The only thing that would change is it would give justification for the NBA to pretend there was no cap circumvention if that’s the NBA’s goal. People from Aspiration would still have pointed out that something was fishy based on the amount Leonard was being paid relative to other celebrities, especially considering Leonard’s lack of social media presence. The league (at least on paper) absolutely cares that the amount paid is commensurate with the work performed and the value the player brings to the table because it is absolutely a means by which the cap can be circumvented.

I live in MA and travel to RI for work somewhat frequently. I lived in Rhode Island for two years. I got married in Rhode Island, as did my lifelong best friend. I grew up going to Pawsox and Providence Bruins games with my old man cause they were cheaper than the big league teams and it was still a night out together enjoying our love of sports.

The point is Rhode Island is real af and not a psy op. Absolutely fantastic Italian food, pizza, sandwich shops, seafood and a style of calamari of their own. Coffee cabinets, hot wieners and getting hammered in Newport on St. Paddy’s like a fucking tourist

Even Daniel Theis got a piece (after signing a minimum contract)

Let’s face it, balmer should be gone by now just due to aspiration. But if Pablo can show balmer’s money going to RIFC, it would be pretty much a carbon copy of the aspiration circumvention. Nothing definitive but the connective dots were laid out. The governor intervened and ultimately got the teams stadium built. He and the team owner attended Clippers games and seats were owned by the marketing firm who works with the current Clippers jersey patch, Visit Rawanda. Both were dodgy about his involvement. Daniel Theis was announced as an investor during his time with the Clippers while Kawhi was not. Maybe it’s all a coincidence but it’s just another thing that doesn’t pass the smell test given the timing and familiar pattern of behavior

Kahwi is an investor, it was kept very quiet that he was an investor, the RI governor provided a tie breaking vote to approve public funds for the team’s stadium, the governor went to the Clippers home opener with the owner of the team that received the public funds, the governor and team owner were sitting in seats owned by the Clippers jersey sponsor, who replaced Aspiration. All of this happened right around the time the Aspiration payments to Kawhi stopped coming.

Thats where he ended this episode. He didn’t show any direct link to the Kawhi cap circumvention story, but is saying there is a lot of coincidence here that deserves further digging.

And even that was also only a claim by Brett Johnson (owner of Rhode Island FC) that sounded like a very press-friendly response when asked about Leonard as an investor— which I’m sure he would’ve said when asked about any investor. It was never explicitly said by Leonard and co.

It’s an interesting story of government corruption using public tax dollars to build a privately owned stadium, but, as OP said in another comment, this doesn’t smell like cap circumvention. It seems like a corruption story.
