Michael Jordan (who he is comparing LeBron to) got to play with Scottie Pippen, a top ten player of that era who was naturally drafted to his team. Despite his ability and championship contributions, Pippen was paid between 2-3 million a year over 7 years. A player of that level will never get paid that little in today’s NBA and would instead demand a max contract taking up a large portion of the teams salary cap. Pippen being underpaid allowed the Bulls to fill their team with solid role players and contributors, Pippen was like the sixth highest paid guy on his own team despite being a top player in the entire league. LeBron has teamed up with other stars but they always get paid.

Barkley is hilarious. He’s also a hypocrite, and a hater. But he’s more famous for being hilarious.

When I saw that quote from Barkley criticizing LeBron for ring chasing it made me wonder if he’s suffering from dementia, or being deliberately disingenuous. This guy publicly forced himself off of 2 teams in a 5 year period, and both times directed himself to teams that were considered stacked.

It’s been bought up in the past, (one of the earlier Open Court episodes back when they aired those) but his defense for this is that by this point in his career he was past his prime and therefore it was acceptable to ring chase.

I mean no one has Charles as the GOAT do they? So who cares if he teamed? But there is a difference he was 35, Hakeem was 36 and Pippen was 33 as opposed to 25,28,26 for Lebron, Wade and Bosh. Or 29, 22,25 when Lebron, Kyrie and Love got together. Or even in LA Lebron was 34 and AD was 26. When Charles teamed up they were passed their prime. Lebron has teamed, up to this point, with players during their primes with each player being the leader of a team before getting together and multiple #1 picks. So Lebron did this all at a younger age of when Charles got together with Hakeem and Pippen, you add Luca and now the 76ers, I mean there is a difference.

The truth of the matter is old & new great players alike almost at one point or another start to put pressure on their organizations to win if they haven’t won one in demanding a trade. Charles did it. New players do it.

I’m not even that much of a Lebron guy for several reasons but I have no problem with him going to Philly to try to get another. To me whatever happens his legacy is already set as one of the all-time greats. There are only great players within eras.

I don’t think there’s such a thing as a GOAT given how much the game has changed in rules, is reffed, and how we foolishly use a team success metric (and for some reason only the more recent ones count) to largely determine this made up term. Where’s the Bill Russell supporters at with 11?

LeBron has never asked for a trade in 24 seasons. Always played out his contracts, when he did join a new team (in free agency) he created something new. Never went to an established juggernaut.
