37 y/o Kevin Durant entering his 19th active NBA season has played a combined 51,011 minutes. That is still less than 33 y/o LeBron James (54,347 minutes) before he joined the Lakers
I saw some discourse on twitter debating that KD entering year 19⁄20 is better than LeBron and his longevity is equally if not more impressive
Since I was curious, I compared their total minutes played to see the overall mileage rather than just their ages/seasons played.
It shocked me that LeBron the summer he signed with the Lakers had 3000 more minutes than KD has played up into this point. Which means KD should be compared closer to 2018 LeBron rather than 2022 or 2023 LeBron who at that point had several thousands of more minutes played, though the achilles injury obviously changes things
This isn’t meant to diss KD, whose own longevity especially considering his achilles tear is remarkable and legendary in itself.
But LeBron’s longevity is still several tiers above
