I tried COLA once and it killed tanking, but it also prevents traded picks from being in the lottery.  That made it near impossible to get a dynasty going.  Not sure if that was part of the goal of COLA, but I abandoned that league due to having too much parity.

Anyways, I just wanted to say that you’re the best for making this game.  It taught me so much about the league and it still stays fun somehow.

Bro made a better game than /r/NBA2k. Respect.

This game pre dates claude. So I don’t wanna see any ClaudeSlop slander. BBGM is the greatest free game to ever grace a management sim lovers hands. Dumbmatter is a legend along the likes of reddits most elite like shittymorph.

this is a great game, considering its a free browser game. but man I wish there was an in depth fm style basketball manager game with training, xs and os, team dynamics and all that sicko stuff. 

on second thought, this would kill my marriage and make me unemployed, so I should be glad it doesn’t exist.

I kind of wonder why a big company like 2K doesn’t put a small team on something like this. I guess they only want massive home runs, but there is a niche audience for stuff like this, especially if it could have some more bells and whistles.

Played this game for about a decade and the level of care and detail that goes into it always brings me back.

There’s a few cynics in this thread but I wanna echo what other people are saying. This isn’t vibe-coded junk, it’s an ongoing project from one guy who has constantly improved the game and not once asked for a cent.

It’s not the deepest in terms of in-game simulation, management, or player development, but for a free browser-based game, it has an addicting gameplay loop and deep customization to go along with an insane amount of stat tracking. It’s a throwback in every sense to the better days of the internet and I hope that it helps me kill time at work for another decade.

I have nothing but the highest of praises for u/dumbmatter. This game has been perfect for years, but he keeps finding ways to make it better.

If you were like me and tired with 2K’s franchise mode, you need to get this sim into your life.

Every year you post and every year, I lose a day of productivity. Thanks for the great game.

How do you draft?

i’ve been loving legacy run…. it has a gm like mode just by running it back and taking into account nba history, when to trade, tracking players growth curve, and chasing titles.

Love the game, man. Haven’t played in a bit but easily dumped a couple hundred hours into it over the years. Has there been any thought into developing more ‘rpg’ bits, meaning like more discussions with ownership, navigating media/player relationships or even Hall of Fame recognition if I retire? Shit, even a little avatar of my ass in a suit lol Love little details like that.

You’re a legend I played this like a decade ago…not surprised it’s still going

This game is fun to play once a year for me on like a weeklong sprint. I do have a few nitpicks:

1. The AI teams trading. Every season there’s 2-3 teams dumping their superstar players for a 2nd round pick. Or trading 3 highly valuable firsts for a late first.

2. Rating fluctuations seem extremely random. It’s common to see a superstar at 23 turn into a end of bench scrub by 26 or 27. So you end up just selling high on a 25 year old, draft a bunch of teens again and rinse + repeat.

These are less of an issue IMO in the early simulation years. Like, 50s - 80s generally play decently. I’m not smart enough to tell you why.

Anyways, it’s still worth playing and much better than 2k IMO. Not trying to hate, just thought I’d post and see if others had similar experiences.

Been playing this game for about 10 years. It hits the line of fast simming but still enough to do very well for me. I’m about 2000 years into my save and blew the league up into nearly 100 teams and I still have just as much fun as I originally did

Amazing. I saw from your about page that you liked Baseball Mogul. I also loved that and am trying to learn some programming based on a baseball GM style project though I’m very far from having anything productive.

The big question for me is, as always when I see these cool homebrew things that do sports stuff, is how do you handle getting access to data and representing NBA players and data while feeling confident that you’re in a fair use or respecting existing licenses type of zone. Is there a fair use rationale, or maybe an open access data source akin to Sean Lahman’s DB for baseball, or perhaps some scraping to put things all together?
