My biggest gripe is a scoreboard operator who’s too good. When I see a bucket and I look at the score I want to see the points flip over. Some of the guys are so on top of it that I’ll be looking at the score for 4-5 seconds before I realize that it’s been updated

As a clevelander I must say we all made fun of it when they added it but it’s matured into meme territory at this point and me and the boys joke about how we can’t tell who is winning on other team’s broadcasts without the diff.

My issue on the on-screen scoreboards is that they usually don’t make them match the uniforms. Like if you’ve got Milwaukee in green jerseys with white letters vs Portland in red with black letters, then make the scoreboard display MIL ### in white with a green background, and have POR ### in black with a red background. I think ESPN does this, and it’s the one thing about ESPN broadcasts that I really like. It’s an instant visual cue to let you know which team is in which uniform. Especially helpful when you have two teams with similar colors, like CHI/TOR/POR/etc, or when you’ve got teams wearing colors they don’t normally wear.

I feel seen, I refuse to watch cavs home broadcasts on league pass as this drives me nuts

I’ve joked about it too, but I believe their scorebug displays team fouls (in some screenshots it does, some it doesn’t so maybe it’s changed recently?), which IMO is one of the main differences between a good scorebug and bad one. Neither of the Raptors networks show team fouls on their scorebug and it infuriates me.

I love the C Diff sign. My dad was suffering from c diff at the time and it really made him feel seen.

Well that’s annoying. This is how I was helping my kindergartner learn basic addition and subtraction last year.

There’s a reason for it, it’s not just a score thing. It’s also a front office culture thing, what are you doing to be the “difference”. Theres a story behind it if anyone looks it up.

Preach OP! I know it’s irrational but “the diff” annoys me more than I should let it & I avoid the Cavs broadcast. It’s the dumbest reason I root against a franchise 

This is the primary reason if I only watch the away or national broadcasts of Cavs games. Please accept that your audience has basic math skills.

I feel the same about TNT having at least three shot clocks on the screen at all times. We can we see the shot clock on the basket, we can see it on the score bug, but let’s put another one at the top of the key in bright red just in case…

They should put an asterisk next to the graphic and then add a bright red ticker at the bottom which constantly explains that diff is short for point differential

Couple questions/comments:

1. Why the hell are you complaining about this on July 31? There is no basketball happening now. It cannot possibly bother you that much.
   
2. Are you seeing a different version of the Diff than everyone else? It’s a couple pixels on the scoreboard. It’s not that big. It doesn’t take away anything else from the broadcast.
   
3. You really don’t need to take it as a personal attack on your math skills. A lot of people have the game on in the background while they are scrolling their phones or doing something else. It’s a sign of the times.
