I worked with LeBron years ago on a Nike commercial in Los Angeles. Came in, did his job, was punctual, and took direction well.

He also farted out loud whenever he wanted during the shoot (in a gym). No, this isn’t a joke.

I met Steven Adams at Target once, he was really nice, I tried to not to bother him but he talked for a second and shook my hand. My big takeaway was that his hand was huge and I felt like a kid shaking an adults hand

I met KG at a GameStop years ago when he was playing for the Celtics. I was in the store looking around and all of a sudden KG walks in by himself. I was shocked because KG wasn’t someone that you saw around like that. I had a Celtics shirt on and made eye contact with him when he walked by, and all I said was “great game last night” and gave him a head nod and continued to browse. I think it’s because I didn’t bother him for a picture or try to talk to him, but about a minute later, he came up to me with a game in his hand and was like “Ayo, my man you ever play this game?“ And after that, we literally talked about video games for like 15 minutes, he was extremely cool and friendly. At the end of the convo he dapped me up and goes “good talk man, I’m Kevin” and I was like come on man you know i know that. So then I made my purchase and left the store, and I see a big Range Rover outside with his wife and kids just sitting there waiting for him. I was like damn, because like I said we were in there talking for at least 15 minutes. Anyway, he is the man and that’s my story.

Shook hands and had a convo with MJ at Club Dream when he was a Wizard. He remembered meeting my parents in 93 in Atlantic City and signing a $20 I still have. Super cool guy

I met Kobe in Eagle Colorado back in 2003 near a hotel. He seemed to be in a rush so I didn’t bother him much.

I’ve met Harden like 4 times, and he was incredibly nice and cool every time. He offered to sign my jersey before I even asked.
Met Pat Bev once and he was nice.
Met Corey Brewer, it was fast but he was genuinely polite.
I have a pic with the 2016-17 rockets. They were cool, but I didn’t have time to talk to them. The only one who talked to me was James Harden. He dapped me up and bro hugged me. The others weren’t rude at all, but I appreciated that from James.
Had a private lunch with Rashard Lewis once and he was legit so nice to me and my mom. His wife is cool too.

I met Kelly Oubre once at a restaurant. We’d accidentally been given his table. Apparently he was fond of the restaurant and had a specific table he liked, and the management had messed up and gotten their days wrong, (it was Tuesday and they thought he was coming on Thursday or something like that). Anyway, the manager, completely embarrassed (this is a pretty nice restaurant) comes by and says “I’m so sorry, but we’d like to move you to another table if you could be troubled, and we’ll gladly compensate you for the cost of the meal and any other meal you’d like while you’re in town.” My sister and cousin were both like “Yeah that’s cool.” and I kind of played the asshole a bit. “I’m sorry, I just don’t understand. We’ve been here for 15 minutes - we’ve just ordered. Can’t we finish our meal here?” Then out of nowhere Kelly Oubre shows up next to the manager and says “Paul, these guys can finish. We’ll be at the bar” And I (being a big fan) said “Oh wow, uh… I had no idea. Please feel free to give them the table.” Kelly was grateful, shook my hand and said thanks, then gave me a card with his number on it and told me to give him a call later. After working up the nerve, I gave him a call that night, and to make a long story short, we had a glorious 11 month love affair, man on man, that I shall never forget. Our bodies intertwined as one, and from the beauty of Morocco, to the French Riviera, to the snorkeling in the Galopagos, Kelly Oubre and I made glorious gay love to each other on six of the seven continents.

Met Dwade eating on a sidewalk in south beach in like 2007. Older brother said hey what’s up to him, dont remember what I did all I remember he gave me a look. I was a fat kid so maybe he dont like fat kids but it was a experience non the less.

Back in the 90s, my mom worked cashier at a grocery store and Chris Gatling came into her line. He was apparently buying alcohol so she asked for his ID. He pulls out his ID says, “I play for the Warriors. don’t you know who I am?”. My mom, who was not a watcher of any sports, looked at his ID and responds, “no”.

Went up and quietly asked if he was in fact, Ricky Rubio. He quietly answered yes and I just told him big fan of his and hope his upcoming season with the Cavs goes well for him. Looked really happy and pleased I left it at that and didn’t bother for pic or anything.

We met most of the 2025 Nuggets while in OKC. They stayed in the same hotel as us so we camped in the lobby a little bit and waiting for absurdly tall people walked by to see if we knew them.

My son is a huge Jamal Murray fan and he was especially kind and patient with us. He was obviously busy and heading somewhere but stopped long enough to estimate when he’d be walking back through the lobby and promised a pic then if we were around. Dude came through on the promise, pics happened, son cried happy tears.

(Yokic declined a pic. He was HAMMERED drunk and said “I don’t do dat” as he tried to exit the lobby and nearly walked into a window thinking it was going to be a glass automatic door.)

Several. Most memorable though was Tracy McGrady when he was on the Magic. He was throwing out the first pitch at a Braves spring training game at espn’s world of sports. He threw out the pitch and was jogging up the aisle after and i ran after him and caught him in the concourse and asked him for an autograph and was beginning to tell him how much i loved him and he goes “Yeah little man then i gotta get the fuck outta here.”

I hung out with Klay Thompson and watched the 2014 world cup game where we lost to Belgium. He was very chill, quite high, exactly what you’d expect. At that time he was in trade rumors for Kevin Love and i spent the whole experience not saying anything about it, but after the game I was drunk enough to tell him I’d never trade him for Kevin love because love played no defense. He dapped me up.

I met Wemby at a comedy club in NYC and while his security is insane and doesn’t really let people get near him, he was really nice to everyone on the staff and seemed to really like the comedy lol. He waved hi to me when I said go Spurs Go.

He was with his (presumably) GF and seems to try to really keep her out of the spotlight so he kept a low profile the whole night.

Served Demarcus Cousins as a Gaucho once at a Brazilian steak house. Dude was huge and I saw him get visibly disappointed at the salad bar, rightfully so. And he looked at the meat but didn’t take anything or talk really. He left a small stack of bills on the table for his boys and they fucking ATE, but he left. They did not tip….

I met Festus Ezeli and Harrison Barnes, as they both lived in my building. Festus let me take a selfie with him, Harrison didn’t want to be bothered.

When I was a baby, Bill Walton held me in his massive hands.

I met Mark Eaton and John Stockton, I immediately noticed Eaton from like 2 blocks away and only realized it was Stockton with him when we got close. This was before camera phone obviously.

I met Wilt Chamberlain a few months before he died at a Cable TV convention in Long Beach, got a pic with him.

Oh ya, I met Buck Williams in Portland before I knew he was, he had just been traded to Portland, and he was lost, and pulled into the lot of the place I worked. I remember he had a really big Mercedes sedan. 1989 probably.

I met Rasheed at a night club he frequented in Portland’s old town.

My friend bought Jerome Kersey’s white Porsche.

Oh, there was a lunch spot in Oakland that the team would be at often, so I met Luke Walton there, and also someone else on the team, I think it was Ian Clark

I met Reggie Miller.

He was really enthusiastic and genuine. Just really down to earth and didn’t seem inconvenienced by being recognized. I know he’s not everyone’s favorite commentator but he earned a lifelong fan in me after that.

I met the Lopez twins at Disney World a couple summers ago. Robin was super friendly, happily took a pic with me. I wanted to talk to Brook but he had his baby with him and was on the phone so didn’t wanna bug him.

This was also at the same time that their Statefarm commercial was airing so it was funny to point them out on TV later that week.

Chris Paul was at a Best Buy, and no one was bothering or going up to him at all. Silly me went up to him and asked for a pic. (I think back sometimes and wonder if customers and staff were told not to approach him lol). Then again it was LA so celebrities are somewhat common to see so most people leave them alone.

He was super nice and let me take a selfie together. I told him sorry about the playoffs as it was 2015, I think the post season where Clippers blew a 3-1 lead. He said it’s all good super casually and not bothered by it at all. It was nice he said it that way cause at the end of day it’s just games of basketball. Also I’m 5’9 and was really close to him in height. He’s probably 5’10 and with shoes on 6 feet as listed on his player profile

Haven’t met one, but walked past Zydrunas Ilgauskas as I was entering a mall once. From a distance I thought that guy is tall. Then got closer and thought that guy is REALLY tall. Then as we were passing I realized Oh, that guy is Z.

I’ve met Aaron Gordon. That was an amazing experience. And Jamal Murray. He’s a very nice person.

Been a lifelong Dirk Nowitzki fan and won a contest in 2017 to meet him and play basketball with him for like an hour with a small group of ~4 people.

It was towards the end of his career and the meet and greet was at the Mavs old practice facility, presumably after a walk through or something, but he could barely move by that point.

We played HORSE and knockout and tried to guard his signature fadeaway. He didn’t miss a single shot and beat everyone in HORSE. I think he lost in knockout, just because he wasn’t chasing any errant misses across the gym, so any shot after the initial 3 pointer was basically out of the question.

Idk if it was his age or my enthusiasm or just pure luck, but I actually blocked the Dirk fade. He dropped it on everyone else’s head with ease, but I jumped early (and as high as I could) and he didn’t do the full fade and I got my fingers on it. Life has been in a steep decline ever since.

Clostest I’ve ever got was in 2017 after we beat the Nuggets, Chris Paul gave me a high five. Was always one of my favorite players so I was so hyped afterwards lmao.

Was at a close friend’s birthday party at Exhilarama in Houston, right after the Rockets won the second chip. Our parents are real close so he’s like family. A little ways in his mom tells everybody to come to the party room so we can meet somebody.

Robert Horry ducks through the door, larger than life itself, and greets everybody. We bout died from excitement. He stayed a while and helped sing happy birthday. My friend’s mom explained that their cousin was married to Rob so he thought it would be cool to make an appearance and show love.

He gave every kid in attendance a replica championship ring, and my friend got a copy of NBA live 96 for Sega that we played all night. Robert Horry could burn down a retirement home on live television and I would defend him til my last breath, after that day.

I also went to high school with an NBA player. We weren’t close but we had a bunch of classes together and he was always funny and chill.

I met Robert Pack his rookie year, he was playing pickup at park.

If you know anyone in the Taiwanese Christian community in the SF Bay Area, you’re probably two to three degrees of separation from Jeremy Lin. I’ve met Jeremy through multiple people in that community. Super nice guy. Basically who you probably expect him to be based on his appearances in media.

TJ McConnell, Boban and Tobi at a meet and greet. Never felt so small in my life as Boban’s hand engulfed half my arm. All super nice.

Tony Parker and David Robinson. David is legitimately one of the nicest and most authentic people I’ve ever met.

Grew up in San Antonio. My small-ish private school had a fundraiser. It was an auction and the “big prize” was a day of basketball with Tony at his house. My friend’s dad owned a car dealership and was the winning bid. It was actually a tie, so they called Tony and asked if he would be willing to do 2 days with 2 separate families. He agreed. So we went out there with a group of us (I was in like maybe 5th or 6th grade?) and spent the day hooping with him. He was actually sick when we showed up, so Tony’s dad hung out with us while Tony got some rest. And by hung out, I mean he had us running drills and doing wind sprints. Made me understand where Tony got his work ethic lol. But eventually Tony came out, and we hooped for hours. The highlight of my basketball career is beating Tony in knockout on a lucky shot. And I will swear to this day, he was not trying to lose. Dude cooked us before and after that. But he was a great dude. And to top it all off, this was when he was still married to Eva Longoria. She came out and hugged us, talked to us, and even hid Easter eggs for us to find lol? We were so tired at the end of the day that on the way home we realized we forgot to look for them lmao.

And then there’s David Robinson. His kids actually went to school with me, and I played basketball with Corey and David Jr. David Robinson is truly a salt of the earth kind of guy. He would drive out to Corpus to watch us play basketball on a random Thursday afternoon. Did not carry himself like a top 50 player of all time. Worked the concession stands, came to every game he could, just a normal dad supporting his sons and their friends. That extended to his sons too. All just insanely smart and kind. I knew Corey probably the best, and while we weren’t extremely close, he was friends with everyone, just like his dad. If David wasn’t a pro basketball player, you’d just know him as one of the most genuine people you’ve ever met.

Very briefly talked to Rondo as he was shooting around before a game. I was with my girlfriend and we were able to stand on the floor. He grabbed a ball that bounced right in front of us. My girlfriend instinctively blurted out, “oh my god, Rondo I love you!” He kind of smiled and said “appreciate it”.

I then told him I loved him too and he kind of just cocked his head and went back to shooting.

No regrets. And if you ever see this, I still love you Rondo.

I ran into Steve Nash in May in the PHX airport. Dude looks super regular and no one was noticing him. I kinda stared and he looked at me and I was like “Are you…?” he kinda smirked and went “Yeah”

I was like “That’s so sick. Go Spurs.” he smiled some more and kept walking, nobody else noticing him

I met Michael Carter Williams at Syracuse. Good guy.

Back in 2022 I was working for an esports association that hosted sponsored tournaments and I cohosted a streamed NBA 2K tournamant with Josh Hart that was an absolute trainwreck.

Every technical issue that could go wrong did go wrong and at one point Josh had to be lent someones PlayStation account to play in the tournament because there was some issue with his account. Whole time Josh was super nice and very encouraging as I’m losing my damn mind over this nightmare tournament stream unraveling right in front of me. The tournament sponsor gave me a Pelicans hat that I still have and I’ve been a huge fan of Josh ever since.

I worked in a resort years ago and teams didn’t stay there while traveling but many of the local players came for dinner, a staycation or to drink in our bar.

Steve Nash is a womanizer. I wish I had his game but also he’s skeezy af.

Amare stoudemire doesn’t understand what a tip is and doesn’t get that he, too, is just a person.

Jason Richardson drank a lot.

Shaq was the only one I liked. He just joked around and acted like he isn’t as big as he really is. One time he needed like 80 cents for a candy bar, pulled out a roll of hundreds and said “can y’all spare like 2 dollars?” Funny guy.

Eddie House, Grant Hill and Kenny Smith are all just normal dudes.

I’ve met quite a few. When I was a kid, the Suns would frequently host meet and greets for various players. Unsurprisingly, since I attended these events in the 2010’s the vast majority of players weren’t exactly notable. But here are a few bits:

1. I was a massive Marcin Gortat fan as a child, my mom told him this and he gave me his “Polish Hammer” bracelet that he was wearing. I genuinely spazzed out when it happened. My dog ate the bracelet and to this day I still have not forgiven her.

2. My mom and I got access to a season ticket holder event bc her co-worker knew I was a big basketball fan. Marquese Chriss recognized both of us from a previous meet and greet. He was very nice to us.

3. The only notable player I met was Devin Booker, after he was drafted but before he played. He was very chill

4. Not the Suns, but Rik Smits had a nephew that played for my high school’s basketball team. He and I happened to go to the same game and he is the only person whose height has shocked me IRL (and I’m saying this as someone who has an unusual amount of tall friends). He clearly didn’t want to be bothered so I just said hi.

If by met, you mean heckling back and forth with a player, then yeah I met Kyrie.

I saw Bronny James at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

In 2012, Russell Westbrook ate at the Olive Garden I worked at as a busser (by Quail Springs mall). I was working the other half of the restaurant, but I “checked the other side to see if there were dirty tables” when I heard he was there.

There was one right next to his table, and i realize now he definitely saw me looking over. We used the big salad bowls to hold the trash, so I dumped the extra breadsticks in that, and he said, “Hey, I wanted those.”

2 hours later I realized i should have come back with a ton of breadsticks.

Met jokic in target looking at phonecases, he was cool as hell solo no security or anything. Told him congrats on mvp he said thanks we dapped up and went on with our lives.

Met Thomas Bryant at Mother Bear’s in B-town last summer. Was a cool dude who insisted on paying for his many many pizzas when they offered them to him for free

Turned me around, signed my shirt and didn’t say another word to me.

I used to work at a K-Mart when I was in college, and one day Bobby Phills, when he was with the Cavaliers came in the store. I helped him pick out a Black and Decker cordless drill. He was very cool!

Was walking across the parking lot from In N Out Burger to Walmart on Truxel in 2002 and almost got hit by Vlade Divac who was speeding in his Mercedes. Instinctively jumped out of the way but saw who was driving as I did so and I’ve been pissed at myself for doing so the entire rest of my life.

Fucker didn’t even slow down at all.

I won a contest to spend the day with Charles Barkley and Clyde Drexler when I was like 13. I was a bit too intimidated to talk to them very much so I mainly just watched them interact with other people. I learned that when I grew up I wanted to be as funny as Chuck and as professional and polite as Clyde. They are both awesome people in their own way

Met a whole bunch of Mavs players quite a while back at a patio bar after their season ended. Dirk, Kidd, Marion, Brian Cardinal, some others. I asked Dirk to play bag toss, he politely declined but Kidd joined my team. Cardinal and some random dude played us. Cardinal elbowed the shit out of me every time I tossed a bag, but Kidd and I ended up with the W.

Cuban showed up later and paid the entire bars tabs. I was late to work the next day.

My best friend in my late teens was the nephew of Mitch Richmond’s wife. I got to meet Mitch twice and he was really nice. He got us tickets for a game that turned out to be the owner’s seats. After the game I met a bunch of other players but the one that stands out was Wayman Tisdale. Just a nice dude who knew how to make little fanboy me feel comfortable talking to him

Dikembe Mutombo visited our school in Hong Kong to talk about his philanthropy work. Shared about how basketball was great, but his greatest achievement was building a state of the art hospital in the Congo, and named it after his mother. Super nice man, and shaking his hand was crazy. He had to lean over just to talk to anyone. Rest in peace, big fella.

Jamal Crawford, Jrue Holiday, Steve Smith, Bonzi Wells, Brian Grant, and Lamarcus Aldridge

Jamal, Jrue, and Brian are absolute world class citizens. I met Jamal when I was 19 and waiting tables (I worked at the restaurant across the parking lot of the training facility). It was actually Jamal’s first day in Portland. I was somehow the first Portlander to recognize him. We ended up talking hoops for an hour and he ultimately followed me on Twitter 😂. My claim to fame.

I met Horace Grant at the grocery store when I was like 7. I was really nervous to go up to him but he was very gracious and nice to me. He shook my hand and his hand went up past my elbow because I was in first grade or whatever.

I also got to meet Dikembe Mutambo. That was very special.

The Jazz one time had a thing where they gave a few 90+ year old fans VIP seats for a game. My grandma who was 91 at the time and is 95 now is the biggest Jazz fan I know and won, so me and my mom got to go with her. We got to talk to Mike Conley for a couple minutes, and as you can imagine he was the coolest nicest guy ever.

I won an NBA sweepstakes in 2022 to go to the all star game in Cleveland. They gave me special passes and flew me out for the full weekend. Also got to see the dunk contest practice and a lot of the behind the scenes of the players practicing for the games.

As far as which players I met: Jarrett Allen (He was a super cool dude, talked to him the most), Juan Toscano-Anderson, Obi Toppin, Cole Anthony, Giannis, and Ray Allen walked in front of me for a couple seconds. Also randomly met the RDC world dudes while I was picking up my passes.

I met Kuzma when he was in college, he was actually really cool and stayed and watched our whole game while talking from the sideline all game (it was a highschool camp at Utah). In early 1993, Magic Johnson was in Honolulu for a book signing. The line to meet him stretched out of the bookstore to halfway around the mall. I was fortunate enough to make it into the store before they closed it off.

There was this pretty local Japanese girl - probably in her early 20s - right before me in line. When it was her turn, she approached Magic with a copy of his book. Magic made some small talk with her, then suddenly the young woman started to cry. Obviously, she loved Magic and thought he was going to die from his HIV condition.

Magic gently said, “Aw, don’t cry. If you keep crying, we’re all going to cry.” Then he stood up, walked over to her and wrapped her in a big hug.

Everyone who saw that got a lottle misty eyed. I will never forget that moment.

I met Damon Stoudamire when I was a kid. He was doing an appearance and took Polaroids with kids at a local shoe store. I asked for an autograph and he signed the Polaroid real quick, winked, and said, “Just don’t tell the other kids or I’ll be here all day.” It was a really cool experience.

I met Gary Payton at an autograph signing at a car dealership in the late 90s. He was nice shook my hand and told me to keep playing basketball. It was pretty cool as a young kid who was obsessed with playing basketball at the time to meet my favorite player.
