Reddit has just gotten too well known. Too many people on it. It used to be that once a sub hit 100k subscribers meaningful discussion would die in the sub. And people would create a branch off sub. Now all the subs have millions of subscribers. The quality of a community is determined by the people in that community. And the people that were responsible for what reddit was ( long ago) once known for ( meaningful and deep discussions) are greeeeeatly outnumbered. So we’re left with shit.
If you look at the top posters on /r/all or /r/popular or whatever, it’s all dudes from other countries whose (presumably) job is to post viral content on Reddit. Back in the early 2010s Reddit had a few “power users” but they were doing it for the love of the game (and had no life). Now it’s some dude in Vietnam or India who is literally being paid to shit post. It’s like the prevalence of bot accounts on Instagram all reposting viral memes and videos.
Everything is being turned into some method of extracting wealth rather than people just contributing to a fucking community like normal human beings. And the mods don’t do shit about these accounts because the one thing that hasn’t changed on Reddit is that the mods are basement dwelling losers who get off on being in charge of big subreddits. So if a bot is reposting viral content and contributing toward getting people to engage with and subscribe to the sub, the mods love it because it means there’s even more people they can “feel” they are in charge of and “managing”.
I think that a large group of people will inevitably turn miserable. Like, naturally. Humans aren’t supposed to be able to communicate with so many people at once.

This is just my theory. Im sure plenty of others think this too but Ive never done any research into it. I just dont think that people have cognitive ability to properly and effective absorb so many different opinions and viewpoints. Its like drinking from a fire hose. That’s why smaller communities online are always more fun. You get a few people with similar interests and dispositions together. Thats fulfilling. Once you go too big things become impersonal and social niceties break down.
I don’t get it, to be honest. It’s fine to not be a fan of players and teams, but guys like Jaylen Brown and LeBron simply existing in the world is somehow to so many people. I can’t imagine following a sport or league where I basically dislike everything about it, which this sub in particular definitely feels like so much of the time.
This space used to be full of cool highlights and interesting stats, but has devolved into people constantly complaining about everything NBA related.
Half the “fan subreddits” I partake in are partially or totally overrun with people who seem to just hate watch whatever media it is and are more into the community of collective bitterness than the thing itself or the actual fan community; all the negative engagement bait that has become integral to promoting things online has infested online culture to where now a lot of people crave that bait and engage with everything like its supposed to enrage them.
Many people are fans of feeling superior to things rather than the things themselves, the tribalism and the adversarial nature is a feature not a bug to an increasing # of people.

They are allowed to do them, but their contracts state that if they get hurt doing this, their contracts are void. Don’t expect to get paid if you hurt yourself doing something like this.
A good example of this is Jay Williams. He suffered career ending injuries from a motorcycle accident. The Bulls legally didn’t have to pay him a dime. But Jerry Reinsdorf felt so bad for him that he paid him the rest of his contract and kept him on the Bulls payroll so he could have health insurance.

I did mine on the north shore of Oahu. The view was definitely quite spectacular. You could see the entire island from up there.

I’m the same way. Zero issues with planes or jumping out of them, but I can’t lean over the edge of a balcony railing because I’m worried the railing will snap off and I’ll plummet to my death.
Yeah I don’t think this fixes any fear of heights. I have been trying to get over mine since I was like 8 years old. I would climb on my roof and just sit on the ledge for hours. I would walk to far ledges and stare over or climb trees and just stay there and in those moments the dizzy weird feeling would subside after some time and the height began to feel normal. But the next time I would try it would all be the same dizzy feeling.
Anything with basically my head being over maybe 10 feet makes me dizzy to this day.
Yeah skydiving isn’t the best form of exposure therapy because it doesn’t really match the feared situation.

Tbh I’ve been skydiving and it did nothing to relieve my fear of heights lol.
Cant speak for everyone, but since skydiving is so psychologically different from the typical feared situation (standing still near a ledge/ cliff/skyscraper window versus descending rapidly with specialized equipment), it didn’t seem to trigger the same fear response for me. At least not during the actual skydive.
Or maybe it’s just like any form of exposure therapy and it actually needs to be done repeatedly to have an effect.

My buddy was a minor leaguer and he had that he couldn’t ride a dirt bike or play pick up hockey in his contract. I assume skydiving would be covered under extreme sports or whatever. But I doubt Jaylen Brown would care that his contract was voided if this skydive went sideways.

I hate heights but sky diving was less scary to me than the Seattle needle or those type of high buildings
I have a fear of heights. Not phobia level, but I get anxiety being on balconies etc. Went skydiving. The free fall was so freeing. No anxiety. Once the parachute opened and the ground got closer, my anxiety came back.
I went skydiving once to try and conquer my fear of heights. It was local, because I don’t have “skydive in Egypt” money, and it my fear was not conquered. I do recommend it as a one time thing though, it’s a heck of an experience.
