We love The Mirror on /r/washingtonwizards but his utter lack of offense meant he was gonna get minimal rotation minutes from us unless he demonstrated he leveled up defense even more to compensate. He’s also 25 so no real “he can develop a 3” cope either. The Summer League was his chance to show he understood and could perform his role well enough to get a full contract with a Wiz team that is no longer tanking. Sad situation. I know it’s Summer League so staff may not have been taking it seriously but letting him go back out there might have ended this kid’s career.

Yeah, but he played on a tanking team that is now hoping to pivot into contention. He has an extremely limited offensive bag at the NBA level, shoots 29% from deep, and has middling defensive instincts. He is probably one-and-done in the NBA.

Playing on an ACL tear is asking for other ligaments to be injured

Any acl tear is surgery it stabilizes the knee when cutting and jumping. This isn’t one that gets better you either fix it or live with instability.

This isn’t true at all, every acl is different. Klay was doing jumping jacks on the sideline after his wanting to come back in. There’s plenty of cases in Aussie rules football where guys have played the rest of the game not knowing they’d done it. You have full control over your foot placement, it’s just much more loose and can give way much easier if something else happens.

The pain isn’t necessarily super bad after the initial shock, I’ve done ankles that’ve been much more painful than my acl. I did meniscus as well and it swelled up straight away so I couldn’t keep going, but a few weeks later prior to surgery I was running around shooting the ball just fine. You can control your foot.

You dont repair your ACL to regain stability, the stability problem is relatively minor (varies tho, some are extremely unstable), specially with training and good musculature, the surgery is more to get back the protective function of the ACL, without the ligament you are way more likely to have further injuries. This is only worth doing for people that are still active and doing sports that require it, like skiing, basketball, running is very linear, it has no rotation, no pivots, its not really a problem unless you are doing thing on uneven ground, etc.

So many injuries happen because people feel fine without it and risk going back to playing, when its a freaking terrible idea.

The surgery is also very traumatic, it causes permanent damage to the knee, and takes a freaking long time to heal from, its no weird for people to recover badly and just stop playing, so they end up worse than without the surgery.

When you have your knee replacement (almost a certainty) maybe they can throw in a ACL allograft on the house. Two for one kinda deal

Did you not feel it snap, i remember my injury, and the pain was not terrible, but i knew the instant it happened that my acl popped. I also had a ton of bleeding, knee was exploding after an hour, draining the blood was better than peeing after holding it for a day.
