I think that KD probably was quite an earnest, well-meaning character early in his career, but it’s quite obvious that he’s a deeply insecure person who craves validation.

When he thought that getting those chips would validate him and solve everything but it didn’t and he can’t stand the fact that people don’t hold his rings in any kind of regard and it’s made it even worse for him that he hasn’t been able to get it done on his own.

All of this has just made him bitter and he can’t help himself by lashing out, trying to justify himself but it just keeps making him look worse.

KD is trying to make it seem like Philly is more stacked than those Warriors teams by pointing out Embiid and Brown were both “MVPS” while saying Klay never won an MVP and Draymond was just a 14 and 6 guy. Of course the reality is that Steph is the greatest shooter to ever live, Klay also ranks as one of the greatest ever (otherworldly shooter who was multi time all-nba + all-defense), Draymond is multi-time All-nba, DPOY, 9x all-defense. Those guys perfectly complimented each other.

There’s a huge difference between 28 year old Durant joining with those 3 stars in their 20s at the height of their powers, vs 42 year old LeBron joining up with 1x all-nba Maxey and whatever is left of Embiid.

One key point is that if KD is pretending like Brown’s Finals MVP is some important designation for determining player talent when comparing the dominant Warriors vs this Philly team, he also has to point out Iguodala was a FMVP and also on that stacked Warriors team when he joined. Truthfully, FMVP is kind of a nonsense award selected by a panel of 11 randos, but if all we’re doing is checking off “MVP” boxes to measure talent and compare these teams, Iggy and Brown become a wash by that measure. Both were FMVP for similar reasons. Both rank toward the very bottom of all-time FMVP statistical performances and arguably shouldn’t have won their awards (both got selected on 7-4 votes), but the trophies have their names on them so… they cancel each other out.

But honestly, the root of this is that Durant is still losing sleep over his decision to join that 73 win dominant Warriors team. He was always a student of the game with an incredible respect for the prior generations. He felt that collecting rings would fill a hole inside him and secure his legacy, but it just made him feel empty. That team was almost back-to-back champs without him and proved they could win after he left so ultimately the rings felt unearned. He’s forever salty that his legacy will be that of the ultimate anti-competitive bandwagoner. It’s not even that the older generation didn’t respect him for it, it’s that deep down he doesn’t respect himself for it. So it’s caused him to lash out in a variety of ways. This “wow LeBron is joining a Philly team even more stacked than that weak Golden State squad I joined… look at all the MVPs they have!” is just the latest in Durant’s attempts to cope with his disappointing place in basketball history.

Situation is totally different. KD was in his prime and signed with a championship team coming off a 73 win season. LeBron is 42yo, taking the vet minimum, going to a team who hasn’t won it in this century. I don’t think the two things compare at all.

And it’s such a losing battle for him. The warriors had just won a ring with “no MVP” Klay being the second option.

They didn’t even need KD to win and it pissed him off everyone knows that lol.
