A water cannon in the Alamodome (triggered by pyrotechnics) delays the season opener between the San Antonio Spurs and Golden State Warriors for nearly an hour (November 4th, 1994).
What’s mad is that there was only a 51 minute delay to the game. Once the court was cleared and determined to be safe, everything resumed. Not sure that would happen in 2026.

Not sure??? This happened in the 2025 season. Happened at the Heat at Bulls game. Court condensation lead to a postponement of the game. Though that was caused by non stop water. There are so many more electronics involved in putting on a modern basketball game. The goals alone are absolutely packed with devices now: Cameras, timing equipment, all sorts of sensors for wearables and positioning, antennas of all sorts. Then the scorers tables are just end to end laptops and screens.
lol that reminds me of the time that the air horn or something at a game wouldn’t turn off and one of those sideline reporters was doing a live interview of the man trying to fix it.

I was at the game too, in the mid tier and since I was a dumb kid I was so jealous of the free shirts lol. I don’t even remember the game, just the water canon and the amount of people walking around after trying to waste time before the game started again.
That’s the only part I remember of that game.

I mean, in that specific case it was that the court presented a slipping risk for the players.
They do not mess around with courts being wet. I remember a pre-season game at Citizens Bank Arena (Ontario, California) being stopped after there were some water puddles that they couldn’t fix.
When I sat down to watch my team, I was disappointed because I thought the game was not going to happen at all. An hour of listing to them/ this without any action…we didn’t have the options you have today. Planning to watch a game was a bigger deal…nobody recorded them.The internet and TiVo was yet to be ubiquitous.
