoenix games in Phoenix extremely accessible? As in, far easier to watch than pirating.

Cord-cutting stopped being a “trend” about a decade ago. Plenty of people no longer have cable, streaming has supposedly become the future, and yet the multibillion-dollar web of national television contracts, regional sports networks, local streaming packages and blackout rules has made watching your hometown team incredibly expensive and a hassle.

This isn’t really true anymore. I think you can get every team’s games without cable now.

Every season, fans have to look up guides explaining where certain games are being shown. Sometimes the game is on cable. Sometimes it is on a local over-the-air station. Sometimes it is on League P*ss, unless you live within 600 miles of the arena. Sometimes you need Peacock. Sometimes you need Prime Video. Sometimes you need an entirely separate subscription created specifically for one regional sports network.

You’re confusing a bunch of different things here to make it seem more complicated than it actually is.

The Chicago Bulls are in CHSN which is easy to get in Chicago via cable or streaming. When they were not on Comcast cable, CHSN was actually over the air.

I actually think there is one team that plays over local channels for free for at least some games. Don’t remember who it is.

After a brief period of things being nicely consolidated in the new digital era, shit’s completely devolved into being even worse than cable was. Now that everybody wants their own streaming service, we’ve come full circle, and piracy is the best option again. For pretty much all digital media. Movies, TV shows, sports, music, video games… Pirates have an easier and more convenient experience than people who pay for it.

The entire league is collectively negotiating new deals next year. The hope is that will result in the NBA League Pass you are describing will become reality.
