Pretty much although friendships can be complicated. I think very good friends expect each other to not trash each other on tv. Charles was literally just doing his job but you can see how MJ was hurt despite only the truth being told.

I thought I saw a video or read an article that said it went beyond that. Charles was attacking a lot of people who worked for Jordan and some of his other friends, and it put him into a very awkward position with those people. It made it worse that it was broadcast on TV. So, it was potentially a mix of the criticism of Jordan, himself, but then the other staff and friends. It’s obviously up to each individual what their limit/boundary is.
Maybe some day there will be a deeper explanation of it, but glad to see they’ve reconciled.

People who believe he’s overrated need to watch back his defense during those playoff series. Dude was up for any challenge. Not to mention his MVP caliber season when Jordan left for baseball.
Hell he almost led Portland to the finals. Pippen and Steve Smith were the leaders of that team and obv Pippen had more experience at the highest level.

Game 7 vs lakers haunts me
i’ve told this story before, but i grew up in NZ and we didn’t have basketball on the tv, we didn’t know the stars. in the 90s i knew jordan, the bulls, the hornets, and the raptors. a little later i knew the lakers and shaq.
think of how little basketball knowledge that is, and then hear this: pippen was one of the most recognisable players. i didn’t know his name, but i knew he was one of the greats because i always saw the picture of him and jordan. he had star power.
Didn’t he also take the Bulls to the ECF without Jordan?
They lost to the Knicks in 7 in 1994 in round two, without Jordan. The Knicks made it to the finals and lost in 7.
So the Pippen-led Bulls were pretty close to being a championship calibre team. Obviously we only know what actually happened, but a few bounces go differently, and they could have been right up there.

This is literally like reiterating 1x1 is 1 just because there’s an extremely small vocal minority that thinks 1x1 is 2 (yes this is actually a thing)
99.99% of basketball fans would not disagree with anything you said. There will always be that 0.01% that disagrees with even the most common statement
I disagree. Underestimating Pippen’s accomplishments is a pretty common trend.
I also think there’s a valid argument to be had about how many championships MJ would have won without Pippen, if a different star had been substituted in his stead.

Scottie was a really great player but I also feel like the average fan could kind of relate to him more than say, MJ who was a god, because his insecurities/weaknesses were so out in the open, it was almost endearing: from the migraine, to getting bullied by the Knicks and Pistons, to the Kukoc shot etc.

In a sense. I recently heard Doug Collins, their former coach, say something like the biggest difference between the two wasn’t talent, it was multitasking. MJ could handle all the responsibilities outside of playing bball on top of everything else and would still be totally locked in once he got on the court. Scottie couldn’t.
I also just think that he was a little bit insecure (just like all of us are), in a way that Jordan will never be. It’s why you still see him taking potshots at MJ now and MJ doesn’t bother responding - because he doesn’t need to
He did pretty well at being No. 1. I mean he was 3rd in mvp votes behind Hakeem and The Admiral, two hall of famers in their absolute prime.
A lot of people say Scottie was one of the leaders of the team. He had a lot more empathy than Jordan and helped people. He was a glue guy but also very talented and one of the best players on the team. You could argue it was like a good cop/bad cop situation. But in a lot of interviews and even in the Last Dance, former teammates spoke really highly of Scottie’s leadership and just being a good teammate.
He had some bad moments, we all do, but his are just amplified because of the stage and context.

Perhaps because of old age, he has more time to think about legacies, being always in Jordan’s shadow and obviously, not being as famous and rich as Jordan is now.

I think Chuck has some truth to his comments. Scottie’s contract allowed the Bulls to build a lot of depth - not to mention he’s Scottie fucking Pippin. I’d argue he’s Top 15 All-Time.
