His issue was never his on court production or attitude and always was his contract being too big for what he brings to the game.

He’s a great scorer that would compliment any contending team if he was on a reasonable deal. His defensive effort is suspect but he has the ability to play league average defense from an athletic perspective.

Because he’s being paid like a 1st option, Lavine on a minimum contract being the 3rd or 4th option for a contender is absolutely a positive asset.

He was hurt his last full year in Chicago but I’m pretty sure last year’s “injuries” were tanking related.

Have you actually watched Lavine play basketball? He refuses to play as an off-ball guy. He almost exclusively plays iso ball. So he doesn’t really help Acuff’s development at all.

If he played as an exclusively off-ball guy I’d be all for it, but he’s going to want to be featured and play as an ISO guy and the Kings are trying to move away from that.

Edit: For reference, only about 55% of Zach Lavine’s 3 point shot makes are from assisted shots since his 3 year. That’s super low for a guy as a “floor spacer.” I guess you respect him as a spot up shooter, but he likes to ISO.

Edit 2: But I also doubt the Kings buy him out unless he’s willing to give up a substantial amount of money which I doubt he will.

LaVine isn’t really interested in playing competitive basketball at the moment. I don’t blame him but he’s pretty much he has the ball or he’s standing still. Him being on the team only helps Acuff if Zach wanted to play active basketball for the Kings but he doesn’t.

I’m not saying he wouldn’t do this stuff elsewhere on a better team but he has shown he doesn’t want to in Sacramento.

The issue is about lavine is that he isn’t a good vet for development (I lived in sac for a little bit and HAD to watch the kings with buds). He needs the ball and zones out when the ball isn’t in his hands, and isn’t a good playmaker at all. He’d mostly be taking touches out of Acuff. Sabonis will probably be better.

There are only so many teams and places he can go where the rules allow him to get paid more, right? LeBron just took $8 million. I get that Lavine’s priorities are probably different than LeBron’s, but I’m not sure the market dictates Lavine getting a lot of money if released.

His buyout will surely be offset by the amount he signs for with another team this season. There’s no real basis for any team paying him a lot of money this season, since it doesn’t result in more money actually going into Lavine’s pocket.

It’s likely that he signs for more than the minimum for the ²⁷⁄₂₈ season, but the minimum isn’t off the table for this year if he’s bought out.

I stopped listening to James Ham ever since he started pushing gambling ads on his podcast. It wasn’t just that he had gambling ads, but once he took their money, he started having these bits where he’s role playing the part, “I just started sports betting and it’s really interesting how it gives me this extra umph, edge during the game.” That kind of commentary, super lame, sell out behavior.

Idk, just turned me off for a more locals focused podcast.

The worst part is that he has moments where he just glides through the defense with ease and is back to chilling again after that.

The passiveness wasn’t always like this. Honestly he looks check out. It’s a shame because his combination of athleticism and shooting is very enjoyable, but we’ve never seen him play for something meaningful apart from that short lived bulls run of form with lonzo and Caruso

Yeah I guess I’m willing to concede he might be a losing player but in the brief stints where Chicago was actually competitive he was great. People just say things and act like context isn’t important when it’s the only thing that matters.

It’s not. KAT treaded water on bad teams for a long time and still put up impressive impact metrics and +/-. His impact on offenses was exceptional, even when his defense sucked.

Lavine scores very well but he doesn’t do anything else to improve his team’s offense. He doesn’t pass well, he doesn’t keep the offense flowing, he’s not a good decoy. He just scores well for himself and that’s it, and then plays bad defense.

That’s why his +/- is so bad, when there’s been plenty of other prolific scorers on bad teams who still make a bigger impact.

He was on a 46-win Bulls team and still had a negative on/off. DeRozan, Caruso and Lonzo were all considerably above 0 for that same team.

But let’s NOT act like he’s not part of it.
