[Slater] LeBron James would’ve been more interested in teaming up with Stephen Curry elsewhere— away from Golden State.
This is like when Westbrook left Washington and told Beal to leave too lol
understandable
In hindsight, I don’t think Westbrook should’ve ever left Washington.
With the Wizards previous GM regime, Russ+Beal willing the Wizards to a first round exit was a match made in Heaven.
Westbrook didn’t leave, the Lakers traded for him
But he made it clear to the Wizards FO that he’d like to get to La if possible.
LeIfPossible
Yeah I don’t think he should’ve left either😭
Well that current roster looks really good but every roster is stacked this year
starting our tank the year after wemby in exchange of Porzingis hoops was something else
CHARLOTTE NEXT YEAR BAYBEEEE
LeBron and Curry can bring Charlotte their first Christmas game
First chip Christmas game
Hey man I’ll take it I guess
Hey Charlotte won the Summer League last year. When am I getting my damn T-shirt?!
They only had them available at the team shop in Charlotte :(
Had me in the first half ngl
Damn you had me in the first half.
Nah bron and melo in chicago like they always promised only this time with curry too
Yup, Seth curry
Seth plus Bronny and Lamelo? Im tired of all these super teams.
Aye Seth turned himself into a legit playoff starter no slander allowed
I’d rather have Dell
Dell Curry
I’d rather have chicken.
yk its really not impossible. If Curry went all out i think he could bring some guys there with him
Would be great for me since im in driving distance of charlotte now
Plus the roads around charlotte are safe now.
Everyone is driving distance from Charlotte. It is what makes it great.
Yup. Can always make it to Panthers games but, would never ever live in the city. You couldn’t pay me.
I legitimately can’t see Curry ever wearing another jersey. GS would move heaven and earth to prevent that from happening. Obviously his choice, but I’ve never had any indication that he was interested in leaving, either…
Clearly they wouldn’t move heaven and earth since they’ve done jack shit this offseason
When you have a chance to run back a play in team, you just have to take it.
He should have put more pressure on them a couple years ago, now he’s stuck with this old ass team that isn’t going anywhere.
They won a couple years ago thats the problem.
It’s been 4 years brother that’s a lifetime in basketball
Yup. 4 years ago the 5 worst teams record wise were the Magic, Rockets, Thunder, Pacers and Pistons. Now all of them are at the least solid teams in terms of making the playoffs. In 2016, the Cavs and Warriors were the finals, in 2020 they were both top 5 lottery teams. A lot changes in basketball in 4 years.
In 2026, the Hornets lost by double digits in the play in.
In 2022, the Hornets lost by double digits in the play in.
I feel you man
Hornets: Consistency is key
4 years ago Steph was making 39% of the cap and things were all cool. Then they decided to invent the second apron and the Warriors, unsurprisingly, got worse.
Yes, and all the other teams have to abide by the same rules unless more people decide to do stupid financially LeBron things and opt into significantly smaller contracts than they could gather.
The 3rd best players on the teams are about to have a shitty off-season.
That’s still a more recent chip than most other franchises.
People will dispute this, but them somehow finding a way to win in 2022 certainly took a LOT of pressure off Lacob and the FO. It’s building back up a bit now…but can you imagine the pressure if Steph never got another ring after KD left?
That’s not a couple of years tho. Would have been 4-5 seasons ago, which is the average career lifespan of an NBA career.
I swear I’ve read multiple articles about how he’s putting pressure on the FO to be competitive now, must not be all that convincing
Only if you believe everything you read.
The Bulls Creed
Maybe I’m just coping but I’ve seen multiple reports stating the warriors have made a ton of offers yet haven’t been able to land a deal for various reasons, including very legit reporters such as Marc Stein
Like can you blame them for not spending 4 1sts for jaylen brown??
>When you have a chance to run back a play in team, you just have to take it.
By God that’s Artūras Karnišovas music
heaven and earth are the nicknames for Kuminga and Wiseman, so they did move them.
I just don’t know how pressed Curry is to leave. Going from Kerr to nearly any other system would be a huge change for him. Steph could obviously play in another system, but it’d be risky. Can’t imagine he’d love to move either, and he’s not starved for rings.
It also seems like LeBron wants to play the schematic opposite of Kerr ball: 5 shooters for spacing; lots of ISO instead rather than lots of passing; easy/short defensive transitions; and relatively little defensive switching.
Ironically, Kerr ball tends to punch above its weight against that type of ball. The more playoff teams playing “analytically ideal” 5-out, the more advantage there is to Kerr’s scheme. A (magically healthy) Warriors team could get hot and be dangerous.
They would not be that dangerous. Dangerous like they could squeak into the playoffs and take a team to 6? Ok.
They just signed a former DPOY with good playmaking and screen setting abilities, stop downplaying, smh
You’re not a fan of Draymond making 27 million this year?????
If Steph Curry didn’t want Draymond making 27 million this year, Draymond wouldn’t be making 27 million this year.
they resigned draymond green fuck you
I think the real reason lebron didnt go to golden state is because it isnt his team. It’s steph and dray and kerr. Lebron would just be on their ride. He doesn’t do that. He makes the ride his ride and always has.
He went to a The Heat where Wade had already won a title
I really don’t think he is. He’s never said anything indicating he wants to leave and I believe he’s said things in the past indicating he wants to be a Warrior for life and maybe even said that directly.
There are reports that he and the front office are going to work on a contract extension this summer and if that ends up happening it would presumably be until he retires or pretty close to it.
Even if he left and played for Charlotte (the team he grew up around) or even another contender, it wouldn’t tarnish his image.
Can’t blame him for frustration with the organization drafting badly and fumbling the bag on brown which subsequently cost them getting LeBron for the lowlow
Yeah it’s not crazy for him to leave. The organization has dropped the ball pretty hard for four years, and he’s still good enough to be maybe even the 1a on a championship team.
This isn’t like, creating rumors and drama like how people said Giannis didn’t actually want to leave/the media was pushing it. It’s just that Steph is very close to being washed, his team has no possibility of building a contender, and he’s already the team goat.
They take him for granted
Steph’s not leaving. For some reason a lot of NBA fans these days seem to almost be fantasizing about him leaving us, but there’s zero indication towards that.
And let’s be real: Steph’s won 4 chips. We’ve had a fantastic run no matter what happens from here. Things would be different if we didn’t win in 2022. There would be significantly more antsiness from Steph to get that post-KD chip and FMVP. But since we won, it took a lot of that pressure off.
Also, it seems that a lot of ppl didn’t actually watch the damn clip lol. So many comments about how this is about the Warriors’ competitiveness/team strength. It’s not about that – it’s about the history Lebron has with Golden State being his archival in his prime.
I can see him in a Spurs jersey
Montana and Rice wore other jerseys. Lincecum and Madbum wore another jersey.
I don’t think it would be that crazy.
If GSW wants to rebuild after the year, I can see Steph going to Charlotte to close out his career. But beyond that, I don’t really think he’s interested anywhere else. Honestly, he probably just retires.
He’s publicly said the only team he’d join is Charlotte. It’d be a long shot, but it’s not impossible he signs with the Hornets next summer!
Helps that Hornets have a pretty big need at PG, now that LaMelo is gone. Steph, Kon, Miller, Naz, and Moussa would be an electric lineup! He wouldn’t need to play a ton of minutes either, since Coby would still be around off the bench.
Hornets could either sign him into the non-taxpayer MLE (~\(16 Million) or do a sign-and-trade up to \)41 Million.
Yeah it would be weird but it’s not like TB12 really hurt his legacy as a patriot any by winning with the Bucs, steph could go for something similar if he was interested as it’s pretty clear this warrior team is not contending anymore. I think he will retire a warrior tho
He will. They always do except in really odd circumstances.
Inevitably every longtime franchise player hits exactly the wall the Warriors are at. The team has no hope of rebuilding around the aging star, so it’s time for the star to go elsewhere. Nothing wrong with it.
Alright we’ll trade broome for curry .
Hypothetically what would a realistic trade package look like, if any
I dont think we would be able to salary match without including Embiid or Maxey/Brown so realistically it would never happen
I could see a world where 6ers move Embiid, but if they do it would be for like Anthony Davis or something.
Could be brown if he is a problem I guess.
Why would warriors want Embiid in a potential rebuild? 3+ way trade is also an option but I couldn’t imagine its details to save my life
I agree we wouldn’t want Embiid, would hypothetically be about making cap work to do right by Curry. And then Embiid lands somewhere else to get us picks.
I just don’t think it makes sense for 6ers to move a big for another guard.
Embiid is untradable
It would have to be Maxey for Steph which Philly understandably wouldn’t do.
This would be a dream, Steph’s my favorite player.
We just traded him for the true GOAT, Cash Considerations
He just went for nothing lol
I think it has to do with LeBron not wanting to join “curry’s team”. Even though he’s LeBron he would never be #1 on golden state. If they teamed up somewhere else he could be
Yeah this is it. People proposing Lebron to the Dubs weren’t sufficiently considering the history.
Remember that the Steph Warriors were Lebron’s biggest rival in his prime, and arguably the team that prevented him from becoming the undisputed GOAT.
Lebron’s very conscious of his legacy and the narratives around his career, and I think he wanted to stay far away from the optics of joining “Steph’s team.”
Yeah, he’s not going down that road that KD did.
Even though the circumstances are different, he’d never hear the end of it.
Nah, the fans would have cheered for this unlike the KD signing.
Nah, that team just blows. They could have gotten JB for butler’s contract and a couple firsts and a swap
shams just said the price was 4 firsts at this years draft
that was the price at the trade deadline if the best they got was PG + 1 first round pick and a pick swap then it changed lot by the time the trade happened, sounds like Boston just really wanted PG and didn’t bother revisiting past interest
no he said today that the celtics approached the warriors at the draft asking for 4 firsts
our second option right now is PODZ. Third option is Gui Santos or Melton. We are ass, as currently constructed. With Moody and Jimmy seriously injured, outside of curry is dreadful.
Is he number one one Philly?
slater said it’s because of the history
I think it’s him not wanting to stay in the West. Besides the bubble he’s not really done all that much. LeBron and the Warriors would not be enough to contend with the Wolves, Spurs, and Thunder.
I know there’s levels to it, but he was willing to do it for the heat and dwade. I guess he was ringless back then so a little less choosy
Or the warriors team sucks LeBron joining doesn’t make them contenders, and why would a 41 one year old want such a big workload put on him every game. Instead of Philly where’s there’s talent all around and he can “coast”
Could have to do with GS being an awful team that LeBron would have to drag into the playoffs, Sixers at least managed it last year and won a round too
The anti KD
Philly isn’t his team, this makes no sense
He never had a rivarly with Philly in the playoffs
So its about the rivalry, not because “it was curry team”. Its about Cleveland, he couldnt do that to them. Even Shump and RJ said they wouldve hate it and pretty sure cavs fans wouldve hated it too, but understand if he decided to go there.
So yeah, it makes no sense.
Why is everyone thinking lebron is some egomaniac, he was perfectly fine and fit in being #2 to Luka until Luka got injured again, and he is perfectly fine being #2 or #3 in Philly even willing to play point guard. I truly don’t think lebron gives af about being number 1 anymore he cares about doing whatever it takes to compete
It sometimes seems like he doesn’t mind until a time where he does mind and he ends up leaving
Enough with this filler news crap
Have you checked what month it is
Yeah honestly I feel like its such a thing on sports social media that fans will be like “why the fuck are you posting this shit” when its like “we’re in the least eventful part of the offseason, what do you expect?”
Buckle up.
We’re in the dregs of the off-season.
You are browsing the NBA subreddit in the middle of the summer. What exactly are you looking for?
First time?
This is not new, we don’t have anything else to be talking about, tbh.
Yeah, what’s going on? I haven’t seen a Post Game Thread Box Score to comment on in months!
It’s Slater.
He checks out
So if this is true he basically wanted to play with him but didn’t want anyone to be able to say he went to Steph’s team to get a ring.
Seems clear that he wanted no part of the western conference
Think it’s moreso that GSW is Bron’s biggest rival and indisputably a franchise that Curry “built”. Makes more sense to team-up in a more neutral situation.
The East is pretty much equal to the West atp
I think it’s that plus he didn’t want to draw comparisons to KD. Not that he’d be going in to the same situation obviously.
To be honest I don’t get the East hype.
Knicks blew over the whole conference.
The rest are pretty much the same just Boston or sixers mayb change theirs stances but that’s almost all.
Knicks blew over the team that won the West too though
Both of the super heavy favorites are in the west - the east is deeper from 3-8 but the priority was obviously to avoid OKC and SA until the finals
I’m not even sure they’re much more deep 3-8 tbh
I think he didn’t want to spend a year with and playing with Draymond. Tbh. But he could never say that outloud.
Even so Curry and Lebron still needed pieces around them.
He would of got killed going to his biggest rival GS i actually believe this rumor
Yeah, Lebron is VERY conscious of his legacy. I think he wanted to stay far away from even getting close to the narratives that KD got for joining us. Especially considering that the Steph Warriors were the team that blocked Lebron from becoming the undisputed GOAT.
I know it’s a super different time now vs. 2016 (the Warriors are mediocre now, Lebron’s 42, the Finals battles were years ago, Steph’s old too, etc.) – but there will inevitably be some amount of chatter about Lebron joining “Steph’s team.”
And it would be unsurprising that Lebron wouldn’t want that.
If LeBron was conscious of his legacy he wouldn’t have ring chased on four different teams
He spent a decade battling GSW lol why would he join them
Curry is not that guy. I’m sure he wants a stronger team around him in GS, but he’s not going somewhere random to form a super team with LeBron and chase a ring.
Exactly. His legacy is secure and has truly built a home in the Bay with all of his kids born/raised there. Really can’t picture him uprooting his kids from Atherton or leaving his family in Atherton & moving to a new team. Charlotte at least makes some sense with Grandma & Grandpa living there already.
There’s truly just no reason to. It makes sense for LeBron to do this at the end of his career, he was never a one team guy. But for a one team guy why would he go chase his 5th ring when he’s already got 4 and an extremely secure legacy in the place he’s an absolute legend? It’d be like if Kobe or Duncan left their teams to ring chase while already having such a secured legacy.
I feel like Jordan’s legacy is a tiny bit tainted by those Wizards years. This checks out. Michael is still the goat!
Bro should’ve known Curry is a one and done team guy.
I legitimately couldn’t imagine seeing Curry in a different jersey.
I want to see him in that Spurs jersey getting 2 more rings
Lol but only Curry, no Draymond. That’s going to hurt Draymond’s feelings
Well no shit. Golden State has a bunch of geriatric cripples, and Curry on his last legs
Worst offseason of all time
The 1944 NBL offseason was worse
Probably one of the best
Curry is not a ring chaser
There’s no need to be a “ring chaser” when you spent half a decade easily having the most stacked team in the sport lol
Pretty much as soon as Curry became an All-NBA level player, GSW’s front office had already built an immaculate roster around him.
I think 2022 is the ring that made it so he had absolutely no reason to switch teams ever, that year he proved the doubters that he didn’t really need prime Draymond or Klay to win at the highest level
I think him recruiting KD is about as ring chasing as you can get.
Code for “brother, I was never going to Golden State”
It’s weird that LeBron, whose all about micromanaging that legacy, doesn’t understand the value of being strongly associated with one franchise.
Curry isn’t leaving Golden State to have an outside chance of getting to the finals in year 16.
Translation: LeBron can’t stand the idea of joining Steph Curry’s team.
Unless they got AD
Is it just me, I’m sick of hearing about the decisions and considerations LeBron may or may not have had. Media is just milking every single drop of the old news and all these talking heads acting like this is some huge secret.
Golden State was always a bad decision for Lebron
even with him, they’re not competing, everyone thinks its a weak move bc they were his biggest rivals, and he gets overshadowed by Curry like KD did in his final year or two
the only reasons to go to GS is bc he doesn’t have to move across the country and to play with Curry
makes sense that he’d be open to playing with Curry somewhere else
Maxey for Steph trade incoming if this team starts to lose Or unite back at Akron General Medical Center next year for the retirement tour
0% chance curry leaves for Cleveland or Philadelphia
I genuinely think this is just an ego thing. He doesn’t want to be the second biggest guy for a fan base. He knows he’d be overshadowed by Steph at Golden State
Lebron and Curry couldn’t be more opposite in this regard. Lebron just picks up and leaves when the wind doesn’t blow his way. Curry stays put and is faithful (sometimes to a fault) to the franchise that brought him success … so this is kind of bron asking curry to not be curry.
Literally why I said he would never come here.
DependS on if Steph is happy to play out his days in SF, if he’s ok having the feather in his cap of playing for 1 team his whole career - a big deal these days. If he wants another ring, the Dubs should trade him to the Spurs for Fox and a boatload of chips. Instant favorites to win the chip - and Steph and Wemby would be fun as hell.
Source: …I-I just think so OK?!
You can always trust LeBron to make the b**** ass move
*away from Draymond
LeGM: Curry for Embiid
[deleted]
Steph could score 45 a game and they’re still not going to be very good.
In other words, he knew that if he went there he would be looked at the same as Kevin Durant when he went there
Makes senses. It’s one of those things where even if you win not really. The fans are never going to love you like that and the haters will never give you credit.
Cool.
hahahahahahaha
That would have made perfect sense. LeBron is now chasing another ring to end his career with a solid team.
Steph will probably stick around in the Bay chasing mediocrity because his team is washed up and the front office hasn’t been able to fix that. What a sad way to go out but I get that it protects his legacy.
Thats just selfish of Lebron if true!
I dont believe these two are as friendly as they appear to be in public.
Damn just play the game lol
LeBron wants to simply have control .. and his ego couldn’t fit under Steph’s in Steph’s house.
LeEgo
This explains Draymond’s recent comments
I hope the sixers lose 82 straight
Steph Curry to PHI??
Damn trouble at home?
“Steph, I can’t be with you as long as you’re still married to that organization. Leave them and your family so we could finally be happy together.”
Coulda woulda shoulda
because they have no depth
the game is now about depth more than it is top end talent for the most part. The Knicks are kind of an anomaly because their starting 5-7 plays so many minutes every game. You need depth when you’re older and you need depth to win
If winning was the priority then Miami and GSW was never on the table
their depth isn’t that bad if yaxel is instant impact
Ego or Steph and Draymond complaining about ownership BTS?
Quite obvious
Cause they gave Jimmy Butler a max extension and he’s washed af
It’s gotta be so easy to just make stuff up all the time.
And so it begins….
If I was the warriors and got the ok from Steph, id be offering him for Maxey and a pick or Maxey and Philon, if they like him as a prospect.
No way Sixers do that.
Oh I agree but if I was the warriors id try lol
Is this man trying to get AWAY from his family?
Unlike LeBron. Steph loyal. With just as many rings!;)
Jfc I cannot wait for this man to retire
He’s the Taylor swift of basketball.
Hopefully his innate corniness prevents him from being a pundit and they just wheel him out for various ceremonies and whatnot
Guess they really only had that One Night in Paris.
LeBron wanted Curry to leave to protect his own legacy. He didn’t want to look like a ringchaser like KD (even though GSW is trash right now, LeBron joining his greatest rivals to try and win a ring would be too much, narrative-wise)
I can’t believe he’d want Steph to leave his home just so LeBron doesn’t look like a bandwagonner lol
Two weeks ago everyone was openly admitting they had no idea what Lebron was going to do and now somehow they have reports like this that are either complete BS or after the fact BS from Lebron’s camp.
I was more interested in hooking up with my affair partner at the hotel so I feel LeBron on this one. (Just kidding never been married)
they are his biggest career rival, so of course he’s not going there
Sactown.
That explains the phone call to the Knicks. /s
Ehhh - Windy
The warriors are butt likenyea playing with Steph would be great but this ain’t even a top 15 roster in the league
I mean, we all saw how Durant was received when he went to Curry’s team
News Flash, Steph Curry coming to a NY city rooftop and Philly arena soon!..
