[Archives] R/NBA’s reaction to OKC taking a 3-1 lead over the Warriors in 2016.
Here’s the post game thread: https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/4kxqxj/deleted_by_user/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3
Man, losing that series really changed the NBA. Would have been crazy if Durant stayed and they still managed to get Paul George.
They wouldn’t have gotten PG if KD stayed, but they would have gotten Al Horford
They had all the pieces to trade for PG so it would have been technically possible.
They had Oladipo and Sabonis before KD even left.
2016 is actually such a crazy fucking year with these crazy swing series
2016 had OKC blowing a 3-1 lead for the WCF, Golden State blowing a 3-1 for the Finals, Cleveland Indians blowing a 3-1 lead to the Chicago Cubs ending a 100+ year drought, Hillary Clinton blowing an election to Donald Trump and then, finally (and technically in 2017), the Falcons blowing a 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl.
It was definitely the year we all collectively jumped into a different timeline.
I have it on good authority that the Spurs not winning a championship that year set us on a globally disastrous path.
if “good times make weak men” were a year
2016 was the year of Doc Rivers
Maybe one of the most, if not the most iconic year of the NBA
I think by sheer popularity its probably a year in the late 80s/early 90s with the trio of Bird, Magic, and MJ but of the last 20 years its 2016 and nothing comes close
I scrolled through the thread and honestly… this is funny as hell.

Opening the thread and seeing I had upvoted it and a bunch of comments made me feel way too old man

Holy shit people were destroying Draymond for this performance
37 mins 6 pts (1-7 FG) 6 TO (to 2 asts) -30 diabolical work
It’s easily the worst game of his career, at least in his prime. He played so fucking timid because (I assume) he knew he was lucky to not to be suspended for the Adams nut kick. So in a way he decided he’d quietly suspend himself anyways
I forgot about the Steven Adams / Draymond play…and there’s still a chunk of Warriors fans that think the league just suspended him bc he touched LeBron, they had already given him a pass once lol
They suspended him because he accumulated 4 flagrant fouls points… and to extend the finals if we’re being real. I doubt they upgrade the LeBron incident to a flagrant if the series was 2-2. 3 of the 4 flagrant foul points actually were upgraded retroactively. Only 1 was called on the floor which was the Adams kick, which 100% deserved to be upgraded to a flagrant 2 after only being called a flagrant 1 in the game
For sure, I’m just saying people expected the Adams one to be upgraded to a flagrant 2 plus a game. He kind of got a pass on it just being upgraded to a flagrant 2. And then yeah he got bit by the points in the Finals. The Finals suspension was 100% valid, I don’t understand how the league could keep letting Draymond hit dudes in the balls and not have him sit a game out.
Also, yeah Draymond liked to point out most of the points were retroactively assigned…but they all were justified, the Beasley tackle/throwdown, the Adams kick, the LeBron backhand to the groin….theres not much to complain about but I get it if you’re a Warriors fan.
its crazy he was such a nonfactor on the road against okc and cavs and they got blown out in 4 of these 6 games
G3 @ okc: 6 pts on 1⁄9 FG, L
G4 @ okc: 6 pts on 1⁄7 FG, L
G6 @ okc : 12 pts on 4⁄10 FG (not bad), W
G3 @ cavs: 6 pts on 2⁄8 FG, L
G4 @ cavs: 9 pts on 2⁄9 FG, W
G6 @ cavs: 8 pts on 3⁄7 FG, L
Total: 13⁄40 FG, 2⁄19 on 3s
Earlier in the playoffs in Portland he dropped 37 on 8⁄12 3s but portland was trash on defense obviously.
Also lowkey gsw got screwed by the 2-3-2 change that began in 2014 because if this series was 2-3-2, dray would’ve got suspended for the road G5 but gsw would’ve gotten 2 more home games with dray, instead of just 1.
Not everything shows up on the boxscore. Ask Steven Adams
And a couple weeks later he would drop a 32/15/9/2 steals gem of a performance on 11⁄15 and 6⁄8 from 3 in Game 7 of the Finals, while Steph and Klay couldn’t rise to the moment.
What an odd career this man has had
For a couple weeks in spring 2016, the Oklahoma City Thunder were about as good as any basketball team I’ve ever seen. Their defense was out of this world and their stars looked unstoppable.
It’s so hard to be that locked in for a long period of time—I was surprised the Knicks managed it—but while they were, that 2016 Thunder team was magic.
Do Cavs come back next.
“[LeBron] aged backwards these last 3 games.”
And the next decade after that.
I can’t believe that was 10 years ago. It feels like… 3-4 at the most

Can’t see anything bro
Imagine going back the night of this thread and telling yourself that in a decade, the Thunder will have won a single championship, but neither Russ or KD were on the team. The timeline we are in is fucking wild.
Damn this is sad.
They loved that OKC team man. If they had closed it out vs GSW and beaten the Cavs, it would have been the most beloved championship team ever 💔
whoever bet on thunder be rich right now
My best friend and I went to game 5 and game 7 of these series and it was probably the best stretch of time in my life.
Then shortly after all warriors fans got Dray nut kicked 😭
I didn’t know there was reddit in 2016, pioneers!
The stuff posted before 2016 was hilarious then mods started power trippin edit: anyone remember the dude who got trapped in his gfs closet while the dad was losing his mind and started doing a ama 🐐
Got a link? That sounds anazing
I wish i did it or took screen shots it was before i knew how to save threads or maybe you couldn’t back then. To this day might be the funniest 15-45 minutes ever on this sub.
Damn, I guess you had to be there.
It was there in 2011 as well for the Mavs winning that finals
I checked the thread and found I’d already upvoted most of the top comments … time flies
Oh my bosh, I remember posting in that thread I’m blushing here from embarrassment on behalf of those who still roam like I do today
Forgot Roberson went off like that lol
One of my fav series of all time. I was like 12 and it was the first crazy ass series I ever truly locked into. watching KD and Russ turn into absolute brick layers after this, combined with Klay turning into an absolute god, was fuckin awesome
Oh good, I was hoping to find some despair today.
Good reminder that LeBron and the Cavs didn’t beat some unstoppable warriors team the next round to make it seem like they won 3 titles off that championship alone
