Deandre Hunter crosses Giddey so hard that it literally breaks his ankles
Neither Giddey nor Hunter was quite the same after this play.
Seeing him randomly fall off made me sad; I wanted him to retire a Cav after that.
The Deandre Hunter experience. One hype moment followed by 3 weeks of disappearing
It’s fitting we traded you guys LeVert for him. Both are dudes are occasionally brilliant, but often terrible.
Hunter was a monster for the first month with the Cavs at least, but holy shit was he bad this past season.
Yeah he had a fantastic stretch in 24-25 that a lot of Hawks fans were excited about and didn’t like him getting traded. But honestly the trade was great for us because it allowed us to get off his contract neutral value instead of having to attach a 1st to him to move him.
We tried to tell people and everyone called us dumb af for trading him at his peak value, even our own sub.
Bruh basically got his eye poked out in game after he got traded.
Giddey had the best season of his career following this play
He actually WAS having the best season of his career UNTIL this happened. He got injured on this play. His stats dropped after this because of the ankle injury lol.
I think that’s what he means
He ended up having surgery a month or so ago on the ankle
Yea we moved passed this too fast when it happened. He genuinely fried him.
Usually when you see a player go down like this, it’s almost always because their foot got caught somewhere. this was clean AF
That or a push off
Yeah finally one that’s not the offensive player stepping on someone’s foot
Pretty sure Lance vs Jeff Green was the only time one player stepped on the other’s foot, but usually it is a push off.
Steph on CP3 comes to mind
Or donovan breaking 2 players ankles this past season was also them stepping on feet
TBH CP3 was already going down when he stepped on Curry’s foot.
Clean? Dude injured himself before the crossover even happened. What an overreaction to a nothing play.
people don’t just injured themselves standing. He was reacting to Deandre’s fakes and movements.
It all adds up
He rolled his ankle with DeAndre perfectly in front of him, well-guarded. Freak accident. People get hurt all the time doing basic things.
I don’t think it’s clean af to crossover a dude who had a non-contact ankle injury.
Looks more like dude that fell was already injured and that was the straw the broke the camels back.
He broke his ankles but they were already broken
“Dude that fell” how do you not know Josh giddeys name lmaoo he went viral for the pedo allegations
Cmon man it’s not like his name is in the title of the post or anything
Not really. Giddy just has terrible feet. Like awful.
that’s why he got fried
It doesn’t literally break his ankles??????? Are you unsure of the word literally????
Well in this context, Giddey was literally out a few games due to the ankle sprain caused by this move.
I wish you’d made the post with that caption and then I wouldn’t be wasting my life commenting on something that should have been right from the start.
You could also simply not waste your life commenting…by not commenting…no one really asked for or required your input. Use your time how you want to, homie, but don’t act like anyone made you spend your time and energy here. Weird stuff.
How could it be the captions fault that you randomly assumed it was using literally wrong and then found out he was using literally to mean literally 😂
A “break” in this context would mean a broken or fractured bone. That’s why it’s not “literally” broken. It’s injured.
Okay, so you wanted to see “Deandre Hunter causes Giddey to have a minor ATFL Tear” as the title?
Nah, same title, just remove “literally”.
Okay but what if I want to say literally suffers minor ATFL tear
Did you even read the thread I’m responding to? The guy I’m responding to got mad that he used literally correctly after learning he got his foot sprained. There is no mention by him of him being pedantic about whether it’s a sprain or a break and that being the reason he’s upset.
Edit: jk lmao he just responded to me saying the same thing as you, turns out the guy is just a dork.
I read the thread 🤷♂️
You claim literally is being used correctly in the caption/title and I disagree with that.
I get why you’re saying what you’re saying, because I understand break is typically bones and sprains is ligaments, but break isn’t a word that is exclusively used on bones.
He got hit with an ankle breaker and literally his ankles “broke” from it and got injured. No one is ever going to snap a bone from an ankle breaker, if this isn’t an applicable use of literally for an ankle breaker what could possibly ever be correct?
I see where you’re coming from, but to me “literally” is being used in a deceptive, overselling fashion here. Literally is meant to be used in really clear ways - in this case it’s simply bait. Lots of people are opening this video expecting to see Giddey writhing in pain due to a broken bone. Literally and ambiguity do not go together well in my opinion.
If I sprained my wrist, I wouldn’t go around telling people I literally broke my arm.
Yeah it’d be a bit weird to say you broke your arm but if you tore a ligament in your wrist snowboarding and said you literally broke your wrist snowboarding I think it’d be a bit weird for someone to take issue with that. But I guess you’re right he should change the title from saying that Giddey literally broke his leg and just have it say something more reasonable and understandable like “breaks Giddey’s ankles, literally”.
Thank you
Sprain in not a break? What?
Break typically means fracture or bone break. Sprains are generally not referred to as breaks, just like with other body parts you can sprain.
still wasting your time?
Reddit final boss
Thank you. Stupid caption.
a caption can’t have intelligence though
literally
It can lack sense, it can lack soundness, it can lack self-consistency. That is what is meant when “something” (rather than “someone” or an agent) is stupid, which can have multiple meanings for a word in different contexts.
In this case, caption is not sound because “literally” requires it to be not metaphoric but indicative of actual events, in this case physical breaking of an ankle :)
what? i thought we were just being pedantic and pretending not to understand what things meant
hey I didn’t downvote you. if you say you were pretending not to understand what things meant and being pedantic (not precisely but ok), you were, I am not doubting it.
It is conceivable that someone thinks saying something like “this thing is stupid” is not being literal, when it can absolutely be literal.
i don’t care about downvotes lol i understand the desire for words to be used correctly but i get irked by reddit’s unwillingness to accept normal sentences or phrases like we all know what the title of this post was suggesting and acting like it’s a horrible misuse of words or something is just petty and strange
I honestly thought that he might have broken his ankle physically (not dramatically like Hayward or anything but he falls and breaks it) when I saw the word “literally” and clicked on it lol.
It is not that far fetched, people can trip and break their ankles literally during an NBA game. I haven’t watched the league this year much so I was curious :)
Maybe if you’re the writer
I have the same gripe. I believe they had to update the dictionary due to the frequent misuse. Lol. Please learn what a word means before using it.
u people are so corny about this lol people have been doing this for hundreds of years, you’re no smarter than the average person for being a linguistic conservative
That’s kind of how language works though. It’s not static.
Lots of new words make logical sense though. At least people have the excuse of being lazy/efficient in cases too. Saying ‘literally’ as a trend instead of using ‘figuratively’ is just dumb.
https://learningenglishwithoxford.com/2024/02/29/15-modern-english-words-with-different-meanings-in-the-past/amp/
By your own logic, you’re the guy this applies to now.
Whats up with all the angry Giddey fans in comments. Maybe he didn’t literally break his ankle, but isn’t this what people call an ankle breaker move? And it’s clean af
No he LITERALLY broke his ankle off this play. Not a break, but he spent the next few games out with a grade 2 sprain from this play. It’s funny that the guy used literally properly and people are so mad assuming he didn’t
My guy, maybe sit this one out.
You say, he LITERALLY broke his ankle. Not a break.
Literally broke =\= not a break.
Can you tell me what would possibly be a better application of a literal ankle breaker than an ankle breaker that leads to an ankle injury? I understand typically bones = break and ligaments = sprain in medicine, but that’s such a stupid line to try draw here
He broke his ankles, literally. That’s a correct statement. Not my fault you aren’t smart enough to comprehend English.
His ankles didn’t work after the “ankle breaker”. Here let me give you the definition of break to help you try get past grade 3 reading
break1 /breɪk/ verb 1.separate or cause to separate into pieces as a result of a blow, shock, or strain.
Notice how bones breaking isn’t the only application of the word break?
I didn’t read anything after you confirmed my point and said it was a stupid line to draw. You’re wrong and you just said it yourself, see yourself out, embarrassing.
I accidentally read the rest.
If we’re down this far, you may as well use an actual dictionary definition of break. Please find where you are right in the Webster’s dictionary. (A clue for you, you’re wrong).
1 a : to separate into parts with suddenness or violence broke a plate
Break the chocolate bar in half.
b (1) : to cause (a bone) to separate into two or more pieces : FRACTURE broke my femur
(2) : to fracture a bone of (a bodily part) broke a finger
(3) : to dislocate or dislocate and fracture a bone of (the neck or back)
What? You only have to satisfy one definition, not all of them, the literal first definition of what you linked is satisfied entirely and is quite similar to the Oxford dictionary definition I copied above. You’re flexing your 3rd grade reading comprehension further. I doubt you’re actually self aware enough to feel embarrassed after this exchange, but you should.
His ankle was separated into parts with suddenness. He literally tore a core piece of his ankle into parts lmao
Cause a bone to separate you moron. Starting to think you must be trolling or a bot because nobody could be this intentionally obtuse. You keep suggesting I have a 3rd grade reading level, which is beginning to feel like straight projection.
Cause a bone you moron.
What does this mean and what do you think you are responding to lmao.
Ok you edited it, what part of the first definition mentions a bone in what you copy pasted? You only have to satisfy one definition of a word. Or do you think a plate can’t be broken because it’s not a bone? This is honestly so funny to read you try piece an argument together
Also just because I’m already here arguing with someone near illiterate can I share with you the Webster definition of literally, I even used the dictionary you wanted this time lmao
2 informal : in effect : virtually —used in an exaggerated way to emphasize a statement or description that is not literally true or possible I literally died of embarrassment
It just literally bent them a lot.
Colloquially speaking, “literally” often literally means figuratively
I don’t give a shit what you or any “language is fluid” idiot says. This is a war I will fight to my dying breath. Literally and figuratively have opposing definitions and dumb people using the wrong word don’t get to win this one.
dumb people using the wrong word
bless your heart
[removed]
Contronyms can go eat a dick.
I literally couldn’t have said it better. 😂
google terrible, awesome, fantastic, incredible. Google the etymology of ‘dumb’.
get a grip, it’s not that important and not a real hill to die on since it’s been used like that for centuries at this point
Nerd
Man learns that living languages evolve over time.
yeah but it’s kind of dumb to use it like that in this situation
No. It doesn’t.
I hate it, you hate it, but we gotta come to terms with it. It’s an ugly world out there, literally.
yup, it sure does. google it, champ
Well I’m going with Miriam Webster before I go with NJ wine guy, so yes. It does.
Changed about 8 years ago. It was frustrating to see happen
he got hurt. close enough, late night hyperbole
Late Night Hyperbole would be a great band name
Gonna start a band called Early Morning Embellishment
Why use words if they don’t mean what you say? May as well put, Giddey becomes a rocket and explodes into the sun if it’s not going to be an accurate title.
it’s notable that Giddy literally hurt his ankles on the play. it’s about as close to a literal ankle-breaker as we’ve ever had in the nba. have a little fun with it jesus christ lol
You interested in working for a news publication by chance? Need someone to write the headlines
i forgot that the Australians come online around this time and will be upset if i slander their baby Epstein
Comparing Epstein to Giddey is disrespectful to almost everyone, Giddey was 19, the girl was 16, she lied about her age to get into the club, but its Giddeys fault and not the club’s.
As an Aussie, Giddey is completey unknown. If I walked down my street and asked everybody who walked past me “Do you know Josh Giddey?” an overwhelming and vast majority would answer no.
Only ball fans and avid sports fans know him here.
Ur a tool. Im glad the warriors are gonnna go back to irrelevancy soon
I’m an American and this is a stupid comment.
Nah fuck Giddey he means nothing to us, title’s still shit tho
So that confirms you dont know what “literally” means because you literally said you were using hyperbole there. So basically ur dumb
Kinda screwed up the rest of his season. He was never quite the same after that, when he DID play that is.
I forget Deandre Hunter is on my team
Kings legend, baby
Don’t worry, it’s also normal for that to happen during the season too
Then he’ll randomly give you a great game and you’ll be like wait, wtf, why doesn’t he just do that all the time? And your team sub will be filled with “where the hunter haters at?” posts.
Yeah, I live in Atlanta
Giddey has had lingering issues with his right ankle even before this play. This certainly didn’t help cause it was nasty af.
He had surgery on it in the offseason.
I was wondering the same thing.
Figuratively
Yeah, but, like, literally figuratively
he’s gonna lead the league in assists next year tho so dw
if deandre hunter leads the league in assists next year i’ll eat my shorts
darius acuff getting his development stuffed by deandre hunter suddenly gaining prime steve nash passing ability would be hilarious
Norman Powell x Josh Giddey combo
pure Glass Canon
Scoring 120 per game, while giving up 130.
The 1990-91 Denver Nuggets experience.
In their season debut they scored 158 points…and lost, as GSW scored 162 points.
It’s gonna be a race between him Trae and Hali. Fuck it I’ll throw Cade in the mix
Don’t forget lamelo
I think Lebron might average 8-6-18 this season.
Lebron will play 55 regular season games, at max
I hope so. I’d be cool with Embiid playing 25 max too if it means both of them are somewhat healthy for the playoffs.
Cheeky pfp btw my guy, Koji gonna go wild
Need to see the xray
I’ve always wondered why Cleveland’s broadcast has the point differential on the scoreboard. Is math hard in Cleveland?
I really wanted to respond, “What’s the diff?” but I agree with this. The Cavs are really lame to put the point differential on screen
Well they are below average in math scores at State and National level
The owner started it as an in arena thing for blowout games and it eventually made its way onto the broadcast. The org also uses it as an internal slogan to “be the diff” which I find downright adorable. Obviously people in Cleveland can do basic math, it is just a fun idea from Dan Gilbert. Personally I also love it, the split seconds you save mentally computing allow me to focus on or minute details of the game like off ball defense, foot work, screen/cut angles, etc.
[deleted]
If you say stuff like this you are just rude.
I can’t believe you actually believe this.
Well I don’t think Cleveland has rocket scientists growing outta there
No, but we do have Rocket Money
Eh fuck off we invented airplanes in Ohio 😡
“Literally breaks his ankles” I don’t think that word means what you think it means
In this case he did literally break that mans ankles, he was limping away after.
Like he got hit by a sniper. Got damn lol
I don’t think you know what literally means.
This is legit. Usually it’s some bullshit push-off or stepping on their foot.
Giddey is fucking terrible on defense and I’m tired of my fellow Bulls fans pretending that he’s not.
His foot speed is so bad. He can’t stay in front of 90% of NBA guards.
Black socks and yellow shoes is a diabolical combo
I thought Hunter would do something close to what OG did for the Knicks
Sent him to the underworld from Ghost (1990)
Man, I thought Hunter was the missing piece for a minute
A preview of what teams will be doing to the Lakers this upcoming season.
Is this why so many players don’t really try on defense
You literally dont understand English
Only an Aussie would walk off that in such Agoniddey
You’ve got to stop.
ICE SKATES
Why do we need “The diff”
…And the giddler goes down
Dunk on that pedo!
Giddle me this, Bodmon 🦇
my buddy’s ankles snapped just trying that crossover once
They could have used him in the finals
Just a perfect highlight. Probably the most devastating one ive ever seen. Only Vince’s olympic dunk might be better
MF better play like this when he comes back this season.
Streamable sucks
LiTeRalLy didnt break a single ankle
I’m gonna need a still shot comparing this to when Paul George cooked Chris Paul
lowkey amazing
their season ended when he fell
Umm, it did not actually BREAK his ankle…
Two bums
Kings legend right there!
Giddey rolled his ankle on plant, before the cross. Nothing to see here; y’all are blind and looking for drama; I should introduce you to my wife.
It wasn’t from the cross, the cross just looked amazing b/c of his ankle injury.
Apparently literally isn’t literal anymore.
Learn the definition of “literally”
Giddey is a pedo so fuck em
This might be the cleanest ankle break of all time
That’s not what literally means.
Literally?
giddey falling on D like a high schooler
Gotta love dunking on a child predator
