Jermaine O’Neal gives Corliss Williamson a dirty foul which causes a mini brawl. A preview to Malice in the Palace.
I always considered this to be where the bad blood between the Pistons and Pacers *really* began. This is from the 2002 season, two years prior to the Pistons’ championship. After this dust-up, there was the 2004 ECF (with the Artest/World Peace flagrant late in Game 6) and then the Malice early the next season.
Artest being the calm one here is interesting
Both Big Ben and Artest are the peace makers here which is funny lol
Artest was calm before the cup got thrown at him too lol
You can always tell who the real tough guys in the league are. Corliss beaned Jermaine with the ball and Jermaine just stared at him. Then Jermaine swings on two bystanders. He knew better than to try and punch Corliss.
We need to go back to every team having a guy or two like this. There are a few teams in particular that badly need someone with that energy.
like the pacers signing james johnson after giannis came into the locker room wanting the game ball he already had :D
the Kurt Thomas memorial roster spot
Without question that was what O’Neal was thinking. He wanted nooo part of getting into it with Corliss, which was smart, bc that dude Did. Not. Play. Punching a couple of smaller dudes was a try to save face and look tough move, but everyone knew O’Neal was not that guy anyway.
Big Nasty was always one of my favorites when he was on the Kings
“Big Nasty!!!” Forgot that was his nickname. Fitting.
His ass wasn’t really trying to fight because he had him on face to face and did nothing until people came between them
Unless you’re a fan at the Malice at the Palace, in which case he’ll do a 40 yard dash before sucker punching you
I’m not going to lie that’s like the greatest punch I ever seen lol but you see he had that smoke for the fans and not the Pistons players
I second this. Put his whole body weight into that punch. Big buddy didn’t know what hit him. To be fair tho, ain’t nobody trying to fight Ben Wallace straight up
Multiple players have said that O’Neal actually slipped at the last second, likely reducing the impact of the punch. If he had had his footing, that fan would have been watching Pistons games from a nursing home.
You can see the slip on the replay. And thank God he did because honestly that dude might have actually died.
David Stern rigged that puddle to be on the floor. Always thinking ahead.
Facts. Corliss standing there and JO started pushing when Ben got between them
He wasnt scared thats why he fouled him hard
lol @ the announcer.
Started announcing like it was wrestlemania lmao
Hahahahahaha, i had this video on mute so thanks for saying something. Gave me a good laugh because It definitely sounds like Jim Ross and Michael cole calling a wrestlemania event
I swear he just passed the mic to Vince McMahon lol
This is how it always was back then lmfao. Had to change of course but there’s something oddly sanguine about reminiscing on those times in sports.
WWE ass commentary lol
Somebody’s gotta light him up 😂 I love the announcer is acting like O’neal is insane but he’s encouraging the pistons players to do the same 😂😂
He’s not a pistons announcer either. That would be George blaha and Greg kelser.
Side note, George Blaha is the last of the great announcers. Boston Celtics had Johnny Most, Lakers had Chick Hearn, and Detroit has George Blaha. He will go into the HoF.
Idc what he does I loved it hahah he was down for the fight but just wanted the pistons to win it
Corliss Williamson, AKA “Big Nasty”.
He was a really strong dude.
Aka Scorliss Williamson
O’Neal throws like 4 punches/elbows and connects on none of them and then gets bear hugged by his own coach who he tried to swing on as well. Looks like a real fucking loser in this clip.
Always was a fucking loser that’s why he played in Indy
Tree Rollins is not Jeff Van Gundy
Wallace and Curry just shrugging off O’Neal is hilarious.
“Was that a breeze?” - Michael Curry
Literally a shoulder check.
Let us not forget Corliss’ nickname. Civility was never to be expected and that’s why we loved him.
It’s crazy for me seeing him on the Spurs bench. I was in like 1st grade hearing tales of Big Nasty from Russellville then watching his Arkansas run a couple years later. Corliss and DMac are as beloved in Arkansas as an athlete possibly can be
John Barry!
I forgot he went to the Pistons, the dude was so important to the Bench Mob in Sacramento.
Pistons will always be jermaine’s daddy
Did JO punch Ben Wallace in the face? Lmao
Jonathan Bender. Who else thought he was gonna be something special?
Him and Danny Granger
O’Neal was dirty, bro.
I hate that they don’t have the context. Like 2 or 3 plays before this Corlis gave a hard foul to O’Neal under the basket. This was the get back foul and Corlis threw the ball at him.
Dude. That whole Pistons team was dirty af.
Jermaine was mad as shit he and his boys was getting they ass busted that’s all. Frustration at its finest here
That’s Corliss? Damn he looks like Tobias.
That Pistons team was so cool man, bunch of dogs
Jermaine shoving Big Ben - is balls of steel!
Two fight videos posted today and both of them with Reggie Miller in the middle of it all
Ron Artest being the peacemaker is as strange as watching Rick Mahorn in the same role at the Malice at the Palace two years later.
Wasn’t this the same episode where Turtle got punched in the face by Ron Artest? Vinny never should have given him those courtside tickets
Magic legend Tree Rollins
Didn’t realized Tobias Harris were that big back then.
scoreless williamson
Jermaine O’Neal punched 2 different people and got ignored by both. I guess he hits like a wet noodle.
Man I remember how long it took for young me to get over being told Jermaine and Shaquille were not related in any way.
JO wasnt scared of anyone, that was Ben Wallace he threw hands at, not even crazy ass Ron Artest wanted any of that smoke. He was also pretty young here
Be serious, he was face to face with Corliss and wanted none of that smoke and only started throwing hands once people were being restrained
i wouldnt say restrained, as soon as Ben touched him he threw. He looked more like he didnt want to be the first one to get physical. My opinion of him isnt based off if this incident, hes always been this way
