[KG Certified] Kevin Garnett reminisces about the iconic alley-oop he threw to Kobe Bryant during Kobe’s first-ever All-Star Game in 1998, when he became the youngest All-Star in NBA history at 19 years old.
I love the high pitch voice he does to quote himself 28 years ago.
Man I wish ‘98 was 18 years ago
I meant 28 lol, autocorrect showing my age. Fixed!
i wish it was 18 days ago man
Life was better then.
Still crazy to think it’s that long ago. Man we had things so good when we were young.
Bruh growing up we thought that era would last forever. This era is cool. But that era, from MJ’s Last Dance to Kobe’s last 60 was like rock and roll. A bit like One Piece for Anime fans. Everyone was gunning.
Man seriously
I’m sorry I just have to add again to the sentiment. What happened and what the difference now is the game got corporate. That’s why players don’t care about the All-Star game like that anymore. That era, trying to be the next GOAT after MJ, was all heart. To the point of brawls at the Palace.
There were just so many moments. So many highs and lows. It was the era with many firsts internationally. It was when hip hop really entered the league. It was the era you saw what a legitimate 81 points looks like in a tight game. When Kobe and Shaq met for the first time on Christmas, that wasn’t about basketball. That was personal.
It was fun. And not like I’m trying to be smarter than you fun. It was just fun.
Had kids, get to relive the beauty of that simple life through their eyes. It’s beautiful.
Especially now that at 11 and 7 years old, they’re ages I actually have memories from. Hell, I was 11 for y2k. Shit is crazy.
I did for a short while and still do at times with both my nephews. So I definitely hear and can somewhat relate. Even though themselves are older now too at 19 and the other one will already be 17 in October.
Kg has one of the all time great bald heads.
I want to rub it like a genie lamp
hell yea him and mj
Hell yeah Mike James definitely high up on my list
Charles ?
you know he lotions and oils tf outta that dome
Not trying to be weird, but him and MJ both
Shout out Shane Battier’s raisin head
All star game looks sick with players wearing their team kit, should be brought back.
Players don’t care about the all star game that much anymore
it isn’t about whether or not players care lol, it’s about whether the league can monetize jersey sales and sponsorship patches
No, it is. The culture changed. It is cool if the players care. Pretty much nothing in the Allstar game can be cool if the majority of players dont care.
We’ve had a few good ones lately, there’s some guys who care regardless but there are at least some incentives now.
I’d love an all star game where players wear this era jerseys of their teams.
I would too, but unfortunately this era don’t got that dawg in em anymore.
Yeah but in the modern nba that’s a missed merch opportunity. Pity
MLB recently switched back to everyone in their own kits after a few years of trying to force the All-Star jerseys. The real reason is that they are hoping you as a fan spends money on this “limited edition” jersey as opposed to a home jersey that you already have with one added “all-star patch”. To be honest, I’d take the Home kit with all-star patch over any All-Star MLB jersey they ever made. Those shits were truly atrocious.
Honestly who’s interested in an all star specific jersey anyway? That seems kinda whack to me anyway, but I guess someone must be buying them?
My favorite thing about the All-Star game was players wearing their team jerseys. It was such a fun and exciting mash up of colors.
Man kg is 1 of 1
That’s my GOAT right there.
GOAT PF. Never seen a more talented player at that position.
Timmy D says hi
Duncan is clearly GOAT pf…
also the mailman kiddy diddler is above him as well no? maybe not…but Barkley?
GOAT career, sure. KG’s prime clearly was better. I’m not sure how somebody who watched them play could argue that Duncan was more talented than KG. The accolades which Duncan has over KG are team accolades. KG has DPOY, and was far more versatile both offensively and defensively.
KGs prime was the best of ever. Period
Duncan can get the career nod, for sure.
Not really any other arguments.
Curious…is Tom Brady the GOAT?
Duncan has 2 MVPs to KGs 1 which are hardly team accolades.
I say this as a KG stan, you are grossly devaluing what Tim Duncan brought to the floor.
I think Duncan is better but MVP is a team accolade make no mistake. Take two equal players, the player on the higher seed is winning MVP.
I like how this was about KG and Kobe, now it’s something else. Why do we have to rank everything? Just appreciate them all.
It’s not grossly devaluing to say the difference in their overall success came down to teammates & coaching, that’s how it works between players of that caliber, and KG was in hell for a decade
Ant could easily pass him if he spends his career in Minny. But for now, anyone who saw Wolves Ticket knows that KG is still the franchise GOAT.
Agreed, love to watch Ant too. Winning the finals or WCF would put him above.
Bring back players wearing their team jerseys in the all star game
Also, bring back unique and cool jerseys, KG in those wolves uniforms is iconic
Teams can’t. Anytime they try something new, they get so much shit from social media, so now they just play everything super safe
KG is such a great hypeman lol had to be great to be on his team and hell to be on another. “Over a basketball game???”
Mellooo
Two kids out of high school that BOTH turned into legends!! Chills 🔥🔥
iirc KG to lakers for bynum + odom almost happened. this was before they got pau gasol. same season kobe wanted bynum traded for jason kidd
Kobe’s extension to make the pass look intentional is crazy.
So hype
KG really needs to do a series or something his story telling is phenomenal.
I mean he’s constantly making content about anything and everything
Shirts vs Blouses
So many people, especially the shit talkers, have no idea what #8 was like. All they know is #24 on the back side of his career. #8 was explosive and bouncy as hell.
Miss those types of all star games
All-star games use to have some serious integrity
KG was my favorite non-Laker growing up, then became my second most detested player when he joined the Celtics (obvious reasons) and Nets (attitude, cheap shots, etc). Now he’s better than ever giving props to every generation of players and just loving the game.
Yeah kg was for sure a non laker favorite. Thought he might become one right before Gasol happened
Man R.I.P. Kobe 🥹🙏🏼 Hearing this from KG makes me love and appreciate this play and All-Star Game, even more. Which already held a special place in my heart cause of it being at MSG and Mike’s last ASG as a Bull, and Kobe and KG’s first All-Star Game’s, as well as my first ASG I watched in real time. I really miss when they wore their actual team uniforms like this for the All-Star Game too.
Pass was a little behind but Kobe still yammed it. Nice
I SAW A MAN FLY
He really did catch that mf and keep going up
just watched the 2000 All Star game and was shocked to see Allen Iverson was his first time being an all star… dude was averaging 31 ppg and didn’t get in to the AS game until the fans voted him in
What is this corporate ass instrumental music 😭
That was such an entertaining game.
I know the answer is “To sell All-Star Jerseys”, but why don’t they do this home vs away in their team jerseys anymore?
Can always listen to kg tell a nba story
Tim Duncan observing KG & Kobe getting pumped. Meanwhile Duncan’s heart rate just spiked at 53 BPM.
Both dogs, but very different beasts.
KG’s form of trash talking:
Duncan’s form of trash talking:
Probably my favorite all star game.
This fucking background music lmao. Do they think they are a Marvel movie or something? Cracks me up.
In 1998 Garnett was in his third year. In what world would Kobe Bryant, drafted in 1996, needed a hype up from him? What a pretender…
Rip
Kobe averaged 15 points on 42% shooting while only starting one game that season, but was an allstar.
Was the entire team fan voted or something?
Hot damn I freaking love KG. I wish he was our pf right now, that would be so damn fun.
Thank God Kevin McHale still hates the Lakers cause Kobe/KG would have literally murdered dudes, both on the other team and their own
I love how they make it seem like it was more calculated than what it was. “ see i had told him if I can alley opp you in the first minute they morale will go down 7% ” “ and when I threw that thing i remembered my 7th grade teacher showing me how to do real time math so im doing algebra in My head If 3=2x+y shiddd Kob was coming at 17 mph and I said to myself eh kg you gotta throw that thing 2.7 mph at 37° “
I mean, yea, their parsing of all that information in real time is absolutely a skill. Of course it’s not going at that conversational speed when it’s playing out - but those are all micro-decisions baby.
Its all instinct . Sometimes it works sometimes it dont lol
Gold man 😂
Is KG trying to take credit for Kobe? Cmon dude
