I personally have him close to the top 5 because of his overall effect on his team- they score way more with him on the floor, and everyone is like 2 standard deviations more efficient- but it’s hard to quantify directly otherwise. Shit, they created actual gravity statistics to try to explain him.

I’ve never seen anyone help his team on offense as much as Curry without holding the ball, and, forgive the reddit cliche, it’s actually not even close.

Its had to get that volume at the rim though. Theres only a couple in your list who would come close to getting double digit shots at the rim and maintain that efficiency.

When Steph plays, he makes over 5 threes per game. In his 2020-2021 season, he actually made more threes per game than he did in 2016. He just missed a few games due to bruising his tail bone.

That said… Do I think someone else could do that? Ehhh… I think the game would have to change. If someone took 15 threes per game, they could probably get there on volume.

400+ threes on .454 shooting is absolutely nuts though. I don’t see anyone doing that ever again. For one, nobody is Steph. Secondly, defenses didn’t know what to do with him in 2016. They never saw anything like it. I felt like the whole league spent the entire season thinking he’d start missing those bullshit 28 footers any day now.

That’s why I honestly think 2021 was even more impressive than 2016. Defenses were completely keyed on Curry. He didn’t have Klay Thompson. He was the offense. They knew they had to pick him up early and get the ball out of his hands. It didn’t matter though. Curry led the league in scoring and still shot 42% from three on ridiculous volume.

13-14, Curry played a traditional PG role. He averaged 24 pts, 47.1%, 42.4% 3pts , 8.5 asts, and was 6th in MVP voting. So, still really good..

he averaged 8.5 assists the season before steve kerr implemented the motion offense, as a pick-and-roll traditional pg. Idk if he would have won as many championships. Maybe 1-2.

You would have to purposely put Steph on a bad team that refused to make improvements, though. Most teams that hold a guy as good as Steph for a moment will start trading for the kinds of players that harness their strengths. He would’ve put up similar splits on a worse but still good passing team. I agree with you that they wouldn’t be AS good, since that Warriors team was so incredible. A shame poorly timed injuries and Draymond’s nutcracker derailed them, if barely. LeBron having the greatest finals performance perhaps ever, of course, being the difference.
