Terrible shooter with a career 62.3 TS% and over 62% TS his last 3 seasons (league avg .583).

He had the best DRtg on the team last season at 113 (excluding Bassey’s 5 games),which is about the league average for centers, and the 4th best VORP at 1.1.

His Ortg was 124, better than Steph (western conference avg was 116). 1 of only 5 GSW players with a PER over league avg at 18.3.

Because GP2 fits into the motion offense perfectly. If you watch the games, his biggest strengths have been offball IQ, screens for Curry, and backdoor cuts. Saying that, his lack of 3 (and the Warriors’ size) has affected his ability to make an impact since he’s older and its a lot more unsustainable to run a 6’2 C in the league vs 2022.

If he didn’t do any of that, he would be like 2021 Oubre.

I mean, in the nicest way possible, I understand that Steph wants another title in an ideal world and so do the fans. But this is not some sort of Embiid situation where he gets to the playoffs consistently but can’t close the deal, or a Chris Paul thing where he’s an aging vet who has never won.

He’s been extremely fortunate in his NBA career. There are all-time greats who retire without a title, and he has 4 of them and has been to 6 finals. Honestly, I hope he keeps playing as long as he feels he can contribute, but he’s 38 and can’t hard-carry a team anymore and everyone needs to accept that (including Steve Kerr who thinks “as long as Steph’s here our window is open”.)

But the only other team he’s publicly said he’s willing to play for are the Hornets, who put up a respectable winning record last year but aren’t currently contenders either.

He needs to decide whether he’s content to stay in GS for the rest of his career accepting that he likely isn’t going to win anything with the current roster, or whether he wants to give his last few years to a contender and not be a Warriors lifer. He can’t have it both ways.

We have Curry, then we have no other shot creators or shooters. And thats how it has been since Poole and Klay decided to collectively disappear in the ²²⁄₂₃ playoffs. I still remember ²³⁄₂₄…It took 11 games before someone other than Curry scored 20 points or more, and that was Saric with exactly 20 points. For years we trotted out a frontcourt that can neither shoot, pressure the rim or in any conceivable way finish in the space defenders leave behind when going after Curry.

We failed to build around the margins to help alleviate some of the wear and tear Curry has been building up through being the only guy opponents even bother to take seriously, on one of the worst spaced teams in the league.

I’m struggling to buy that the reason the Warriors aren’t better, or at least a priority reason, is Curry’s cap percentage. The Warriors could make win now moves right now and going forward without Curry taking a pay cut. I think Curry could get his max and still be on a competitive team. If not for their injuries that might already be the case.

The other thing here is the Warriors always get these contracts straight up without a trade clause. Obviously Curry should do whatever he wants, but that would be something to seek out from Golden State in return for any pay cut. I’m hoping he uses his free agency to put some pressure on them beyond just relying on underpaying Curry. Especially with this talk of a post Curry team they could maybe use some pressure.
