What if Tony Parker’s shot goes in? 2013 Game 6
Everyone remembers the Ray Allen three, but during that review Popovich subbed Duncan in, which isn’t legal since a review isn’t a dead ball. The NBA confirmed it after the fact. Duncan was on the floor for Parker’s miss at the buzzer.
If that shot falls, the Spurs win the Finals on an illegal sub.
Protests have been used in regular season games like the Heat/Hawks scorer’s table error in 2008 that got the last 51.9 seconds replayed. Knicks and Blazers both filed in 2024 and got denied, with the league basically saying the error existed but there was time to overcome it.
But those are all regular season games with an easy fix. None of them are a title-clinching Game 6 with the trophy already out and confetti falling.
So would the NBA actually undo a championship after it airs live, or does it just get buried the second the celebration starts?
